Jaguars | Tim Tebow terms    Fri May 21, 12:00 PM

Updating previous reports, Jacksonville Jaguars TE Tim Tebow received a one-year, $920,000 deal with no guaranteed money and an injury split.

Footballguys view: As expected, Tebow is no sure thing to make the team, and perhaps even an underdog when you consider that he has been away from the game for eight years. He generates headlines in much greater abundance than relevant football stories, although if Tebow does make the team, he could gum up the works in the red zone offense in a Taysom Hill-esque role. He won't have fantasy value of his own, but Tebow could destroy the fantasy value of others.

Jaguars | Tim Tebow officially to Jags    Thu May 20, 09:51 AM

Free-agent TE Tim Tebow (Jets) signed an undisclosed deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars Thursday, May 20.

Footballguys view: Opinions about Tebow's chance to make the team are all over the map, but the Jaguars don't have much at tight end and Tebow can add value as a gadget quarterback and quasi-coach/tone setter for Urban Meyer, so don't be surprised if he suits up against the Texans Week 1.

Jaguars | Tim Tebow decision coming soon    Sat May 15, 07:30 PM

Free-agent TE Tim Tebow (Eagles) remains unsigned but Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer said Saturday, May 15, he imagines 'a decision is gonna be soon.'

Footballguys view: Let's just get this thing going already. Meyer loves what Tebow can bring to the team in terms of leadership and locker room presence, and Tebow wants to play football again...albeit at a different position. The former first-round quarterback shouldn't push for much playing time but could give Meyer some trusted depth at a thin position. Chris Manhertz and James O'Shaugnessy are the top two tight ends on the depth chart.

Jaguars | Jacksonville to add Tim Tebow    Mon May 10, 02:04 PM

Free-agent TE Tim Tebow (Eagles) plans to sign a one-year contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Footballguys view: Tebow is back in the NFL but Tebow-mania isn't what it used to be. He was a first-round pick (2010) of the Broncos when he was playing quarterback. Tebow led the Broncos to the playoffs in an improbably run in 2011 and won a Wild Card Game against the Steelers. When the Broncos secured Peyton Manning in 2012, Tebow was traded away to the Jets and was soon out of the league. He's back, and reunited with his college coach Urban Meyer, but this time he's playing tight end. Tebow will be a reserve tight end and gadget player for the Jaguars.

Jaguars | Tim Tebow an option at TE    Mon May 10, 10:07 AM

Former QB Tim Tebow is an option as a backup tight end for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Footballguys view: Tebow played for Urban Meyer during his college days at Florida. He could join the Jaguars to give them depth at the tight end position and he could even get some gadget plays near the end zone. We can't imagine much fantasy value coming from the move to add Tebow.

NFL | Tim Tebow aiming to return as TE    Thu Apr 29, 02:45 PM

Free agent/retired TE/QB Tim Tebow recently reached out to the Jacksonville Jaguars and head coach Urban Meyer, his former college coach, and requested a tryout as a tight end, per a source Thursday, April 29. The Jaguars are weighing the decision.

Footballguys view: It's a crazy day in the NFL, so Tebow wants to return now...why not? Tebow played under Urban Meyer in college and could bring fire and energy to the field as an H-back/tight end.

Eagles | Tim Tebow does not make team    Sat Sep 5, 12:26 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Tim Tebow was released Saturday, Sept. 5, according to a source.

Footballguys view: When Matt Barkley was traded to the Cardinals, many thought it was an indication that Tebow had made the team. Instead, he finds himself bounced from the NFL once again.

Eagles | Tim Tebow should make team    Thu Aug 20, 07:43 PM

Updating a previous report, Philadelphia Eagles QB Tim Tebow continues to impress head coach Chip Kelly, and Tebow is expected to earn a spot on the active roster if he doesn't make any glaring errors over the rest of the preseason, according to a team source. Kelly has been impressed with Tebow's running ability and his improvement throwing the football. Tebow can become a valuable weapon with the new two-point rule and in short-yardage situations. QB Matt Barkley is available for trade. Tebow was 6-for-12 for 69 yards in the team's first preseason game last weekend, and he had four carries for 15 yards and a touchdown.

