Outlook
DeVonta Freeman was selected at 4.03 of the 2014 draft (Florida State). Head coach Mike Smith and GM Thomas Dimitroff believe that Freeman can be a feature back at this level - he is an accomplished pass-blocker which is a major hurdle for a lot of young running backs to overcome, and the pass-happy Falcons need a good pass-blocker at the running back position. Footballguy Matt Waldman expects Freeman to compete for touches on the football this season and potentially supplant Jacquizz Rodgers as the #2 in Atlanta for 2014, with the possibility of becoming the lead back if Steven Jackson again goes down to injury, or in the event that Jackson and Atlanta part ways after the 2014 season. Freeman is one of the potential fantasy stars on the horizon entering the 2014 season, but it may take a year or two before he gets his big chance at a headlining role in Atlanta.

Bills | Buffalo protects four for AFC Championship (Tue Jan 19, 06:27 PM) - Buffalo Bills RB Devonta Freeman, C Jonotthan Harrison, WR Kenny Stills and RB Antonio Williams were designated as protected practice squad players for the AFC Championship Tuesday, Jan. 19. Our View: They haven't needed Stills yet as Cole Beasley has been able to play through injury during the playoffs. However, the veteran receiver is a great player to have around if you need to go deeper at the position with one -- and maybe two -- games left for the Bills this postseason.link to story Bills | Devonta Freeman to Bills (Tue Jan 12, 10:10 AM) - Free-agent RB Devonta Freeman (Giants) was signed to the Buffalo Bills' practice squad Tuesday, Jan. 12. Our View: Freeman's playing days aren't done yet! The Giants released Freeman from Injured Reserve on January 7th, but the Bills pick him up for their playoff run. Buffalo was prompted to do that due to the postseason-ending ankle injury to Zack Moss. Freeman is a seasoned veteran who should have a spot behind starter Devin Singletary (although we don't expect him this week against the Ravens). T.J. Yeldon should get an increased role with Moss down.
link to story Giants | Devonta Freeman moving on from NY Giants (Thu Jan 7, 04:46 PM) - New York Giants RB Devonta Freeman (ankle, knee) was waived from the Reserve/Injured list Thursday, Jan. 7. Our View: Freeman could not stay healthy and did not impress during his time with the Giants. He's not the same player he used to be and is likely done playing in the NFL. Perhaps someone picks him up as a veteran reserve player in 2021, but it wouldn't surprise us if he's just headed for retirement.
