Footballguys view: When the team selected Lance Kendricks in the 2011 NFL Draft it could bump guys like Schouman, Daniel Fells, or Fendi Onubun off the roster.

Bills | Derek Schouman out 3-6 weeks    Sat Aug 21, 07:46 PM

Buffalo Bills TE Derek Schouman (knee) will miss three to six weeks because of a knee injury he suffered in the team's preseason game Thursday, Aug. 19, according to The Buffalo News' Mark Gaughan.

Footballguys view: The Bills are hurting at the tight end position. Schouman is now out for a month or more, and Shawn Nelson was suspended for the first four games of the 2010 season for violating the league's substance abuse policy. Expect the Bills to make a move for a free agent tight end when camp cuts start.

Bills | Derek Schouman has some catching up to do    Sun Jul 4, 02:57 PM

Buffalo Bills TE Derek Schouman (knee) is confident he can return to the field at full strength this year, reports Tony Jones, of BuffaloBills.com. Schouman suffered a severe knee injury early last season. He feels like he is playing catch up a bit because he missed a lot of on-field work, but said he has had his nose in the playbook. 'It's just getting the actual reps, being in the huddle and getting used to everything and that'll come with time,' he noted.

Footballguys view: Schouman could be a fine reserve player for the Bills, but we see second-year guy Shawn Nelson as the leader to be the starting TE in Buffalo.

Bills | Five battling for starting tight end duties    Sun Jul 4, 02:56 PM

Buffalo Bills TEs Shawn Nelson, Jonathan Stupar, Michael Matthews, Derek Schouman and Joe Klopfenstein are competing for the team's starting tight end role, reports Tony Jones, of BuffaloBills.com. Head coach Chan Gailey appears to want more out of the position than just a dynamic pass receiver.

Footballguys view: We like second-year player Shawn Nelson over any of these other guys. Nelson is a strong player who gets up to his top speed in a hurry. He's athletic enough to attack the deep middle seams of a defense, but also shows good effort as a blocker. We'll see how this battle shakes out in training camp.

Bills | Jauron believes Schouman taking charge of TE job    Mon Aug 3, 05:51 PM

CBSSports.com reports Buffalo Bills head coach Dick Jauron said he believes TE Derek Schouman is taking charge of the starting tight end competition.

Footballguys view: Shawn Nelson gives the offense another weapon, but he will have to beat out Schouman for the starting job and at this point it seems the veteran is holding off the rookie.

Bills | Schouman first TE through rotation    Sat Jul 25, 05:56 PM

Chris Brown, of BuffaloBills.com, reports that TE Derek Schouman was the first through the rotation, but "the reps were split pretty evenly with Derek Fine"

Footballguys view: There probably isn't much fantasy value to be had at the Buffalo TE position, unless rookie Shawn Nelson ends up being an immediate hit, but we're still tracking the position battle.

Bills | Wilson and Schouman already grinding    Thu Jul 16, 03:16 PM

Chris Brown, from BuffaloBills.com, reports George Wilson and Derek Schouman aren't waiting until report day for camp next week. They're already grinding at One Bills Drive in the weight room now.

Footballguys view: Brown points out that Schouman has been at the facility this entire offseason and he could see some more time in line as a blocker because he's getting so big. While Schouman is going to stay in and block, we expect rookie Shawn Nelson to be a consistent pass catcher from the TE position.
