Hooper is out for Week 7 with an illness and could also miss Week 8

Hooper's acquisition in free agency was among the most high-profile moves involving an offensive skill position player this offseason. Only the DeAndre Hopkins and Stefon Diggs trades rank higher in teams of "importance" according to our Footballguys Player Movement Tracker. And with the team expressing frustration with David Njoku last season, Hooper should dominate tight end snaps and be an every-down player. Hooper could flirt with the top five tight ends in the league in most receiving categories this season. (July 30)

Browns | Harrison Bryant fills in admirably (Sun Oct 25, 06:57 PM) - Cleveland Browns TE Harrison Bryant ended up with four receptions for 56 yards and two touchdowns on five targets in Week 7 against the Cincinnati Bengals, stepping up for the missing TE Austin Hooper (appendectomy).

Our View: Bryant should be considered a potential streamer next week against the Raiders even though David Njoku also caught a score today. He's clearly ahead of Njoku in the passing game pecking order.

Browns | Austin Hooper unlikely to return before bye week (Sun Oct 25, 09:47 AM) - Cleveland Browns TE Austin Hooper (appendix) is not expected to return to action until after the team's Week 9 bye. He was already declared out for Week 7's game versus the Cincinnati Bengals and also appears likely to miss Week 8's contest versus the Las Vegas Raiders.

Our View: Harrison Bryant will get the start today and the rookie is probably a better play than David Njoku

Browns | Cleveland's injury report for Week 7 (Fri Oct 23, 02:55 PM) - Cleveland Browns LB Jacob Phillips (knee) and OG Wyatt Teller (calf) did not practice all week and have been ruled out for Week 7 against the Cincinnati Bengals. TE Austin Hooper (appendix) did not practice Friday, Oct. 23, and has also been ruled out. S Karl Joseph (hamstring) was upgraded to a full practice Friday and is listed as questionable. P Jamie Gillan (groin), WR Jarvis Landry (hip, ribs) and C JC Tretter (knee) were limited in practice all week but have been removed from the injury report. LB Tae Davis (elbow), S Ronnie Harrison (concussion), RB Kareem Hunt (ribs), QB Baker Mayfield (chest), TE David Njoku (shoulder), DT Sheldon Richardson (Achilles), S Andrew Sendejo (shin) and LB Sione Takitaki (hand) practiced in full Friday and also no longer appear on the injury report.

Browns | Austin Hooper out with appendectomy (Fri Oct 23, 12:51 PM) - Cleveland Browns TE Austin Hooper (appendix) is undergoing an appendectomy Friday, Oct. 23, and will miss the team's Week 7 game against the Cincinnati Bengals, head coach Kevin Stefanski announced.

Our View: Harrison Bryant and David Njoku will split the passing game work with Hooper out, and Njoku will get a chance to show what he can do for teams that might be interested in the trade market. Both are just desperation plays.
