Bears | Mitchell Trubisky practices in full    Wed Nov 25, 05:49 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky (shoulder) practiced in full Wednesday, Nov. 25.

Footballguys view: The Bears have not yet determined a starting quarterback for Week 12. Trubisky fell out of favor weeks ago and Nick Foles took over. Foles didn't play well or win much so Trubisky is back in consideration.

Bears | HC uncertain about Mitchell Trubisky    Tue Nov 17, 01:36 AM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky (shoulder) remains sidelined due to a shoulder injury. Head coach Matt Nagy was asked about Trubisky after the Week 10 game, following an injury to QB Nick Foles. 'I don't know yet about Mitch. I think there's a possibility but I don't know that for sure,' he said Monday, Nov. 16. 'I think it's going to be day-by-day, I don't know if he know that. So we'll just keep any eye on that obviously with Nick's status. We'll have to see where that's at as we go.'

Footballguys view: The Bears have a Week 11 bye, so we'll see if Foles can get healthy or if Trubisky can get out there in Week 12. Reports indicated the injury to Foles isn't as serious as feared. Stay tuned.

Chicago Bears NT John Jenkins (ankle), TE Cole Kmet (groin), S Sherrick McManis (hand), RB David Montgomery (concussion), OL Sam Mustipher (knee), OL Jason Spriggs (knee) and QB Mitchell Trubisky (shoulder) did not practice for a second straight day Friday, Nov. 13. Cordarrelle Patterson and Ryan Nall are the backups, but Lamar Miller could also get called up from the practice squad. The Bears running game is still no place to look for fantasy overachievers no matter who starts.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky seeing specialist    Thu Nov 5, 11:49 AM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky (shoulder) is in Los Angeles to see Dr. Neal ElAttrache regarding a shoulder injury similar to the one that kept him out two games in 2018.

Footballguys view: Trubisky played one snap last week, ran the ball one time for three yards and was hurt. Just when some Bears fans were calling for the team to turn back to the first-round pick. Nick Foles continues comfortably as the starter for the Bears despite his 'meh' performances.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky officially named starter    Sun Sep 6, 04:04 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky has officially been named the team's starting quarterback by head coach Matt Nagy.

Footballguys view: It's officially official now...and for now. Trubisky is in a make-or-break year and the odds are stacked against him. If he struggles at any time, the team may not hesitate to go to Nick Foles and move on from the painful Trubisky era.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky likely to be starter    Fri Sep 4, 07:44 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky is expected to be named the team's starting quarterback, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Bears are giving Trubisky one more chance to prove himself. Starting at the beginning of the season does not mean he'll start the whole season. We could still see Nick Foles start a majority of the season if/when Trubisky struggles.

Bears | Matt Nagy to name starting QB next week    Mon Aug 31, 10:36 PM

Chicago Bears QBs Nick Foles and Mitchell Trubisky continue to battle for the starting quarterback job, and head coach Matt Nagy said Monday, Aug. 31 that he will announce his starter sometime next week, likely Monday, Sept. 6 or Wednesday, Sept. 8.

Footballguys view: We'll see if Trubisky can win the starting job. Foles is a seasoned veteran who should be performing better than Trubisky in a game setting. If Trubisky wins the starting job out of camp, do not be surprised if Foles ends up starting if/when Trubisky struggles.

Bears | Chicago will not name QB before opener    Sat Aug 29, 04:08 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky and Nick Foles have been competing for the starting quarterback job during training camp, and head coach Matt Nagy said he will not name the starting quarterback before the start of the regular season.

Footballguys view: Fantasy GMs aren't dialed in on this situation for good reason. Instead, we are all focused on WR Allen Robinson. He's such a good receiver that he can perform no matter who is tossing him the rock. Robinson has a current ADP of WR10 (3.08) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Bears | Chicago QB situation still murky    Sun Aug 23, 09:10 PM

Chicago Bears QBs Mitchell Trubisky and Nick Foles appear to be no closer to answering the question regarding the identity of the team's starting quarterback in Week 1 against the Detroit Lions.'It's not going to happen soon,' Matt Nagy said.

Footballguys view: Trubisky has looked better according to camp reports and his teammates like what he's showing on the practice field. However, Foles has been there and done that so his experience could just make him the better option in the long run. Do not be surprised if the Bears begin the season with one guy and then make a change somewhere along the way. It's a make-or-break year for Trubisky that is for sure.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky praised by teammate    Tue Aug 18, 04:33 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky drew compliments from teammate WR/RB Cordarrelle Patterson Tuesday, Aug. 18, for his demeanor at training camp. 'The way he's handling things. I feel he's been more of a leader,' Patterson said. 'Last year I didn't feel like he was that guy, but this year he's taking over. He wants everybody to know that he's that guy and we can come to him when we need something. He's doing a helluva job with it.'

Footballguys view: Trubisky is trying to prove he should stay the starter for the Bears in training camp. He's competing with veteran Nick Foles for that job and it should be his job to lose.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky believes he has improved    Fri Jul 31, 03:26 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky said he worked with a quarterbacks coach this offseason and worked on improving his footwork and mechanics.

Footballguys view: Trubisky needs to prove it on the field. While other first-round QBs from his class (Deshaun Watson, Patrick Mahomes) are superstars in this league, Trubisky is looking more and more like a bust. The Bears have brought in competition this offseason as veteran Nick Foles will push Trubisky for the starting job. If he's improved, Trubisky needs to show it in practice and win the job outright. Then, he needs to play better in games...oh yeah, and win.

Bears | Teammate expects Mitchell Trubisky to start    Wed Jun 24, 12:41 PM

Chicago Bears WR Ted Ginn Jr. said he expects QB Mitchell Trubisky to be the starting quarterback this season.

