Patriots | Benjamin Watson calls it a career    Mon Jan 6, 01:41 AM

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots TE Benjamin Watson announced his retirement Saturday, Jan. 4.

Footballguys view: Watson was a first-round pick for the Patriots coming out of Georgia back in 2004. During his 15-year career, Watson snared 547 passes for 6060 yards and 44 touchdowns. He was never really a star at the position but he was a solid player for years with three-down ability in stops with the Patriots, Saints, Browns and Ravens.

Patriots | Benjamin Watson back with NE    Mon Oct 14, 12:47 PM

Free-agent TE Benjamin Watson (Patriots) is expected to re-sign with the New England Patriots after the team released him last week. Per ESPN's Mike Reiss, the Patriots did not have a roster spot for him at that time, but injuries have altered the picture.

Footballguys view: Watson could get back with the team and might have a chance to be fantasy relevant as their starting tight end. We'll wait to see if that happens. If you play in a crazy deep league and have the bench space, watch for the Patriots to make this move.

Footballguys view: That's disappointing for Fantasy GMs looking for some help at the tight end position. We'll see if they activate him in the near future. For this week, the team continues to roll with Matt LaCosse and Ryan Izzo at the tight end position.

Patriots | Benjamin Watson has chance at incentives    Tue May 28, 02:26 AM

New England Patriots TE Benjamin Watson will still have a chance to earn extra money via incentives despite his four-game suspension for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing drugs. He will receive $250,000 if he participates in 35 percent of the team's offensive snaps, and another $400,000 if he makes it to 45 percent. He needs to play roughly 66 percent of the snaps in the 12 games he is eligible to earn full incentives.

Footballguys view: Watson is a seasoned veteran who retired then un-retired to return to the team that drafted him. He'll get to do everything with the team during the offseason, training camp and the preseason. Once the regular season begins, Watson will have to stay away for a month during his suspension. Austin Seferian-Jenkins and Matt LaCosse will compete to be the top tight end in camp.

Patriots | Benjamin Watson headed back to New England    Thu May 9, 03:04 PM

Free-agent TE Benjamin Watson (Saints) reportedly agreed to terms with the New England Patriots - the team that made him a first-round pick in 2004 - one a one-year contract worth up to $3 million, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Footballguys view: Watson was retired for just a little bit but found going back to the Patriots too tempting. A 2004 first-round pick of the Patriots, Watson is not the player he used to be but he could still provide plenty of veteran experience behind Austin Seferian-Jenkins.

Patriots | Benjamin Watson visiting Patriots    Thu May 9, 08:03 AM

Free-agent TE Benjamin Watson (Saints) is visiting the New England Patriots Thursday, May 9.

Footballguys view: Just when you thought Watson was retired...he ends up getting lured back by the team that drafted him in the first round of the 2004 NFL draft. Watson is likely to serve as a backup behind Austin Seferian-Jenkins as the Patriots move forward without Rob Gronkowski (retired for good potentially) in 2019.

NFL | Benjamin Watson rethinking retirement plans?    Sat Apr 20, 07:38 PM

Free-agent TE Benjamin Watson (Saints) is considering a return in 2019, according to sources, after previously stating 2018 would be his last year. Watson, whose wife is due to deliver twins next week, could return for his 16th NFL season 'under the right situation.'

Footballguys view: The right situation is probably not with the Saints as they added Jared Cook this offseason. Perhaps a team like the Patriots would be willing to take a look at Watson (again). Watson was a first-round pick of the Patriots back in the 2004 NFL draft.

Free-agent TE Benjamin Watson (Ravens) agreed to a one-year deal with the New Orleans Saints Wednesday, March 28. Financial terms weren't disclosed.

Footballguys view: Watson spent two years (2016, 2017) with the Ravens, but before that he was making plays for QB Drew Brees in New Orleans. He goes back to The Big Easy likely as the lead tight end at 37 years old. Expect the Saints to move on from Coby Fleener real soon, leaving Watson and Josh Hill as the primary pass-catchers at the position.

Saints | Benjamin Watson visits Saints    Tue Mar 27, 04:42 PM

Free-agent TE Benjamin Watson (Ravens) visited the New Orleans Saints Tuesday, March 27, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Watson may have a bit more left in the tank than some people think. He caught 61 passes for 522 yards and four touchdowns in 2017 with the Ravens, and Watson could post similar numbers with a new team. The Seahawks need help at the position after losing both Jimmy Graham (Packers) and Luke Willson (Lions) in free agency.

Ravens | Week 17 game recap for Ravens    Sun Dec 31, 08:19 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco completed 25-of-47 pass attempts for 203 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in the Week 17 game against the Cincinnati Bengals. RB Alex Collins ran 20 times for 78 yards and a score while adding 18 yards on two receptions. RB Javorius Allen tacked on 37 rushing yards on five attempts. TE Benjamin Watson had a team-high 61 yards on seven grabs. WR Mike Wallace was targeted a game-high 13 times, finishing with five catches, 40 yards and a TD. WR Michael Campanaro was good for three receptions and 36 yards.

Footballguys view: A late defensive breakdown on 4th and 12 cost the Ravens a playoff spot. Collins established himself as the lead back in the second half of the year, but the passing game had to strive to be mediocre this year. The Ravens are in an unfamiliar place in the Flacco era, eliminated before the playoff begin.

Baltimore Ravens TE Benjamin Watson (knee) is active for the team's Week 8 game Thursday, Oct. 26, opposite the Miami Dolphins.

Updating a previous report, Baltimore Ravens TE Benjamin Watson (knee, calf) could very possibly miss his first action of the season in the team's Week 8 game Thursday, Oct. 26, against the Miami Dolphins.

Footballguys view: The Ravens have had more than their fair share of injuries at the TE position. The Ravens signed TE Gavin Escobar on Monday due to Watson's injury woes.
