Cowboys | Dak Prescott carted off in Week 5    Sun Oct 11, 06:38 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott suffered what appeared to be a serious left ankle or leg injury in the second half of Week 5 against the New York Giants. He was tackled on a rushing play and went down immediately. The cart came out immediately, and he was taken off after several minutes on the ground.

Footballguys view: Prescott appeared to dislocate or break his ankle. He was in tears and the team was visibly shaken up. Anything less than a season ending injury would be a win for the Cowboys. Andy Dalton is one of the best backups in the league, but everyone in the Cowboys offense takes a big hit on this news.

Cowboys | Another giant stat line for Dak Prescott    Sun Oct 4, 06:07 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott completed 41-of-58 passes for 502 yards, four touchdowns and an interception in Week 4 against the Cleveland Browns. He is the first quarterback in NFL history with at least 450 passing yards in three straight games, and he has the most passing yards (1,657) in NFL history through four games.

Footballguys view: Prescott had 174 yards and two scores in the first quarter but then slowed down until the Browns opened up a 41-14 lead and went into prevent mode. The points count the same for fantasy leagues as Prescott is now on a well over 6000 yard pace. He won't get there, but his poor defense will help him maximize his ceiling. The Giants defense has the challenge of slowing down this passing game next week.

Cowboys | Too many passes for Dak Prescott?    Thu Oct 1, 02:27 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott leads the league in passing attempts (143), completions (143) and yards (1,188) after three weeks, but head coach Mike McCarthy would prefer more balance with the team attempting approximately 40 passes and rushing the ball 30 times per game.

Footballguys view: Prescott has been on fire this year, partly because of his talent and the weapons in the passing game but also partly because the Cowboys defense isn't good and the team has to play catch up. We'll see if they can lean on Ezekiel Elliott and the rushing attack more. The Cowboys should be able to control the tempo against the Browns in Week 4.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott optimistic about contract    Wed Aug 12, 02:54 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott said he is optimistic that he will be able to reach a long-term agreement with the Cowboys after the 2020 season.

Footballguys view: Prescott is playing on the one-year franchise tag in 2020. The two sides were unable to come to an agreement before the mid-July deadline. Prescott's deal won't be what Patrick Mahomes got from the Chiefs, but it will make him one of the highest paid quarterbacks in the league.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott not scared of close quarters    Sun Jul 19, 10:13 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott attempted 128 throws into tight coverage in 2019, according to Pro Football Focus. That mark was good for the third-highest total in the league, two behind second-place Andy Dalton, who was signed in free agency to back him up in 2020.

Footballguys view: Prescott should be able to unlock the value of three excellent wide receivers and a big play tight end against defenses that also have to make a point of slowing down Ezekiel Elliott. The Cowboys should have one of the best fantasy football offenses in the league.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott turning down $100 million?    Tue Jul 14, 09:50 PM

Updating previous reports, Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott and the team have not engaged in recent discussions, according to NFL Network's Jane Slater. Per Slater, the final offer on the table ahead of the July 15 deadline for signing franchise-tagged players to long-term deals is between $33 million and $35 million annually with over $100 million guaranteed.

Footballguys view: Prescott will play under the franchise tag this year and make a little over 31 million. This is an odd situation in that the Cowboys appear to be sold on Prescott (unlike the Kirk Cousins-Washington and Drew Brees-Chargers situations) but the two sides couldn't agree on the terms for a multi-year contract. The Cowboys are still likely to sign Prescott to a long-term deal in 2021 or have him play on another franchise tag north of 37 million.

Cowboys | No more talks planned with Dak Prescott    Tue Jul 14, 03:06 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott has no further negotiations planned with the team ahead of Wednesday, July 15's deadline for franchise-tagged players to sign a long-term contract. Prescott will play the 2020 season on the $31.4 million tag if no deal is struck.