Footballguys view: That's a bold statement, especially considering Ginn was playing with the Saints last year. Trubisky is in a make-or-break year in 2020 and he'll have to beat out Nick Foles for the starting job in training camp. It's not an exciting competition for Bears fans or for Fantasy GMs.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky standing ground    Fri Jun 12, 02:01 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky said Friday, June 13, that he has been motivated by the team's offseason acquisition of QB Nick Foles. 'It was kind of interesting to be, but that's the business we live in,' Trubisky said in a Zoom media conference. 'I think I was kind of pissed off in a good way. I've been motivated ever since. ... I know we're going to push each other, but I still feel like this is my team.'

Footballguys view: Trubisky and Foles are in an open quarterback battle, but Foles should be favored and Foles winning would be better for the offense and passing game targets unless Trubisky improves greatly this offseason. Trubisky is saying the right things, but he'll have to show that he's grasping the offense better than he did last year to follow through on this newfound motivation.

Cardinals | Kyler Murray leaned heavily on short throws    Wed Jun 10, 10:52 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray led the league in percentage of passing attempts behind the line of scrimmage in 2019 at 21.4 percent (minimum 200 attempts). San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo (20.5), Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky (20 and Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers (20) were the other quarterbacks who finished over 20 percent last season.

Footballguys view: The Kliff Kingsbury offense is all about using short passes to march down the field. There will be deep shots as well, but quick passing and RPO action is the hallmark of what the Cardinals want to do on offense. Expect that to continue in 2020.

Bears | Preseason to determine QB1 in Chicago    Tue May 26, 03:11 PM

Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy said Tuesday, May 26, QBs Mitchell Trubisky and Nick Foles will both see time working with the starters in preseason games.

Footballguys view: Trubisky was supposed to be the franchise quarterback for the Bears but he has disappointed as a pro. Foles has experience and a championship history. He's worked under Nagy before when he was with the Chiefs, so Foles may not take that long to get up to speed. In fact, Foles may just end up winning the starting job. We'll see how this shakes out in training camp.

Bears | GM "believes" in Mitchell Trubisky     Fri May 8, 12:19 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky still has belief of general manager Ryan Pace even though the quarterback's fifth-year contract option wasn't exercised. 'We've always had the approach that we're honest and we're truthful with our players and our staff, and we move on and we get to work. ...' Pace said Thursday, May 7, in an interview on radio station WSCR. 'Mitch gets it. Everyone's competing. Everyone's focused on better results. That's the entire team. That starts with me and everybody. We believe in Mitch -- that doesn't change. ... I think you can point to [cornerback] Kyle Fuller as a great example of a player that didn't get his option exercised. I think we would say it worked out well for him and for us.'

Footballguys view: This is all lip service after the team chose not to pick up Trubisky's fifth year option. The big question now is what team will give him a shot in 2021 the way the Raiders did with Marcus Mariota's incentive-laden two-year contract this year.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky's option declined    Sat May 2, 05:06 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky will not have his fifth-year option picked up this offseason, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Zero surprise here. Trubisky has failed to impress as a starter for the Bears from his rookie season in 2017. The Bears traded for Nick Foles to compete with Trubisky for the starting job this year. Trubisky is now set to be an unrestricted free agent in 2021.

Bears | Mithcell Trubisky option not likely    Sat Apr 25, 02:14 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky is entering his fourth season, and while the team hasn't made an announcement on whether it plans to pick up his fifth-year contract option, league insiders believe Chicago will not. If the Bears pick up Trubiksky's option, the salary projects to top $24 million.

Footballguys view: The fifth-year option is guaranteed only for injury. The Bears could pick it up but if Trubisky gets hurt then they are on the hook for a big contract. Trubisky is going to have to compete with Nick Foles for the starting job in 2020.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky on track for camp    Fri Apr 3, 07:31 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky (shoulder) is on track in his rehab and should be ready for training camp, according to general manage Ryan Pace.

Bears | Chicago looking to create QB competition?    Thu Feb 27, 05:03 PM

The Chicago Bears are expected to add a veteran quarterback this offseason to push QB Mitchell Trubisky, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN Thursday, Feb. 27. Fowler adds the ideal candidate would have 'pedigree and extensive starter's experience.'

Footballguys view: Andy Dalton would fit here, but it's also possible a quarterback or two that we aren't expecting will become available after some of the free agents/trade targets find homes. Either way, Trubisky is in a do or die year with the Bears.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky still the starter    Tue Feb 25, 10:01 AM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky was reaffirmed the starter by general manager Ryan Pace Tuesday, Feb. 25.

Footballguys view: The Bears want Trubisky to take a step forward this season. In 2019, Trubisky had a disappointing season but there were flashes that showed what he could be -- brief flashes that he needs to build on. The Bears give him an endorsement now but Trubisky is clearly on the hot seat.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky has surgery    Wed Jan 29, 12:41 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky (shoulder) had surgery to repair a partially torn labrum in his left shoulder.

Footballguys view: The injury was to Trubisky's non-throwing shoulder, and the recovery time is expected to be two months. That means Trubisky should be limited in OTAs later this year. However, he should be good to go and full strength by the time training camp gets here.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky to remain starter    Tue Dec 31, 11:06 AM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky will remain the starting quarterback in 2020.

Footballguys view: Trubisky is playing well enough to earn the starting job going into 2020 with a lot of possible options on the market in the offseason to give the Bears second thoughts. Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky (hip) practiced in full Wednesday, Nov. 20, and is expected to start against the New York Giants Sunday, Nov. 24.

Footballguys view: Trubisky's hip injury is not seen as serious. However, his play has been below average so the Bears might have a short leash for their young quarterback after he was benched in Week 11.
