Football Team | Alex Smith uncertain about future    Sun Jan 10, 01:38 PM

Washington Football Team QB Alex Smith said he will take a few weeks to decide if he wants to play next season.

Footballguys view: Smith was able to fight back from one of the most horrific leg injuries in league history. He ended up playing in eight games in 2020, passing for 1,582 yards, six touchdowns and eight interceptions. Smith proved he could still be a starter in this league and has all the respect in the world for the way he had to battle back from an injury most others would have not. We'll see if he wants to play next season, likely as a backup. He's signed through the 2022 season, and would need to restructure if he stays with Washington.

Football Team | Washington may play two QBs vs. Tampa Bay    Tue Jan 5, 02:08 PM

Washington Football Team QBs Alex Smith and Taylor Heinicke could rotate in some form or fashion in the NFC Wild Card game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this weekend, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

Footballguys view: Heinicke was thrust into action in Week 16 and looked good in relief of Dwayne Haskins. Smith started and played in Week 17 going for two touchdowns and two interceptions. Going with two quarterbacks would be an interesting strategy, especially against a ferocious front seven like the Buccaneers have.

Washington Football Team QB Alex Smith (calf) is considered day to day, and the team hopes he can practice in some capacity this week.

Footballguys view: Washington has an ...interesting quarterback situation this week. Dwayne Haskins could be fined a week's salary and face a four-game suspension for engaging in "high risk COVID-19 conduct." Smith has not been ruled out for Week 16. We'll see if he can practice late in the week so he can get out there.

Washington Football Team QB Alex Smith (calf) on Friday, Dec. 18, was ruled out of the team's Week 15 game Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks.

Footballguys view: Dwayne Haskins will get the start, which is probably good for his college teammate Terry McLaurin, but bad for J.D. McKissic and Logan Thomas. Washington's offense will operate at an even lower wattage for this game.

Football Team | Optimism for Alex Smith    Tue Dec 15, 09:43 AM

Washington Football Team QB Alex Smith (calf) has optimism regarding his status for Week 15 against the Seattle Seahawks.

Footballguys view: Expect Washington to limit Smith this week in practice as he deals with this calf injury. It's to the same leg that was broken in 2018, so they need to be especially cautious. By the end of the week we should know if Smith is going to start or if Dwayne Haskins is going to get the nod.

Football Team | Alex Smith throws for 390 yards    Sun Nov 15, 06:25 PM

Washington Football Team QB Alex Smith completed 38-of-55 passes for 390 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 10 against the Detroit Lions in his first start since that devastating leg injury in 2018.

Footballguys view: Smith missed JD McKissic on what could have been a touchdown early and the running backs finished the other three touchdowns drives, so all of Smith's yards resulted in no touchdowns and a merely adequate fantasy afternoon. He should be worth a look in 2QB/Superflex leagues against the Bengals next week.

Washington Football Team QB Alex Smith went 24-for-32 for 325 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions against the New York Giants in Week 9 after replacing QB Kyle Allen (ankle).

Footballguys view: Smith was much better than his first relief appearance this year and it looks like he can sustain the value of Terry McLaurin in addition to retaining his title as checkdown king, buoying the value of J.D. McKissic. We'll expect him to start and have QB2/Superflex/Streamer value against the Lions next week even though he threw multiple picks with the game on the line this week.

Football Team | Alex Smith may take over starting job    Sun Oct 11, 11:16 AM

Washington Football Team QB Alex Smith may take over the starting job in a few weeks depending on how he performs during practice, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Smith needs to be moving better than he was in camp to make this viable. It won't be surprising to see him start soon, but it also won't be surprising if he looks overwhelmed because of a lack of mobility. It's reasonable to add him to the end of your bench in 2QB/Superflex leagues.
