Brees left the Week 2 game with a thumb injury. He's having surgery and could miss six or more weeks.

Summary

Brees finished as a low QB1 last year, although his numbers rebounded a bit from his 2017 low point. He was still a severe feast/famine fantasy quarterback whose reputation is probably a bit ahead of his reality at this point. He did get an upgrade at tight end and has potential growth from some young wide receivers to harvest. He's not going to be a great value unless Latavius Murray goes down, but Brees has a lot of NFC South matchups in November, which often yield shootouts. There's more upside than downside here, but his floor games can be lethal for your week. (August 12)

Saints | Drew Brees looking at eight weeks (Wed Sep 18, 01:05 PM) - Updating previous reports, New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees (thumb) is expected to be back within eight weeks.

Our View: The general reports seem to indicate this will be a six-week absence for Brees. Head coach Sean Payton said the team will not place Brees on the Reserve/Injured list. Teddy Bridgewater gets the nod with Brees out and we should see more from gadget QB Taysom Hill too.

Saints | Drew Brees set to have surgery Wednesday (Tue Sep 17, 04:52 PM) - New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees (thumb) is scheduled to undergo surgery in Los Angeles with Dr. Steven Shinn to repair torn ligaments in his right thumb Wednesday, Sept. 18.

Our View: Brees has been quite durable throughout most of his pro career. Now, the Saints have to move forward without him. A timetable for Brees return won't be known until after the surgery is complete.

Saints | Drew Brees to meet with specialist (Mon Sep 16, 08:06 PM) - New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees (thumb) said he is scheduled to meet with a specialist Tuesday, Sept. 17, and will make a decision in the near future.

Our View: Brees is likely going to miss six weeks or so with this thumb injury. The Saints are moving forward with Teddy Bridgewater as their starter but we also may see an increase in package plays for Taysom Hill.

Saints | Drew Brees out six weeks (Mon Sep 16, 10:46 AM) - Updating previous reports, New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees (thumb) is expected to undergo thumb surgery as early as Monday, Sept. 16, and could miss six weeks.

Our View: The Saints now turn things over to Teddy Bridgewater as their starter. He's a smart and accurate quarterback, so Bridgewater will know to keep WR Michael Thomas and RB Alvin Kamara as involved as possible. However, Fantasy GMs should be downgrading their projections for these top weapons. Without Brees, we might see an increased role for gadget QB Taysom Hill too.
