Colts | James Washington released    Mon Aug 28, 12:10 PM

Indianapolis Colts WR James Washington was released Monday, Aug. 28.

Footballguys view: It was less than two weeks ago that Washington joined the Colts. The veteran has been on a few teams in 2023, so finding a new home before the start of the regular season could prove to be difficult.

Saints | James Washington headed to the Big Easy    Mon May 15, 02:50 PM

Free-agent WR James Washington (Cowboys) agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the New Orleans Saints on Monday, May 15. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.

Footballguys view: Washington has flashed at times during his pro career, but this 2019 season (44 catches, 735 yards, three touchdowns) is far in the past. Last year with the Cowboys, Washington played in one game and was targeted once (the pass was not complete). The Saints have second-year WR Chris Olave as their top target, behind that guys like Washington will compete to establish a pecking order. He's looking for a spot as likely a WR4/WR5 for the Saints.

Saints | James Washington to visit    Sun May 14, 12:35 PM

Free-agent WR James Washington (Cowboys) is scheduled to meet with the New Orleans Saints Monday, May 15, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Washington has never played up to his full potential in a few stops around the league, but he's got talent as a downfield receiver. He's the type of veteran who can add depth and security to a team in need of that at the wide receiver position.

Giants | James Washington lands in New York    Wed Jan 11, 01:02 PM

Free-agent WR James Washington (Cowboys) was signed to the New York Giants' practice squad on Wednesday, Jan. 11. In addition, the Giants signed OL Solomon Kindley to a reserve/futures contract.

Footballguys view: Washington missed most of the 2022 season due to a foot injury suffered in the preseason. He appeared in two games for the Cowboys before being waived. Washington lands with the Giants, a team that could use talent at the position. We'll see how far the Giants can go in the postseason and if Washington is able to make it to the field in the playoffs.

Cowboys | James Washington released    Wed Jan 4, 10:17 AM

Dallas Cowboys WR James Washington was released Wednesday, Jan. 4.

Footballguys view: Washington worked his way back from a foot injury that forced him out of action for most of the 2022 season only to be essentially replaced by T.Y. Hilton. Only 26 years old, the former second-round pick (2018) will find a new team for next season where he can provide veteran depth.

Cowboys | James Washington to be activated    Sat Dec 10, 12:20 PM

Dallas Cowboys WR James Washington (foot) is set to be activated off injured reserve on Saturday, Dec. 10, and make his 2022 debut in Week 14 versus the Houston Texans, per source.

Footballguys view: Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said Washington would make his season debut on Sunday. This week, Washington is likely to be eased back into action. When at full strength, Washington will be the team's no.3 receiver behind CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup on the depth chart.

Cowboys | James Washington returning to practice    Wed Nov 30, 09:40 AM

Dallas Cowboys WR James Washington (foot) was designated to return Wednesday, Nov. 30.

Footballguys view: Washington's 21-day practice window has been opened. The veteran has been on Injured Reserve since late August. When healthy, Washington could work up the depth chart to be the Cowboys' no.3 receiver behind CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup.

Cowboys | James Washington not ready yet    Wed Nov 9, 03:12 PM

Dallas Cowboys WR James Washington (foot) is making good progress but will not participate in practice this week, according to head coach Mike McCarthy.

Footballguys view: Washington is the forgotten man in the Cowboys' wide receiver room. The team was looking at trade possibilities (Jerry Jeudy), and they still may be the frontrunner to sign free agent WR Odell Beckham Jr. Washington suffered a Jones fracture in early August and was placed on injured reserve to start this season, and when he returns he would be no.4 in the pecking order.

Cowboys | James Washington, Tyron Smith on IR    Wed Aug 31, 05:22 PM

Dallas Cowboys WR James Washington (foot) and OT Tyron Smith (hamstring) were placed on the Reserve/Injured list Wednesday, Aug. 31. The team also re-signed free-agent LS Jacob McQuaide and CB C.J. Goodwin. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Washington has a Jones fracture in his foot, and putting him on IR knocks him out for the first month of the regular season. He should be able to return shortly after the month of September, and Washington could work into the Cowboys' offense as the no.4 wideout behind CeeDee Lamb, Michael Gallup, and Jalen Tolbert when healthy.

Cowboys | James Washington to miss 6-10 weeks    Mon Aug 1, 07:38 PM

Dallas Cowboys WR James Washington (foot) is scheduled to undergo surgery on his fractured foot Tuesday, Aug. 2, and is expected to be sidelined for six to 10 weeks, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Jones fractures can take more time than initially thought. Either way, it's going to be some time before Washington can take the field for the Cowboys. With Michael Gallup uncertain for Week 1, the Cowboys are likely to start rookie Jalen Tolbert opposite of CeeDee Lamb.

Cowboys | James Washington injury update    Mon Aug 1, 04:17 PM

Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys WR James Washington (foot) was carted off the field Monday, Aug. 1, after suffering an injury the team fears is a Jones fracture on his right foot.

Footballguys view: A Jones fracture could be near season-ending for the veteran receiver. Expect the Cowboys to scour the free agent heap of receivers to look for talent. Perhaps signing someone like Will Fuller or T.Y. Hilton is in their future.

