Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger went 23-for-36 for 237 yards and two touchdowns against the Houston Texans in Week 3.

Footballguys view: Roethlisberger was uneven at times and he lost Diontae Johnson to a concussion, but his fantasy result was still acceptable. In Week 4, he'll face a vulnerable Titans pass defense that Justin Jefferson just lit up.

Pittsburgh Steelers OL Stefen Wisniewski (chest) and OG David DeCastro (knee) did not practice all week and have been ruled out for Week 2 against the Denver Broncos. QB Ben Roethlisberger (coach's decision), WR Diontae Johnson (toe), WR JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee), RB James Conner (ankle), C Maurkice Pouncey (coach's decision), OT Alejandro Villanueva (illness) and DE Stephon Tuitt (Achilles) practiced in full Friday, Sept. 18, and no longer appear on the injury report.

Footballguys view: The Steelers will be starting Kevin Dotson and Chuks Okorafor on the offensive line against the Broncos. They have used up their depth on the offensive line and we are only headed into Week 2. This could be a problem as we get further into the season.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger pain-free    Tue Aug 25, 11:30 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (elbow) has been pain-free and said he dealt with elbow pain for 13 or 14 years because of a previous tear.

Footballguys view: Great news for the veteran quarterback. He had most of the 2019 season off due to this elbow injury. It was a major injury and Roethlisberger is not getting any younger. What does he have left in the tank? Nobody knows that answer truly but it will determine how far the Steelers can go in 2020. So far, the steady drumbeat about Roethlisberger has been positive.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger details injury    Tue Aug 4, 11:53 AM

Updating previous reports, Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (elbow) said he tore three flexor tendons off the bone, and he's attempting to come back from a surgery he believes no quarterback has ever come back from. It wasn't Tommy John surgery, but it was somewhat similar and equally serious.

Footballguys view: It's a serious injury that Roethlisberger is coming back from...at age 38. Who knows what Roethlisberger has left in the tank but after most of 2019 off (only 2 games played) he could look better than some expect. Roethlisberger will be on a rep count in training camp to help keep him fresh for the regular season.

Steelers | Big Ben encouraged    Tue Aug 4, 11:47 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (elbow) said his arm feels really good Tuesday, Aug. 4, after throwing the previous day. He said he has been throwing more than usual this offseason, but he'll still be on a pitch count in training camp.

Footballguys view: Steelers fans and Fantasy GMs should be encouraged too. A healthy Roethlisberger means good things for the passing game and assets like WR JuJu Smith-Schuster. He's a QB2 with QB1 upside in 2020 with a current ADP of QB16 (11.10) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Steelers | Chase Claypool worked out with QB    Thu Jul 30, 01:32 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Chase Claypool said he was able to catch some passes from QB Ben Roethlisberger this offseason.

Footballguys view: Good news for the rookie here, and Fantasy GMs in dynasty leagues are certainly intrigued by the Notre Dame wideout. Claypool is a size/speed/strength prospect who lacks polish to his game. He does attack the ball in the air and uses his catch radius to snare passes that others couldn't. Claypool will work on special teams and as a reserve receiver for the Steelers in 2020.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger not throwing deep    Sat Jul 11, 11:04 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger has the lowest NFL's air yards percentage over the last two seasons at 46 percent, according to Pro Football Focus.

Footballguys view: Roethlisberger benefited from his receiver run after catch ability and that shouldn't change this year. As long as his arm is sound, he could be a top 10 fantasy quarterback again this year. We'll be watching to see how his chemistry is with Diontae Johnson after he barely played with the breakout rookie last year. Juju Smith-Schuster could dominate targets for the Steelers if Roethlisberger relies on the receiver he is most familiar with, by a large margin.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger's progress pleasing team staff    Tue Jun 23, 03:13 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (elbow) has impressed coaches and doctors with his progress from last year's season-ending injury, according to head coach Mike Tomlin Tuesday, June 23. 'He's comfortable and pleased where he is,' Tomlin said. 'Some people who had the opportunity to work with him are impressed and pleased where he is. The medical experts are comfortable where he is and his readiness for 2020.'