Footballguys view: Prescott will cost about 38 million next year if the Cowboys want to tag him again. He played above expectations last year and increased his cost after the Cowboys decided to not sign him to a long-term deal before the season. They lose the opportunity to open cap room for acquisitions in a Super Bowl push, but might gain a little relief in the eventual contract if the cap stays flat next year. Recent extensions for Chris Jones, Myles Garrett, and Patrick Mahomes suggest that the Cowboys might not get a discount even if the cap stays flat in 2021.

Cowboys | Prospects for Dak Prescott extension dimming    Sun Jul 12, 09:35 PM

Updating previous reports, Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott and the team are reportedly 'not close' to agreeing to a contract extension as of Sunday, July 12, according to Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News via a source. The two sides have until July 15 to reach a long-term agreement or Prescott will be forced to play the 2020 season under the $31.4 million franchise tag he signed recently.

Footballguys view: Prescott and his camp are likely betting on a flat cap due to revenue loss this year not affecting quarterback salary growth. The Cowboys are missing a chance to lower their cap number this year. If they try to tag Prescott next year, his price will be close to $38 million.

Cowboys | DAL still hopeful Dak Prescott will agree to extension    Sun Jul 12, 11:01 AM

The Dallas Cowboys remain optimistic that QB Dak Prescott will accept their best contract extension offer before the NFL deadline Wednesday, July 15, at 4 p.m. ET. However, multiple league sources believe that no long-term deal will be completed by the deadline because he has already signed his franchise tag tender.

Footballguys view: The whole league has been thrown into limbo with regard to contract extensions and negotiations because revenue is sure to be down this year and no one knows how the loss of cap growth will affect next year's cap and subsequent years. Prescott would likely have to take less than he would have gotten in January, but he could still get more than he would next year if the league is underestimating how much damage there will be to revenues. Also if the Cowboys sign Prescott and lower his cap number this year, they could open up room to make a move for a title run. This one is tough to predict.

Cowboys | No progress on Dak Prescott talks    Tue Jul 7, 07:36 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott has not engaged in contract talks with the team since March, according to a source Monday, July 6. If a long-term extension isn't done by July 15, Prescott will play out the 2020 season under the franchise tag.

Footballguys view: Deals get done at deadlines in the NFL. That deadline is next Wednesday so we're expecting some feverish negotiations to happen over the course of the weekend. Prescott will not get a deal like Patrick Mahomes just got from the Chiefs, but the Cowboys should make him among the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL. Stay tuned.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott hit several long passes    Thu Jul 2, 03:25 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott completed 16 passes of at least 40 yards during the 2019 season, which led the league in the category.

Footballguys view: Prescott should hit even more this year with the addition of Ceedee Lamb. Tight end Blake Jarwin is a sleeper to target in the late rounds after being one of the more explosive tight ends in the league despite playing behind new Las Vegas Raider Jason Witten in the target pecking order.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott on historic production pace    Tue Jun 23, 04:05 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott is just the seventh quarterback ever with at least 90 touchdown passes and 20 rushing touchdowns over a four-season span. He is the first QB to accomplish the feat in his first four seasons. He has 97 career touchdown passes and 21 rushing TDs.

Footballguys view: Prescott could set a career high in passing touchdowns this year with the addition of Ceedee Lamb to the passing game. He should have the highest ADP in fantasy drafts of his career this year.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott signed lofty tag    Tue Jun 23, 10:56 AM

Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott signed the exclusive franchise tag, which was worth $31.4 million. The sides have until July 15 to sign a long-term deal.

Footballguys view: The team could open up enough cap room to trade for Jamal Adams and sign him to an extension if they also sign Prescott long term and lower his 2020 cap number. Prescott could also see a window to maximize his earnings if he thinks the cap will flatten or even go lower because of coronavirus effects on league revenues.

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott has thrown for 24 touchdowns outside the red zone since 2018 - the second-highest total by any quarterback in the league over that span.

Footballguys view: Prescott has gotten a huge boost from the trade for Amari Cooper and drafting of Michael Gallup. Ceedee Lamb should only help him have more long strike capabilities and Blake Jarwin was one of the best big play tight ends last year. Prescott should be one of the first five quarterbacks taken in every draft.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott officially signs tender    Mon Jun 22, 03:56 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott officially signed his one-year tender offer Monday, June 22.

