Philadelphia Eagles assistant head coach and running backs coach Duce Staley will be considered one of the candidates to replace Doug Pederson as the team's new head coach, according to team owner Jeffrey Lurie.
Footballguys view: Staley has been on the Eagles coaching staff since 2011. He's been the running backs coach from 2013, and in 2018 the team added assistant head coach to his title. Staley has been loyal and has a good reputation in coaching circles. He's a proven leader of men and could be a coach the Eagles rally around. |

Updating a previous report, Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson (illness) recently tested positive for coronavirus but is reportedly asymptomatic.
Footballguys view: Pederson will continue to lead the Eagles virtually 'as much as he can' while assistant head coach/running backs coach Duce Staley will serve as the interim head coach in his absence. |

Philadelphia Eagles running backs coach Duce Staley is expected to be top candidate for the New York Giants offensive coordinator position after the Giants were denied permission to talk with Minnesota Vikings quarterbacks coach Kevin Stefanski.
Footballguys view: The Giants need to run the ball with more effectiveness in 2018 and beyond. Adding Staley as OC would help them do that. Staley has coached with the Eagles since 2011 and he's been their running backs coach since 2013. |

Philadelphia Eagles running backs coach Duce Staley and former Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator Harold Goodwin could be candidates for the New York Giants offensive coordinator position, in the opinion of SNY's Ralph Vacchiano.
Footballguys view: New head coach Pat Shurmur is calling the offense this next year, so how much it matter who is in charge only nominally important. However, it makes sense a first time or relatively inexperienced offensive coordinator could take the job to learn under Shurmur for a year or so before taking over play calling duties. |

Philadelphia Eagles running backs coach Duce Staley is interviewing for Philadelphia's head coaching job, according to a source.
Footballguys view: Staley has been the running backs coach with the team since 2013, and he's been on the staff since 2011. It would be a nice turn of events for RB DeMarco Murray if Chip Kelly (who he didn't get along with) was replaced by his running backs coach. This search has just gotten started, but Staley is in the mix. |

Philadelphia Eagles running backs coach Duce Staley will ask his group to improve in pass protection, particularly blitz pickups. In order to be effective in such an area, Staley feels players must have the right attitude. 'That's one thing I've learned since I played in this league ... You've got to have that want to. You've got to have the will to go up there and meet a guy face to face and punch him in the mouth. I told the running backs last year, 'When you come off that field, make sure you're the one that's doing the whipping and not (being) the (whipped one). You're not the guy that got dropped on your neck.'' Staley also plans to have his backs become better students of the game. He wants players to take what they detect on tape from film study sessions and parlay it onto the field.
Footballguys view: Bryce Brown needs to improve this area of his game. The second-year RB needs to also improve his ball security. |

Philadelphia Eagles running backs coach Duce Staley believes RB LeSean McCoy can dominate in head coach Chip Kelly's up-tempo running attack. 'He can be the best,' Staley said. 'He can be the best to play the game.' Staley added the team's backfield 'should be licking their chops' about playing for Kelly.
Footballguys view: Kelly's system produced big numbers for RBs like Jonathan Stewart and Kenjon Barner. We think McCoy could have a top 5 fantasy season even if he has to split time with Bryce Brown. His ability as a runner and receiver out of the backfield makes him one of the most dangerous RBs in the league. |