Cowboys | James Washington hurt Monday    Mon Aug 1, 03:01 PM

Dallas Cowboys WR James Washington (leg) suffered an apparent right leg injury during practice Monday, Aug. 1.

Footballguys view: All Fantasy GMs need to know the name Jalen Tolbert. The rookie from South Alabama is likely to begin the regular season as a starter opposite of CeeDee Lamb. Not only is Washington banged up, but Michael Gallup (knee) may not be ready for Week 1.

Cowboys | James Washington on the field    Wed Jul 27, 11:01 PM

Dallas Cowboys WR James Washington (foot) participated in team drills Wednesday, July 27, after missing OTAs and minicamp with a left foot injury.

Footballguys view: Washington, rookie third round pick Jalen Tolbert, and Noah Brown, who has been with the team since 2017, will compete to be the third receiver, which probably means opening day starter since Michael Gallup isn't a sure thing to be ready to start the season coming off of January 2 ACL surgery.

Cowboys | WR Washington Could 'Shine' in 2022    Fri Jun 3, 03:19 PM

Mike Kaye, from Pro Football Network, reports Dallas Cowboys WR James Washington could 'shine' in the team's offense this season.

Footballguys view: We could see Washington start opposite of CeeDee Lamb, but that depends on the health status of WR Michael Gallup as he comes back from the ACL injury he suffered in Week 17. He flashed during his time with the Steelers, but we're not going to say he will 'shine' with the Cowboys. Watch to see what Washington looks like in the preseason before considering him as a late-round stash for your fantasy team.

Cowboys | James Washington out of boot    Thu Jun 2, 08:10 PM

Dallas Cowboys WR James Washington (foot) was not wearing a walking boot on his foot during practice Thursday, June 2, but did not participate in any drills.

Footballguys view: Washington was in a boot during OTAs last week, but the injury was supposedly minor. We'll see what he can do in mandatory minicamp but most importantly in training camp later this summer.

Cowboys | WR Washington to be OK for Mandatory Minicamp    Sun May 29, 12:30 PM

Calvin Watkins, from the Dallas Morning News, reports Dallas Cowboys WR James Washington is in a walking boot right now but expects to be ready for mandatory minicamp in a couple of weeks.

Footballguys view: It was a bit of a surprise when Washington was seen at voluntary workouts wearing a walking boot. There's no injury designation during the offseason, so we are left to wonder what the ailment is. It must not be serious if Washington is going to be participating in mandatory minicamp here in two weeks.

Cowboys | James Washington on track for minicamp    Wed May 25, 03:52 PM

Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys WR James Washington (foot) will not indicate why he is wearing a walking boot but said he should participate in the mandatory minicamp in a few weeks.

Footballguys view: Washington doesn't need to say why he's wearing a boot as this is the offseason and there are no injury designations needed. With Michael Gallup coming back from a Week 17 ACL injury, Washington could have a larger-than-expected role to start the 2022 regular season.

Cowboys | James Washington in boot    Wed May 25, 03:16 PM

Dallas Cowboys WR James Washington (foot) did not participate in practice Wednesday, May 25, and was wearing a walking boot on his left foot.

Footballguys view: There's no word what the injury is, and there's no injury designation needed during the offseason. Washington signed a one-year deal this offseason with the Cowboys after flashing at times during his four years with the Steelers. With Michael Gallup coming back from a Week 17 ACL injury, Washington could have a larger-than-expected role to start the 2022 regular season.

Cowboys | James Washington could earn decent role    Mon Mar 21, 07:31 PM

Dallas Cowboys WR James Washington likely will have a chance to win the No. 3 receiver job for the Cowboys during training camp.

Footballguys view: Washington was kind of like Emmanuel Sanders when he was with the Steelers - you know the talent is there to do more but you don't see it come to fruition yet. The Cowboys have CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup as their top two receivers, but Washington is a perfect no.3 receiver who can stretch the field, has late hands and tracks the ball well over his shoulder. Perhaps he's nothing more than a 'what the heck' flex for Fantasy GMs, but consider us interested in watching how things turn out for Washington with his new team.

Cowboys | Dallas adding James Washington    Fri Mar 18, 07:06 PM

Free-agent WR James Washington (Steelers) agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Dallas Cowboys Friday, March 18. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Washington has more talent than his career numbers will indicate. He was buried on a talented group of receivers in Pittsburgh, but Washington has a chance to win the no.3 job with the Cowboys behind CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup. We'll see how quickly he meshes with QB Dak Prescott.

Steelers | No trade request for James Washington    Sat Aug 7, 06:23 PM

Contrary to a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers WR James Washington has not asked for a trade, according to sources.

Footballguys view: It's unclear why Adam Schefter reported that Washington asked for a trade, although it would reasonable for him to since he has played starter quality football but the Steelers still brought back Juju Smith-Schuster. Washington is trying to set himself up for a payday in free agency next year, but he might instead just be one of the best bargains in the class. He will have fantasy value this year if one of the Steelers top three receivers go down.

Footballguys view: Washington is fighting for snaps in an offense that will likely feature a lot of two tight ends and two wide receivers who are more dynamic with the ball in their hands than Washington, who excels at making downfield contested catches. He's on the fringe of draftable players in typical fantasy leagues.