Footballguys view: This gives him a fully guaranteed one-year deal worth around $31 million. The two sides still have until July 15th to come up with a long-term agreement. By signing his tender, Prescott now must show up to all mandatory work when training camp rolls around. Reports indicate that Prescott wants a four-year deal while the team wants him to sign a five-year contract. Stay tuned.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott still seeking four-year deal    Mon Jun 22, 03:32 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott is still looking for a four-year contract extension, while the Cowboys would prefer to give Prescott a five-year contract, according to a source.

Footballguys view: This must be the biggest hangup in this contract situation. With the uncertain nature of the salary cap due to COVID-19, things are more complicated than ever. The Cowboys and Prescott have until mid-July to get a new long-term deal done.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott not close to long-term deal    Sun Jun 21, 03:52 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott is not close to an agreement on a long-term contract with the Cowboys at this point, according to sources. Prescott does plan to sign his one-year tender.

Footballguys view: The team has until July 15 to work a deal out, but it doesn't sound like they are willing to reset the market with a blockbuster deal.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott to sign franchise tender    Sun Jun 21, 02:35 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott plans to sign his one-year tender offer by Monday, June 22, according to a source. The two sides have until July 15 to reach a long-term agreement.

Footballguys view: With the cap possibly going down or staying level for a while, the Cowboys have a stronger position and might not reset the market with Prescott's new deal - if he signs one. Prescott could also gamble on having a good enough year to take control of the situation and basically force the Cowboys to give him the biggest contract in NFL history - that is unless Patrick Mahomes gets signed first.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott successful in no huddle    Sat Jun 20, 04:34 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott threw for 809 yards when the team was using the no-huddle offense during the 2019 season.

Footballguys view: Prescott has no worries when in the no-huddle offense. He's got great weapons around him and a superstar running back Ezekiel Elliott to hand the ball to. The team also added a potential Pro Bowl WR in rookie CeeDee Lamb with their first-round pick in the 2020 NFL draft. Expect these numbers to continue for Prescott.

Cowboys | Coach expecting Dak Prescott    Sat May 30, 12:48 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott has yet to sign his exclusive franchise tag and has not been participating in the team's virtual offseason workout program. But head coach Mike McCarthy says he has little concern about Prescott. 'He's involved in a business situation and I have full confidence that he'll be ready to go,' McCarthy said on a recent media conference call. '... There has been communication. I mean this is the way these business situations go sometimes. You respect that. I have all the confidence it will work out.'

Footballguys view: The deal seems on edge right now, but we have a feeling things will change near the deadline. Come mid-July, the Cowboys should pony up the money for Prescott and make him one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league. Stay tuned.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott better with more options    Wed May 27, 10:28 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott was accurate on only 60.9 percent of his throws with three receivers running a route in 2019. However, that mark increased to 81.8 percent when he had four pass-catchers available to him and 79.3 percent with five receivers running a route.

Footballguys view: Prescott now has more firepower at the wide receiver position with the selection of CeeDee Lamb in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft. He'll team up with Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup to create one of the best WR trios in the league. Prescott could post even better numbers in 2020.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott reportedly wants four-year deal    Sun May 24, 09:35 AM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott reportedly is interested in a four-year contract extension, while the team is interested in a five-year contract, according to a source. A potential deal could make Prescott No. 1 or No. 2 among NFL quarterbacks in either average salary or guaranteed money.

Footballguys view: The deal is going to be near or at the top of the quarterback charts...until the Chiefs sign Patrick Mahomes to a long-term deal. Deals get done at deadlines in the NFL, and that is coming up in mid-July. The two sides seem to be open to getting something done and as we get closer to the deadline we should see something happen.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott turns down huge deal?    Thu May 21, 01:35 PM

Updating an ongoing story, Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott turned down a five-year, $175 million contract offer, according to NBC Sports' Chris Simms. It would have made Prescott the highest-paid quarterback in NFL history.

