Free-agent WR Juwan Green (Falcons) signed a one-year contract with the Atlanta Falcons Thursday, May 6. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Green is back with the Falcons. He originally signed as an undrafted free agent out of Albany in 2020 and spent his rookie season on the team's practice squad. He'll compete for a spot on the 53-man roster this year.

Titans | Brady White to take part in minicamp    Thu May 6, 03:33 PM

Undrafted free-agent QB Brady White (Memphis) will participate in the Tennessee Titans rookie minicamp on a tryout basis, according to a source.

Footballguys view: White did not get an offer as an undrafted free agent, but he'll try to impress as a tryout player with the Titans. He started his college career at Arizona State and transferred to Memphis where he flourished. White filled the air with footballs in college and is not afraid to challenge a defense. We'll see if he can impress during his tryout.

Bills | Buffalo to take a look at Zach Smith    Thu May 6, 03:30 PM

Undrafted free-agent QB Zach Smith (Tulsa) will participate in the Buffalo Bills rookie minicamp on a tryout basis, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Smith is a camp arm for the Bills. They have Josh Allen as their starter and Mitchell Trubisky as his primary backup. Behind those two, the Bills have Jake Fromm and Davis Webb on the roster. Smith didn't post great numbers in college and is a long shot to get past this tryout.

Steelers | GM: Najee Harris a 3-down back    Thu May 6, 12:59 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Najee Harris was drafted to be a rookie year-ready three-down back, Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert said in an interview. 'Najee is a well-rounded running back (who) played in a pro system,' Colbert told Pro Football Talk. 'He made NFL runs routinely, and he could also play in the passing game, both as a receiver and as a blocker. He's basically a three-down back coming from an NFL-like system, plugging into a similar type system. He made NFL runs at the collegiate level. He did it at a high level. He helped them win a national championship, so hopefully he can help us win some games.'

Footballguys view: Harris has a skill set that all teams are looking for. He doesn't need to come off the field and can work effectively as a runner or receiver out of the backfield. Harris is not a big-play threat but he can grind down a defense as the game goes on. He's consistent with his effort in pass protection and should be the no.1 back for the Steelers from day one. With QB Ben Roethlisberger in (likely) his final season, the Steelers should lean on Harris as much as possible.

Panthers | Chuba Hubbard agrees on rookie deal    Thu May 6, 12:55 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard has agreed to terms on his four-year contract with the team, the Panthers announced Thursday, May. 6. The full terms of the deal were not available.

Footballguys view: Hubbard is an exciting rookie running back who will work to earn a spot as perhaps the primary backup to Christian McCaffrey in 2021. At Oklahoma State, Hubbard showed off a hard-charging style and can stick his foot in the ground to change direction in a hurry. He's not a pile-pusher, but Hubbard is not afraid to run between the tackles. Hubbard needs to work on ball security if he wants to earn the trust of the Panthers coaching staff. Monitor his progress in dynasty formats and consider him a handcuff to McCaffrey is he wins the no.2 job.

Lions | Kerryon Johnson still in Detroit    Thu May 6, 12:44 PM

To update, Detroit Lions RB Kerryon Johnson remains with the team despite a recent report that he will be released, Lions general manager Brad Holmes said Thursday, May 6. Holmes said the situation is a 'work in progress.'

Footballguys view: A "work in progress" sounds like he's about to be traded somewhere. With reports indicating he's been released, we can't imagine Johnson sticking with the team. They're moving forward with D'Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams as their duo on the backfield. Perhaps some team is interested in trading a late-round pick for Johnson...or perhaps he'll just get released anyway. Stay tuned.

Panthers | D.J. Moore to wait for deal    Thu May 6, 12:19 PM

Carolina Panthers WR D.J. Moore had his fifth-year contract option picked up in April, but a long-term deal with the team isn't expected this offseason, according to Alaina Getzenberg of the Charlotte Observer.

Footballguys view: Moore is scheduled to make around $11 million this year. He's gone back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons and is looking to make it three in a row this season. Moore should be a favorite target of QB Sam Darnold and is a WR2 with upside for Fantasy GMs in 2021.

Buccaneers | Jaelon Darden tough to tackle    Wed May 5, 10:41 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Jaelon Darden led the country with 23 broken tackles after the catch for North Texas in 2020.

Footballguys view: Darden is a run-after-the-catch guy with speed to burn a nose for the end zone (31 touchdowns over last two seasons). The rookie from North Texas is an exciting player to watch in dynasty formats and could be a solid pro. We like his ability quickness, footwork and agility - which all make him tough to tackle.

