Saints | Hope for Michael Thomas?    Fri Sep 18, 08:19 AM

New Orleans Saints WR Michael Thomas (ankle) felt 'fantastic' at practice Thursday, Sept. 17, and there's a glimmer of hope that he can play in Monday, Sept. 21. It's unlikely, but the team was pleased and surprised at his progress.

Footballguys view: It looks like several weeks might have been too pessimistic and trading for Thomas was the right move after the bad news earlier this week. New Orleans Saints WR Michael Thomas (ankle) hasn't been ruled out for the team's Week 2 game, head coach Sean Payton said Thursday, Sept. 17, but declined to comment further about his status.

Footballguys view: The speculation is all over the place about Thomas. He could miss this game, he could miss a few weeks, he could miss several weeks...and there's a small chance he could play in Week 2. We think he'll miss some time as high-ankle sprains tend to linger. That means Emmanuel Sanders could be the Saints no.1 wideout while Thomas is down.

New Orleans Saints WR Michael Thomas has been targeted 118 times on slant routes over the course of his four-year career and caught 97 of them for 988 yards - good for a success rate of 85 percent.

Footballguys view: Michael Thomas is just ridiculously good...period. It doesn't matter the type of route he runs, Thomas is going to get open and come down with the ball. The Saints added free agent WR Emmanuel Sanders to the mix this offseason and that should only help Thomas see better coverage. Thomas is a WR1/no-brainer/must-start every week.
