Summary
After starting his rookie season as the #3 running back for the Packers, Jamaal Williams was forced to step up after injuries to both Ty Montgomery and Aaron Jones. Williams ended up leading the Packers in rushing yards (556), rushing touchdowns (4, tied with Aaron Jones) as well as total touchdowns (6), receptions (25) and receiving yards (262) among Green Bay running backs. In week's 12-14, Williams averaged 26.8 fantasy points per game, scoring five touchdowns while accumulating 70 total touches. His ability to handle a big workload gave him an edge over Jones and Montgomery, but the downside was he averaged only 3.6 yards per carry. Williams is a one cut, decisive north/south style runner who constantly keeping his legs moving, but he doesn't break many tackles and is not particularly strong at the point of impact. He won't have many negative runs, but he also isn't going to break off many big plays in the running game, evidenced by the fact that he had only six rushes of 10+ yards on 153 carries. Although he doesn't have many lateral moves in his arsenal, he is able to make plays in space and did a great job of picking up extra yards in the passing game as he averaged 10.5 yards per catch. Williams will face stiff competition from Montgomery and Jones, but has a leg up going into training camp because of his versatility. Of the three running backs, he is the most capable of playing all three downs and in the red zone. If he can grab the starting job, Williams has the upside to be a high end #2 running back.
