A June 19 trade brought T.J. Yates to the Falcons, and led to Dominique Davis being waived. Yates had appeared in 13 games for the Texans over three previous seasons, with his biggest showing being 82/134 for 949 yards passing, one TD and three interceptions for Houston during six games in 2011. Yates appears to be locked in as the backup to Matt Ryan.

2013 Game Summaries

Week 5 - Yates came in during the fourth quarter after the 49ers took a 31-3 lead. Yates wasn't in a situation where he could impress really, but he also did nothing to really suggest that he could start next week in spite of Schaub's awful play.

Week 6 - Yates came in after Matt Schaub was injured in the third quarter. He initially checked the ball down, before he underthrew a pass that could have been a touchdown to DeAndre Hopkins. A few plays after that, he threw a pick six to Alec Ogletree as he telegraphed the pass by zoning in on Garrett Graham. Yates followed up one horrible interception with another as he threw the ball straight to Janoris Jenkins in the end zone on the next drive. Fittingly, Yates' day ended on a sack. He will likely take the place of Schaub if Schaub is injured, but he hasn't forced the starting spot from him by any means.
