Outlook

Justin Forsett has proven in his career to be nothing more than a third down back. With Ray Rice and Bernard Pierce ahead of him on the depth chart both having the blocking and pass-catching skills to stay on the field on third downs, Forsett won't do much more than special teams.

2013 Game Summaries

Week 1 - Forsett came in on the Jaguars' second drive to catch a short screen pass on third and long. Forsett caught a second screen pass on the Jaguars' second drive, but this time he converted a third and seven with a strong finish to an eight yard reception. Gabbert went straight back to him as he caught a pass out of the backfield for a short gain. Forsett had a carry for seven yards to start the two minute drill at the end of the fourth quarter. Gabbert threw the ball to him on the next play to get the first down.

Week 2 - Forsett's first touch came in the third quarter on third and 29. It was a screen play underneath as the Jaguars just looked to make room for their punter.

Week 4 - Forsett touched the ball just three times in the game and his most impressive play came in the fourth quarter. It appears that the Jaguars want to focus on Jones-Drew as much as possible. The reasoning behind that is unclear.

Week 5 - Forsett was the third back into the game, but the second to receive a carry. He took a handoff from Blaine Gabbert up the middle for a two yard gain. That was Forsett's only involvement on offense.

Week 6 - Forsett was the third back into the game and his first carry came in the second quarter. On third and five, he took a pitch outside that never had a chance of turning into a good gain. Forsett got an opportunity to escape later in the second quarter. He caught an out route out of the backfield before evading a linebacker in space. Forsett fumbled at the end of the run, but fortunately it went out of bounds. When the Jaguars were hurrying up their offense late in the fourth quarter, Forsett came in and immediately caught a short pass out of the backfield. He caught another short pass before being tackled a few plays later.

Week 7 - When the Jaguars went to their hurry-up offense in the fourth quarter, Forsett came into the game. His first involvement was a nine yard reception out of the backfield on third and 10. He stretched for the first down, but couldn't reach. Forsett had his first carry on the next drive, as he ran well out of the end zone when the Chargers were expecting a pass. Forsett ran for another relatively big gain a few plays later, but again, all of his carries came when the Chargers were playing the pass.

Week 8 - On the first drive of the game, Forsett came in but was the third back to see the field. On third and long, Forsett caught a pass in the flat out of the backfield for a short gain. On another third down in the second quarter, Forsett caught a pass in the flat for a loss when he was met by Patrick Willis. Forsett caught a screen pass for four yards on second and 14 in the fourth quarter.

Week 12 - Forsett came into the game in the third quarter and immediately had a reception. On third and seven, he caught a pass out of the backfield for a first down.