Footballguys view: Chip Kelly is definitely running the show here and it's a good bet he has something in mind for Tebow. It likely spells doom for Matt Barkley who has been less than impressive. There's no point in fostering Tebow though as it will take multiple injuries to get him under center for more than gimmick plays. Yes, Sam Bradford is an injury risk but it's unlikey Tebow would hop over Mark Sanchez, who is more polished and played well in Kelly's system last season.

Eagles | Tebow to make the final roster?    Sun Jun 21, 08:43 PM

Eliot Shorr-Parks, from NJ.com, believes that quarterback Tim Tebow is going to make the 53-man roster for the Eagles. It's Tebow's experience as a starter, scrambling ability and lack of turnovers that would give him the edge over Matt Barkley according to the Eagles beat writer.

Footballguys view: We could see Tebow making the squad, and fantasy owners need to realize that he's not THAT far away from the starting job--mainly because Sam Bradford is such an injury risk. If Bradford is too banged up to play and Mark Sanchez struggles as the starter, then Tebow might actually get another shot at starting in the NFL. Yes, his passes will be ugly and you can time his throwing motion with a sun dial....but remember when he was starting for the Broncos he was a top-10 fantasy QB and an every week starter because of his scrambling ability. Stay tuned.

Eagles | Tim Tebow officially signs    Mon Apr 20, 03:51 PM

Free-agent QB Tim Tebow (Patriots) officially signed a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles Monday, April 20. Financial terms were undisclosed.

Footballguys view: It will be a bit surprising if Tebow actually makes the final roster. It will certainly give us a lot to talk about between now and then.

Eagles | Tim Tebow to sign with Philadelphia    Sun Apr 19, 07:39 PM

Free-agent QB Tim Tebow (Patriots) is expected to sign a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles Monday, April 20.

Footballguys view: Oh boy, here we go again. Tebow flamed out with the Denver Broncos and the New York Jets before getting a shot with the New England Patriots in 2013. He didn't make the team, and Tebow was out of football last year. Tebow has been working diligently to improve his throwing motion and footwork as a passer. Those close to him say that he looks better than ever when throwing the ball. We say that's aawesome, but Tebow needs to work in a system that is simple. Fortunately for him, Chip Kelly's offense in Philadelphia is not exactly complex. We'll be shocked if he makes the final roster, but it's going to be an interesting and wild ride with Tebow back in the league.

Eagles | No plans to sign Tim Tebow    Mon Mar 16, 05:46 PM

Free-agent QB Tim Tebow (Patriots) worked out with the Philadelphia Eagles Monday, March 16, but the Eagles have no imminent plans to sign him after his workout.

Footballguys view: We're kind of shocked Tebow got a workout since he's not invited to the NFL veteran combine on Sunday. Tebow would be an interesting fit in Chip Kelly's system. It's similar to the scheme he ran in college at Florida where he finished his Gators career as the most accurate quarterback in SEC history.

NFL | Tim Tebow still working out    Tue Jul 22, 12:39 PM

Free-agent QB Tim Tebow (Patriots) is still working out, hoping for another shot at signing with an NFL team. 'I feel great,' Tebow said. 'I feel the strongest, healthiest, throwing the best I ever have. I'm just really excited about the improvement.'

Footballguys view: Oh Timmy. We would be shocked if a team took a chance on Tebow--even as a camp arm. Adding him would be a distraction that most teams don't want. He's a fine runner, but his struggles with accuracy are unlikely to be fixed. Tebow's a great guy, but his playing days in the NFL are likely over.

NFL | Tim Tebow not ruling out return    Mon Jun 2, 03:46 PM

Free-agent QB Tim Tebow (Patriots) is not ruling out a return to the NFL even though he works for the SEC Network as an analyst. Tebow said he feels great and has been training every day.

Footballguys view: Tebow was a great story while it lasted, but he should just focus on his TV career. Even if he cleaned up his footwork, throwing motion and accuracy he's still not bright enough to quickly diagnose defenses quickly as a pro. Sandlot football doesn't work in the NFL, and teams may be hesitant to take a chance on him because of the media circus that follows him wherever he goes.

