Summary

Aaron Rodgers finished as the QB-7 last season, a ranking that is his floor as a 36 year old quarterback. His 25 touchdown passes was a career low for a 16 game season, but Rodgers only threw two interceptions and broke the NFL record for consecutive passes without an interception, previously held by Tom Brady. While it was not what many hoped for when they drafted him, he averaged 22.6 points per game with three of his top five targets having never caught a pass from him previously. He scored 20+ points in 10 of his 16 games and came through in the clutch with a 45 point performance in week 16. His completion percentage (62.3%) was the second lowest of his career as a starter and way down from his career high (68.3%), but that was to be expected with a group of young receivers. As we learned after the season, there was also quite a bit of turmoil with head coach Mike McCarthy, which led to his firing and the hiring of Matt LaFleur. The biggest question heading into the season is what the hiring of LaFleur means for Rodgers. The good news is LaFleur is an offensive coach, having stints as a quarterback and receivers' coach, offensive quality control coach and offensive coordinator. He was groomed under Dan Quinn, Sean McVay and Kyle Shanahan and was the quarterbacks coach the year Matt Ryan won the MVP, as well as the offensive coordinator the Rams in 2017. Rodgers is still playing at an MVP level, and with an innovative young coach, he should be one of the first five quarterbacks off the board. As he proved in 2018, Rodgers has a stable floor while still possessing the ceiling to be the highest scorer at his position. (May 3)