Lions | Kerryon Johnson done in Detroit    Wed May 5, 07:53 PM

Detroit Lions RB Kerryon Johnson was waived Wednesday, May 5, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Things change pretty quickly around here. A second-round pick in the 2018 NFL draft, Johnson struggled to stay healthy and impress with the Lions. He fell to the no.3 back last year and now gets a chance at a fresh start. The Lions move forward with D'Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams as their top two backs.

Titans | Brian Hill joining Tennessee    Wed May 5, 07:14 PM

Free-agent RB Brian Hill (Falcons) signed with the Tennessee Titans Wednesday, May 5, according to his agents. Terms of the deal weren't disclosed.

Footballguys view: Hill has spent most of his career with the Falcons but now is going to Tennessee to provide veteran depth behind Derrick Henry. The all-purpose back from the University of Wyoming has flashed a bit here and there, but he's best used as a reserve or change-of-pace back you can use in space. It's a solid move for the Titans.

Buccaneers | Blaine Gabbert back in Tampa    Wed May 5, 06:30 PM

Free-agent QB Blaine Gabbert (Buccaneers) is re-signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on a one-year, $2.5 million contract, according to a source Wednesday, May 5.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. Now, we'll see if Gabbert can win the backup job in 2021. He should be able to but will have to compete with 2021 second-round pick Kyle Trask. The Bucs also have Ryan Griffin on their roster but he's likely pushed off the roster by the pick of Trask.

Free-agent WR Chris Finke reportedly agreed to terms on an undisclosed contract with the Kansas City Chiefs on Wednesday, May 5. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.

Footballguys view: Finke originally came into the league as an undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame last year, and he first signed with the 49ers. He's a gritty player who is tough over the middle as a slot receiver who earns his quarterback's trust. Finke also worked as the primary return man for the Fighting Irish which adds to his value with the Chiefs. He'll try to make the 53-man roster behind guys like Tyreek Hill, Mecole Hardman and Demarcus Robinson.

Lions | Darren Fells set to join Detroit    Wed May 5, 02:30 PM

Free-agent TE Darren Fells (Texans) reportedly agreed to terms on an undisclosed contract with the Detroit Lions on Wednesday, May 5.

Footballguys view: With Josh Hill retiring, the Lions needed to add more depth to the tight end room. Fells is a huge target and can be a presence in the red zone. His size also makes him a fine blocker when tasked with that duty. Fells should work in as the primary backup to starter T.J. Hockenson in 2021.

Patriots | Sony Michel's roster spot in danger?    Wed May 5, 01:06 PM

New England Patriots RB Sony Michel could potentially lose his roster spot to fourth-round rookie Rhamondre Stevenson because the latter is more likely to be a factor on special teams, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss.

Footballguys view: The Patriots have a jam-packed backfield with Damien Harris, James White and Michel already on the roster. Michel, a first-round pick in 2018, saw his numbers go down in 2020 as he only appeared in eight games. He's got to stay healthy and impress if he wants to secure his spot on the 53-man roster. It sounds outlandish to hear that his roster spot may be in jeopardy but things change quickly around here and anything can happen.

Cardinals | Rondale Moore hard to corral when healthy    Tue May 4, 11:29 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR Rondale Moore reported 37 missed forced tackles on receptions as a freshman at Purdue in 2018 - the only college season in which he played more than four games - according to Pro Football Focus. The 37 missed forced tackles were the most by a receiver from a Power Five conference since 2014.

Footballguys view: Moore is one of the most explosive players in this draft class at any position. He's a big play waiting to happen and reminds some in the scouting community of Tyler Lockett. Moore is tough to get a handle on and he doesn't tip off where he's going with his route. A running back after the catch, Moore wins with speed and ankle-breaking quickness.

Dolphins | Jaylen Waddle comfortable with Tua Tagovailoa    Tue May 4, 09:38 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa completed 74 percent of his passes, averaged 16.6 yards per completion and compiled a 137.9 passer rating when he targeted Jaylen Waddle at the University of Alabama, per Pro Football Focus.

Footballguys view: Waddle can get the most out of Tagovailoa. As a rookie in 2020, Tagovailoa flashed a bit but generally struggled a a passer. Rather than give up on him, the Dolphins know they need better weapons around him and that's why they added Waddle in the 2021 NFL draft. Waddle can fly down the field and takes the top off the defense. Expect his chemistry with Tagovailoa to pick up where they left off.
