Bengals | Week 5 injury report for Cincinnati Fri Oct 6, 03:29 PM
Cincinnati Bengals LB Akeem Davis-Gaither (knee) did not practice all week and has been ruled out for Week 5 versus the Arizona Cardinals. CB Chidobe Awuzie (back) and DE Trey Hendrickson (back) did not practice on Friday, Oct. 6, and are listed as questionable. TE Tee Higgins (ribs) was upgraded to limited practice on Friday and is listed as questionable. CB Cam Taylor-Britt (concussion) was upgraded to full practice on Friday but is also listed as questionable. OT Orlando Brown (groin) and TE Irv Smith (hamstring) practiced in full on Friday and no longer appear on the injury report.
Footballguys view: Higgins could play, and since his injury isn't to his legs, he probably won't be limited in his snap count if he goes. It's still a very limited Bengals passing game with Joe Burrow hobbled until we see otherwise, so Higgins isn't a must start. The game has a late start out in Arizona, so you might have to decide on Higgins before you know if he'll be active. |

Bengals | Week 4 injury report for Cincinnati Fri Sep 29, 02:04 PM
Cincinnati Bengals WR Charlie Jones (thumb) and TE Irv Smith Jr. (hamstring) did not practice all week and have been ruled out for Week 4 against the Tennessee Titans. LB Akeem Davis-Gaither (knee) did not practice on Friday, Sept. 29, but is listed as questionable. CB Chidobe Awuzie (rest) also did not practice on Friday but is expected to play. QB Joe Burrow (calf) practiced in full on Friday and has been removed from the injury report.
Footballguys view: Burrow being removed from the injury report creates some hope that his calf injury is improving despite him playing on it and admitting it had gotten worse earlier in the season. With the soft Titans pass defense up, Burrow might actually deserve a spot in your lineup this week. |

Bengals | Irv Smith fitting in Sat Jun 17, 04:12 PM
Cincinnati Bengals TE Irv Smith has been 'really impressive' during OTAs, according to head coach Zac Taylor, and Taylor said Smith has already integrated himself into the offense.
Footballguys view: Smith has always had natural talent, but he failed to put it all together with the Vikings. Earlier this offseason, Smith signed a one-year, $1.75 million contract. It's clearly a 'prove it' deal for a player who has only appeared in 21 games over the last three seasons. In this offense, and with his receiving ability, Smith has sleeper appeal - if he can stay healthy - this season. |

Bengals | Irv Smith 'entrenched' as starter? Tue May 2, 12:37 PM
Cincinnati Bengals TE Irv Smith 'looks entrenched as the starter' for 2023, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic wrote on Saturday, April 29.
Footballguys view: So long as Smith stays healthy, that should be the case. Smith is a talented player who can attack the middle of the field with speed and athleticism, but he has yet to truly play up to his full potential in the pros (largely due to injury). Behind Smith, Drew Sample is there to back him up if/when injuries strike again. |

Vikings | Irv Smith expected to be activated from IR Sat Jan 7, 08:27 AM
The Minnesota Vikings are planning to activate TE Irv Smith (ankle) from the Reserve/Injured list Saturday, Jan. 7, so that he can be eligible to play in the team's Week 18 game versus the Chicago Bears.
Footballguys view: The Vikings are working to make a deep postseason run, and Smith would be an interesting weapon to have at their disposal. They made a trade for TE T.J. Hockenson, and he's taken over at the position with great play. Upon his return, Smith is a reserve player behind Hockenson. |

Vikings | Irv Smith may need surgery Wed Nov 2, 03:42 PM
Minnesota Vikings TE Irv Smith (ankle) may need to undergo surgery on his high ankle sprain and is receiving a second option on the injury, according to head coach Kevin O'Connell.
Footballguys view: Smith's high-ankle sprain is reportedly going to take two months to recover from. This is about twice as long as most injuries of that nature take to heal. That tells us Smith has an injury that may need surgery to properly repair. There's a reason why they went out and traded for TE T.J. Hockenson, and he'll be the lead tight end even if/when Smith comes back. |

Vikings | Irv Smith put on injured reserve Tue Nov 1, 02:25 PM
Minnesota Vikings TE Irv Smith (ankle) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Nov. 1.
Footballguys view: Reports indicate Smith has a high-ankle sprain. While that at least takes a month to recover, there have been recent reports indicating Smith may need to miss twice as long. It's a severe injury, and that's one of the reasons why the Vikings made a trade for T.J. Hockenson on Tuesday. |

Vikings | Irv Smith likely to miss least two months Tue Nov 1, 01:08 PM
Minnesota Vikings TE Irv Smith (ankle) is expected to be sidelined eight to 10 weeks with the high-ankle sprain he suffered in Week 8 against the Arizona Cardinals, according to a source.
Footballguys view: A high-ankle sprain is a devastating injury that just takes time to heal. This sounds like a pretty severe high-ankle sprain because most players with this have to miss around a month. Smith might miss twice that long. This is one of the reasons why the Vikings traded for T.J. Hockenson on Tuesday. |

Vikings | High-ankle sprain for Irv Smith Mon Oct 31, 01:14 PM
Updating a previous report, Minnesota Vikings TE Irv Smith (ankle) was diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain Monday, Oct. 31, and is expected to miss multiple games.
Footballguys view: High-ankle sprains tend to take some time to get right, and they need about a month of rest. We'll see if Smith can be back before that, but he may avoid being put on Injured Reserve (which would cost him four games minimum). Johnny Mundt will get more work while Smith is out of action. |

Vikings | Irv Smith's Week 1 role based on game plan Tue Sep 13, 01:20 PM
Minnesota Vikings TE Irv Smith will play 'a major role for us,' but his Week 1 usage was based on game plan and not health, according to comments made by head coach Kevin O'Connell.'Those guys all know how we operate. We're a game-to-game, week-to-week operation,' O'Connell said.
Footballguys view: If you're thinking about shutting down Smith on your fantasy roster, perhaps this news item will reinforce that notion. Smith is coming back from injury, but the team felt others were the best way to attack the Packers. There will be weeks where Smith is a larger part of the game plan. When that will happen is the guessing game we are in right now. |

Vikings | Irv Smith 100 percent healthy Sat Sep 10, 03:15 PM
Minnesota Vikings TE Irv Smith (thumb) said his thumb is 100 percent healthy and he expects to have no issues catching the ball in Week 1.
Footballguys view: Smith makes for an interesting player in the new Vikings' offense. They should be much more high-powered in the passing attack under new head coach Kevin O'Connell, and this system is set up for Smith to have great success. He didn't get much work with QB Kirk Cousins over the course of training camp and the preseason. We like Smith in the TE12-15 range, and he's got upside, against the Packers on Sunday. |

Vikings | Irv Smith likely to play in opener Fri Sep 2, 01:13 PM
Minnesota Vikings TE Irv Smith (thumb) has been catching balls for 'several days' and is expected to be ready for Week 1 against the Green Bay Packers after undergoing thumb surgery on Aug. 1.
Footballguys view: Smith missed the install of the new offense this summer, but is still the best tight end on the team. He hasn't been to put it all together yet, but is worth a late pick in tight end premium leagues to see if he can start to blossom in a likely improved offense. |
