He faces up to five years in prison if convicted, according to Heinrich.

Buccaneers | Phillips placed on IR    Tue Sep 22, 05:53 PM

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have announced they have placed FS Jermaine Phillips (thumb) on Injured Reserve, ending his 2009 season.

Footballguys view: The Tampa safeties were one of the weak spots of the defense, but this is still a big loss for the defense, because Phillips was converted to WLB during camp, and he could have moved back there after Tanard Jackson returned from a suspension in week 5.

Buccaneers | Phillips fine with going back to safety     Wed Aug 26, 05:05 PM

Charlie Campbell and Jim Flynn, of PewterReport.com, report Tampa Bay Buccaneers SS Jermaine Phillips said he is fine with switching from linebacker back to safety but needs to learn the new terminology at the safety position. 'Safety is something I've been doing for the last seven years. It's just a matter of getting the terminology down and taking some more reps and getting on the same page with the rest of the defense so we don't miss a beat. Once I get out there I'm going to do what I do and just play football. Once you think about it too much it's paralysis by analysis, and you don't want that to happen,' Phillips said.

Buccaneers | Phillips to start season at safety    Tue Aug 25, 04:16 PM

Jim Flynn, of PewterReport.com, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers LB Jermaine Phillips will start at safety at the beginning of the season because of the suspension to FS Tanard Jackson. The move is not because of the way Phillips performed as a linebacker.

Footballguys view: This could give Phillips DB eligibility in IDP leagues, so he becomes an excellent sleeper who should move up your board.

Buccaneers | Phillips could be moved back to safety    Tue Aug 18, 08:31 PM

Jim Flynn and Scott Reynolds, of PewterReport.com, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers LB Jermaine Phillips could be moved back to safety while FS Tanard Jackson is suspended.

Footballguys view: This would cement his position eligibility at DB in most leagues and make him a sneaky IDP play for the rest of the season, assuming he moves back to his new position of WLB, but it would also put a dent in Sabby Piscitelli's value out of the blocks.

Buccaneers | Crowell suffers setback    Thu Jun 11, 08:13 PM

Roy Cummings, of the Tampa Tribune, reports that LB Angelo Crowell recently had a setback in his recovery from knee surgery, which will open up the strong side linebacker job to competition in training camp.

Footballguys view: Crowell will have to battle two talented young backers in Quincy Black and Geno Hayes. Both were once thought to be possible heirs to Derrick Brooks old spot on the weak side, but that is currently occupied by converted safety Jermaine Phillips
