RB Armando Allen - Free Agent
|5-8, 199||Born: 4-30-1989||College: Notre Dame||Drafted: ---|
2012 Week 2 vs GB (1 / -3 / 0 rush, 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec)
With Lorenzo Booker on injured reserve, the Bears signed Armando Allen to replace him as the 3rd down, change of pace back. Allen had a solid pre-season for the Bears, and narrowly missed the initial 53 man roster. In this game, Allen only touched the ball once. It was half way through the third quarter, and he Cutler handed him the ball, BJ. Raji tackled Allen almost immediately for a three yard loss.
2012 Week 3 vs STL (1 / 2 / 0 rush, 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec)
Allen came in just a few times in the second quarter. At first he came in on 3rd and 8, and lined up in the backfield but Cutler threw a quick screen to Marshall for a 12 yard gain and a 1st down. Allen had the final carry of the half - a 2 yard run up the gut. Although Kahlil Bell was completely ineffective running the ball, Allen remained on the sideline for the second half. He is change of pace / specialist that the Bears will only use for a few touches in a game.
2012 Week 5 vs JAX (5 / 59 / 1 rush, 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec)
Allen came in during garbage time late in the 4th quarter, but showed good speed change of direction on the five straight carries that he had. The Jacksonville defense was gassed and Allen had solid gains on each of his carries, before breaking a few tackles and running for a big 46 yard gain for the TD. He's still the 3rd back on the roster, and only saw time because the game was over.
2012 Week 12 vs MIN (1 / 2 / 0 rush, 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec)
Armando Allen came into the game for part of the 4th quarter because Matt Forte was out with an ankle injury and Michael Bush needed a breather. Allen ran off tackle, tried to bounce it outside and was stuffed for a short gain of just two yards. It was his only carry of the day.
2012 Week 14 vs MIN (1 / 3 / 0 rush, 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec)
Armando Allen came in for one series near the end of the third quarter. He had a three yard carry up the gut on 2nd and 5. On third and two, instead of running up the gut, the Bears lined up in Shotgun formation and Cutler threw his second interception and it was returned for a touchdown to put the game out of reach.
2012 Week 15 vs GB (2 / 5 / 0 rush, 1 / 1 / 15 / 0 rec)
In the mix early, Allen made a gorgeous catch and run at the end of the first. The Bears were stuck at second and twenty and looking a little desperate. On the play, Cutler was under the usual massive pressure by BJ Raji, Clay Matthews and Eric Walden. However, this looked like it might be by design and set to collapse and suck the Packers too far into the backfield. This allowed Cutler to step up and deliver a short pass to Allen, who was moving out to Cutler's right and already had two blockers clearing a path for him. Allen then eluded several tacklers and went for a big gain. He didn't see much more work but with Michael Bush still clearly hurt, he will see the occasional play to spell Forte.
2012 Week 16 vs ARI (5 / 24 / 0 rush, 2 / 1 / 1 / 0 rec)
Allen had a nice run in the third quarter for 17 yards, but other than that was stuffed at or just beyond the line of scrimmage too often. If Forte is down for Week 17. Allen will probably spit some carries with Bell but he is clearly a very limited player in this offense.