Footballguys view: The numbers is huge but it's all about the language of the deal. Prescott could set the market for the position, but it won't be long until Patrick Mahomes (Chiefs) crushes that deal. Prescott's representation reportedly is seeking a deal that will play him more than $45 million for the final season of a new contract.

Cowboys | A closer look at Dak Prescott    Tue May 12, 08:31 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott boasts a career record of 40-24 as an NFL starter. In his 40 wins, he has thrown for 75 touchdowns versus only 10 interceptions, completed 69.2 percent of his passes and compiled a passer rating of 112.2. In his 24 losses, he has thrown for only 22 TDs versus 26 interceptions, completed 61.1 percent of his throws and compiled a passer rating of 76.0.

Footballguys view: Like most quarterbacks, Prescott is better playing with a lead. He's getting better as a passer and should soon have a new long-term contract from the Cowboys. The two sides have until July 15th to get a new deal done. He's QB7 (6.09) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott has thrown 97 touchdown passes in his regular-season career. Only eight players in league history had more TD passes across their first four seasons.

Footballguys view: Prescott is getting better with time. The Cowboys put the franchise tag on him earlier this year and the two sides have until July 15th to work out a long-term deal. We'll see if they can get something done. The Cowboys signed Andy Dalton to a contract to serve as Prescott's backup and give them veteran insurance as they hope to be in a Super Bowl window.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott's tag stands    Sat May 9, 12:25 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott will not have the franchise tag offer rescinded by the team, Cowboys director of player personnel Stephen Jones said Friday, May 8. 'Absolutely not,' Jones said on the Pro Football Talk podcast. 'Dak's our quarterback for the future. Obviously, this hasn't been the easiest thing. As Jerry says, 'As money gets bigger, deals get harder.' Certainly, we're talking a significant amount of money here which he so deserves. Absolutely not. Dak's going to be our quarterback this year. He's our quarterback for the future. We think the world of him. He represents our franchise in a very positive way in terms of what we want as a leader of our team. He's just an outstanding man, and we would never rescind the franchise tag.'

Footballguys view: The tag stays in place because it gives the Cowboys protection. They have until July 15th to get the long-term deal done or else Prescott will play on a one-year, fully guaranteed contract. The team really has little leverage in this situation. Some will point to the signing of Andy Dalton as added leverage but we don't see it that way. Prescott is a fine quarterback who will be one of the highest-paid players at the position. Expect a deal to get done near mid July.

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott completed 70.1 percent of his passes last season on straight dropback passes - defined as a pass where the quarterback didn't use play action or throw a screen - making him the most accurate quarterback on such throws in the NFL.

Footballguys view: Defenses are set to stop Ezekiel Elliott and that threat helps open things up for the passing game. Expect the team to keep using that to their advantage ...especially with more weapons around Prescott in 2020.

Prescott was franchise tagged by the team but has not signed his tender. He's got all the leverage and will get a contract that makes him one of the highest paid quarterbacks in the league, perhaps even the No.1 spot...before Patrick Mahomes resets the market.

TMZ Sports had reported more than 30 people were at his home, which would be a violation of the CDC's social distancing guidelines.   Cowboys | Dak Prescott has backing    Fri Mar 27, 02:26 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott, who has received the exclusive franchise tag from the team, has the backing of teammate Sean Lee as he strives to get a long-term deal done with the Cowboys. 'I think we obviously know how great of a player Dak is, how great of a leader he is,' Lee said, via the Dallas Morning News. 'And what he's done for us, really carried us in a lot of ways the last couple of years. We know it's a matter of time for them to figure out contract situations like that. I think we've all been through those or had teammates go through situations like this. And there's a lot of rhetoric and there's a lot of talk in the media, but you know when you have a great player like Dak and you have an organization like the Cowboys that takes care of players, it's a matter of time.'

Footballguys view: Prescott is soon to be one of the highest paid quarterbacks in the league.