Jaguars | Fans urging team to sign Tim Tebow    Mon Sep 16, 01:25 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars fans are planning to hold a rally Monday, Sept. 16, to try to encourage the team to sign free-agent QB Tim Tebow (Patriots). The rally is scheduled to last three hours and 16 minutes. QB Chad Henne was 25-for-38 for 241 yards and a touchdown in the team's Week 2 loss to the Oakland Raiders.

Footballguys view: The Jaguars are unlikely to sign Tebow even though he's a hometown hero. The team is easily the worst in football and the fans need something to be excited about. Tebow is not the answer for the Jaguars.

Patriots | Tim Tebow cut    Sat Aug 31, 11:00 AM

The New England Patriots have released QB Tim Tebow.

Footballguys view: An we may have seen the last of Tim Tebow at the quarterback position. With the Patriots he was reunited with Josh McDaniels, the guy who selected him in the first-round of the 2010 NFL draft. If McDaniels is giving up on him then Tebow's days in the NFL are certainly numbered. With all the drama around Tebow we can't imagine a team falling all over themselves to add a developmental QB.

Patriots | Tim Tebow has two TDs in final preseason tilt    Fri Aug 30, 03:51 AM

New England Patriots QB Tim Tebow threw two touchdown passes and one interception in the final preseason game Thursday, Aug. 29, which the Patriots won 28-20 over the New York Giants. Tebow had a 52-yard touchdown pass and a 13-yard run. He was 6 for 11 for 91 yards. He also gained 30 yards on six carries.

Footballguys view: Tebow might have done enough to make the Patriots. He has tactical value on special package plays, and he'll also play special teams. This one will go down to the wire.

Patriots | Coach says Tim Tebow improving    Mon Aug 19, 02:06 PM

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said he has seen improvement from QB Tim Tebow even though Tebow went 1-for-7 for minus one yard in the team's second preseason game. 'You gotta think if you look at the entire week last week that it would look different than the game did. In some cases the game looked better for some reason, in some cases the game may not look as good as some things during the week. We'll just try to take all that into consideration,' Belichick said.

Footballguys view: Tebow only has one way to go and that's up. He's struggled mightily during his time with the Patriots and some feel he's in danger of making the final roster. Belichick and OC Josh McDaniels both like Tebow because of his versatility but his work as a passer has not improved (and has even declined) since his days with the Broncos.

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady (knee) has been cleared medically to play in the team's second preseason game and will start against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Friday, Aug. 16. All three Patriots quarterbacks are expected to play.

Footballguys view: That noise you hear is the sigh of relief coming from Patriots fans and Brady's fantasy owners. Just another reason why we shouldn't overreact on social networking when first hearing about (and seeing video of) these camp injuries.

Patriots | Ryan Mallett shaken up    Fri Aug 9, 08:58 PM

New England Patriots QB Ryan Mallett (undisclosed) was forced out of the preseason game in the second quarter against the Philadelphia Eagles Friday, Aug. 9, due to an undisclosed injury. He was hit in the chest by DL Damion Square, and appeared to have the wind knocked out of him. He was replaced in the two-minute drill by QB Tim Tebow.

Footballguys view: With the only other backup being Tim Tebow - who looked horrible Friday night - the Patriots have to hope that Mallett ends up OK. Mallett has had a strong camp so far, but struggled coming off the bench Friday night. Still, it's nothing compared to what Tebow looked like.

New England Patriots QB Tim Tebow is catching passes in an unorthodox drill that has him lining up with running backs and receivers with QB Ryan Mallett throwing to them. It's a non-contact tackling drill.

Footballguys view: The media can't get enough Tebow, but the chances of him even sticking as a tight end are extremely remote. We wouldn't pick him up unless your league awards points for headlines.