Footballguys view: Roethlisberger's elbow is the key to the Steelers offense this year. If it's sound, then James Conner and Juju Smith-Schuster will be good value picks, and probably at least one other Steelers passcatcher, and of course Roethlisberger himself. Hopefully we will get to see Roethlisberger play once in the preseason, but it's not assured, especially if it's shortened.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger an award favorite    Fri Jun 5, 02:14 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (elbow) is a co-favorite, along with Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE Rob Gronkowski to win the 2020 NFL Comeback Player of the Year award, according to odds posted by MGM.

Footballguys view: The durability of both is in question, but the year off for Gronkowski could improve his ability to stay on the field, and Roethlisberger should be more effective passing than he was in Week 1 last year, when he was playing with his elbow injury.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger being babied by team    Tue May 19, 12:22 PM

Updating previous reports, Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (elbow) has been ready to throw for 'some time,' NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said.

Footballguys view: The team has to be cautious with the veteran quarterback. The Steelers coaches have been overly cautious with Roethlisberger following elbow surgery last year. We expect him to be eased into training camp and he should be limited in the preseason.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger throwing passes    Mon May 18, 03:02 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (elbow) recently worked out with RB James Conner, WR JuJu Smith-Schuster and WR Ryan Switzer and was throwing passes during the workout.

Footballguys view: Good news for the Steelers here. Roethlisberger was lost for the season in 2019 after just two weeks. He's spent around nine months on the road to recovery so far. We expect Roethlisberger to get eased into action in training camp and the preseason.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger setback free    Thu May 14, 07:01 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (elbow) has been progressing well in his recovery after missing the final 14 games of the 2019 season due to an elbow injury, according to head coach Mike Tomlin. 'He's doing great thus far. He's in great physical condition. Rehabilitation, in regards to the injury itself, is going well. I hear nothing but positive reports from that standpoint,' Tomlin said. 'There have been no bumps in the road.'

Footballguys view: Great news for the Steelers here. Nobody knows how much Roethlisberger has left in the tank. This elbow injury should limit the veteran quarterback in training camp and the preseason. The upside is there for Roethlisberger to be a low-end QB1 for Fantasy GMs in 2020...if he can stay healthy.

Steelers | Big Ben to be ready    Fri May 8, 10:10 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (elbow) is doing well in his rehab and expected to be ready for the season, according to head coach Mike Tomlin. 'As we sit here today, we are extremely confident in his readiness,' Tomlin said. 'We are enjoying the process that he's going through right now. Obviously, it's not without its angst. The guy is coming off a season-ending injury and surgery. But we like where we are. He's throwing on a rehab schedule, and it's going well, and we fully anticipate him being ready to go for that opener.'

Footballguys view: Roethlisberger's fitness was recently panned by Jay Glazer so his physical conditioning will be something to monitor when camp opens. If he can stay healthy this year, the Steelers offense should be much improved from being one of the worst in the league last year.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger excited to return    Fri Apr 17, 04:56 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (elbow) said he is excited to return to the field and believes missing most of the season last year put a 'little fire' into him.

Footballguys view: We're excited to see Roethlisberger back in action this year. He's a low-end QB1 for Fantasy GMs if healthy. Roethlisberger said he is going to give it everything he has to be better than ever. While he previously rested his arm during the offseason, he is throwing about three times a week as he works through recovery from surgery.

Steelers | Good progress for Ben Roethlisberger    Mon Apr 6, 02:59 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (elbow) said his recovery is going fine and that he believes he would have been able to participate in some offseason workouts.

Footballguys view: If OTAs and minicamp were to happen, which seems doubtful at this time, we think Roethlisberger would have been limited. It sounds like he's on track for training camp, which is great news for the Steelers. They need to take their backup QB position seriously as Mason Rudolph doesn't appear to be the long-term answer.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger confident in full return    Fri Mar 20, 01:35 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (elbow) has 'no doubts' he'll be able to make a full return in 2020 and come back and play well, he said Thursday, March 19. 'I have complete confidence in that. I'm throwing without pain for the first time in years,' Roethlisberger said. 'Some games, I would have a little pain. Some games, I would have a lot of pain.'