Patriots | Tim Tebow on roster bubble?    Wed Jul 10, 06:44 PM

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft has spoken highly of QB Tim Tebow's off-field attributes. Tebow's athleticism could play a role in their fast-paced scheme, so it's too early to write off his chances of making the roster. Still, Ryan Mallett is in a prime spot to lock down the backup gig to Tom Brady.

Footballguys view: Nobody on the planet is expecting Tebow to push Mallett for the backup job behind Brady. We doubt the team would release him after they picked him up earlier this year to sit and develop. However, with Tebow you just never know. Josh McDaniels was fired during Tebow's rookie year with the Broncos and never got much of a chance to work with his prized QB. We'll see if Tebow and McDaniels get more time together now in New England.

Patriots | Tim Tebow expected to work at QB only    Sun Jul 7, 11:03 AM

New England Patriots QB Tim Tebow is expected to work only as a quarterback during training camp and likely will not see any time at tight end.

Footballguys view: Many assume the Patriots are reeling at the TE position since they released Aaron Hernandez. That's simply not the case. They have a few guys at the position behind Rob Gronkowski that will compete for playing time. Daniel Fells, Jake Ballard, Michael Hoomanawanui, and Zach Sudfeld will all try to make an impression in training camp.

Patriots | Tim Tebow runs third-team offense    Tue Jun 11, 03:09 PM

New England Patriots QB Tim Tebow ran the third-team offense in practice Tuesday, June 11. Tebow completed 4-of-7 passes, and a couple were dropped by wide receivers, but he also held on to the ball too long and likely would have been sacked in a real game.

Footballguys view: Let the Tebow third-team reports commence! Tebow has a lot of work to do as a passer but most is mental. Sure, many will make a big deal out of his slow throwing motion and bad footwork. However, it's his mental processing speed that needs the most improvement. Tebow doesn't only need to trust what he sees, he needs to understand what he sees first and foremost. The Patriots have a project in Tebow and his roster spot is not guaranteed.

The New England Patriots will sign free-agent QB Tim Tebow (Jets) and expect him to report for the team's minicamp Tuesday, June 11.

Footballguys view: No real surprise here. Tebow will work as the team's QB3 behind Tom Brady and Ryan Mallett. Patriots OC Josh McDaniels was the Broncos head coach when the team selected Tebow in the first-round of the 2010 NFL draft. Bill Belichick has long been a fan of Urban Meyer Florida Gators and there's no doubt he'll find a way to use Tebow.

Patriots | Bill Belichick comments on feelings about Tim Tebow    Thu Jun 6, 04:01 PM

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick denied a report that stated he hated free-agent QB Tim Tebow (Jets) as a football player. 'Every single player has strengths and weaknesses but regardless of that, for anyone to have represented that is the way I feel about Tim Tebow is completely untrue, baseless and irresponsible,' Belichick said. 'It is unfortunate that something so inaccurate was reported.'

Footballguys view: Some felt the Patriots would make a run at Tebow because OC Josh McDaniels (former Broncos head coach) selected the controversial QB in the first-round of the 2010 NFL draft. Tebow has gotten zero NFL interest after being released by the Jets last month. That could change as we get closer to training camp but there are many who feel his days in the NFL are done.

Updating previous reports, Bob Tebow, father of free-agent QB Tim Tebow (Jets), said the report that stated that his son indicated that his NFL career is probably over is false.

Footballguys view: Tebow's football career is unlikely to be over but there are some who think he has to go to a lower level like the Arena League. Others think he needs to change positions to Fullback, H-back, or Tight End if he wants to make it in the NFL. As of right now Tebow is not on the NFL radar but that could change as we get closer to training camp.

NFL | Tim Tebow not ready to admit NFL career is over    Sat Jun 1, 09:41 PM

A source close to free-agent QB Tim Tebow (Jets) said the quarterback is not ready to call it a career in the NFL just yet. Arena League teams have shown interest in him, but no team from the Canadian Football League has expressed desire to sign him.

Footballguys view: We'll see if teams show interest in Tebow when we get closer to training camp. He didn't get a chance to show what he could do as a passer with the Jets in what was a train wreck season for him in 2012. His athleticism could get him a shot (as a backup) on a team with a spread option system.