Footballguys view: The Steelers can be confident in Roethlisberger's return as well....but they still need to be planning for the future. The heir apparent for the Steelers is not currently on the roster. They need to make plans in case Roethlisberger does not get back to what he once was...and also because he likely only has a year or two left.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger a few months away    Sun Feb 23, 01:22 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (elbow) said he has been cleared to start throwing a football but is still about two and a half to three months away from receiving full clearance.

Footballguys view: Roethlisberger has begun throwing but he's nowhere near ready. We imagine the Steelers will be very careful with the veteran quarterback this entire offseason. In fact, we might not see him do much of anything until the Steelers start training camp in the summer.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger starts throwing    Sat Feb 22, 04:28 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (elbow) was throwing a football indoors in a video shared by the team Saturday, Feb. 22.

Footballguys view: That's a good sign for the veteran quarterback. The Steelers are likely to take it easy on him as he comes back from this latest injury. The fact that he is throwing this early is good news and we expect him to be full strength by the start of training camp and the preseason.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger expected for Week 1    Mon Feb 17, 01:18 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (elbow) should be ready for the start of the 2020 regular season, according to head coach Mike Tomlin.

Footballguys view: Great news here. We are all interested to see how much Roethlisberger has left in the tank after missing most of the 2019 season. His draft classmates are not looking as good as they used to. Eli Manning ended up retiring and Philip Rivers is declining in play quality and looking for a new team for the first time in 16 years. Roethlisberger might only have a year or two left as the Steelers starter, and they need to get serious about finding his heir apparent.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger to have check-up    Thu Feb 13, 02:09 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (elbow) has a check-up on his injured elbow scheduled for Friday, Feb. 21, in Los Angeles, and Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert says he is optimistic. 'All signs are good,' Colbert said Thursday, Feb. 13. 'We're hopeful he can make a complete recovery.'

Footballguys view: We're curious to see how much Roethlisberger has left in the tank. The Steelers don't have a quarterback of the future on the roster, so it's all about Roethlisberger for at least one more season.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (elbow) is scheduled to meet with his doctors later this month to have his surgically repaired elbow examined.

Footballguys view: We'll keep an eye on Roethlisberger's progress as the offseason rolls on. He hopes to be cleared to start throwing tennis balls and other lighter objects after the meeting. Roethlisberger believes he will be able to participate in the May workouts.

Chiefs | Patrick Mahomes joins elite club    Mon Feb 3, 11:29 PM

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes joined Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger and New England Patriots QB Tom Brady as the only quarterbacks to win a Super Bowl before the age of 25. Both Roethlisberger and Brady have gone on to win multiple titles in their careers.

Footballguys view: Mahomes is likely to win multiple championships as well. If the Chiefs play things right, they could be building a dynasty with Mahomes leading the way. They have an opportunity to be Super Bowl contenders for a decade so long as Mahomes is their quarterback. They should give him a new contract that makes him the highest-paid player in NFL history, but they do have him under contract for the next two seasons.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger set for February recheck    Tue Dec 31, 05:04 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (elbow) reportedly has a medical checkup scheduled in February that will be 'significant in terms of mapping out what is next,' according to head coach Mike Tomlin.

Footballguys view: Roethlisberger insists that he's going to keep playing football for years to come. The reality is that Father Time has to be catching up to him...just like it did his draft classmates Eli Manning and Philip Rivers. We should see him severely limited this offseason with an eye on a return for the veteran quarterback during training camp.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger determined    Wed Dec 25, 01:22 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger took to Twitter to announce that he has been working hard and is more determined than ever to come back stronger next year.

Footballguys view: Retirement is always going to be swirling around Roethlisberger at this point in his career, but he seems bound and determined after missing most of the 2019 season. The other top QBs in his draft class, Philip Rivers and Eli Manning, seem to be near the end of their playing days. Perhaps Roethlisberger can find more success than those two in 2020. Either way, the Steelers need to be thinking about the future at the position as Mason Rudolph (or anyone else currently on the roster) is a long-term answer.
