Bears | Chicago goes out with a whimper    Sun Jan 3, 08:04 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky completed 33-of-42 passes for 252 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in Week 17 against the Green Bay Packers, and he added 22 rushing yards. RB David Montgomery ended up with a game-high 69 yards and a score, while WR Darnell Mooney led the team with 11 receptions, 93 yards and 13 targets. Montgomery also had nine receptions for 63 yards, while TE Cole Kmet had seven catches for 41 yards on eight targets. WR Allen Robinson posted two catches for 37 yards, and WR Anthony Miller ended up with two catches for 13 yards, while TE Jimmy Graham finished with two grabs and five yards. DE Khalil Mack posted four total stops, a sack, a tackle for loss and a quarterback hit.

Footballguys view: The Bears were competitive for most of the game, but didn't have the firepower on offense or playmaking ability on defense to keep up with Aaron Rodgers. David Montgomery left briefly with a leg injury but came back in to be the engine of the offense, as he has been for the last month plus of the season. The Bears back into the playoffs and will go to New Orleans as the #7 seed next week.

Bears | David Montgomery in elite company    Fri Jan 1, 11:51 PM

Chicago Bears RB David Montgomery ranks second in the NFL in both rushing yards and rushing touchdowns since Week 12, logging 529 yards and six scores in that span.

Footballguys view: Montgomery is a natural and powerful runner who lacks the speed to threaten a defense with a big play. However, he's playing to the maximum of his potential this season and has really flourished over the last several weeks. We'll see how the team reintroduces RB Tarik Cohen to the offense in 2021 when he's fully recovered from his knee injury. With Montgomery flourishing, there's no need for the Bears to take the rock away from him that much.

Chicago Bears RB David Montgomery rushed 17 times for 72 yards and a pair of touchdowns in Week 13 against the Detroit Lions and he added four receptions for 39 yards on four targets.

Footballguys view: Montgomery was breaking tackles and running hard at the goal line to help fantasy teams, although he couldn't convert a key fourth down in the loss. He'll be a solid RB1 against the Texans next week.

  Bears | Chicago's Week 12 injury report    Fri Nov 27, 02:53 PM

Chicago Bears QB Nick Foles (hip) did not practice all week and is listed as doubtful for Week 12 against the Green Bay Packers. DT Akiem Hicks (hamstring) also did not practice all week but is listed as questionable. OT Charles Leno Jr. (toe) did not practice for a second straight day Friday, Nov. 27, and is also listed as questionable. CB Buster Skrine (ankle) was added to the injury report and limited in practice Friday; he is listed as questionable. S Sherrick McManis (hand) and OL Rashaad Coward (ankle) practiced in full Friday and are also listed as questionable. TE Jimmy Graham (rest), LB Danny Trevathan (personal), NT John Jenkins (ankle), WR Cordarrelle Patterson (calf), LB Barkevious Mingo (shoulder), RB David Montgomery (concussion), OL Sam Mustipher (knee) and QB Mitchell Trubisky (shoulder) practiced in full Friday and have been removed from the injury report.

Footballguys view: Mitchell Trubisky has some running ability to help the offense, but overall the move to him from Foles is not good for Allen Robinson (who should still remain in lineups) or Jimmy Graham.

Bears | David Montgomery ruled out    Sat Nov 14, 02:42 PM

Chicago Bears RB David Montgomery (concussion) on Saturday, Nov. 14, was ruled out of the team's Week 10 game Monday against the Minnesota Vikings.

Footballguys view: This move has been expected for some time. That means the Bears will turn to Ryan Nall and Cordarrelle Patterson in the backfield. We could see Lamar Miller get called up from the practice squad too. Nall might be the lead back but he (or Patterson) is only worth considering as a deep flex play for Fantasy GMs in Week 10.

TE Jimmy Graham (rest), DT Akiem Hicks (rest), LB Danny Trevathan (rest), DT Brent Urban (shin, thumb) and LB Josh Woods (ankle, calf) practiced in full.

Footballguys view: Montgomery needs to get back to practice tomorrow to have a good chance to play Monday night. Cordarrelle Patterson and Ryan Nall are the backups, but Lamar Miller could also get called up from the practice squad. The Bears running game is still no place to look for fantasy overachievers no matter who starts.

Chicago Bears RB David Montgomery carried the ball 10 times for 29 yards and a touchdown during the team's Week 5 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He also caught seven passes for 30 yards.

Footballguys view: Montgomery didn't find much room to run against the impenetrable Bucs run defense, but he was active as a receiver and got the Bears first rushing score of the year to put up a good PPR result in Week 5. He's a clear lead back and high floor RB2 for fantasy heading into a matchup with Carolina.

Bears | Chicago's injury report for Week 1    Fri Sep 11, 03:02 PM

Chicago Bears LB Robert Quinn (ankle) did not practice all week and has been listed as doubtful for Week 1 versus the Detroit Lions. Footballguys view: The Bears pass rush will be weakened against a Lions offensive line that will be missing their right tackle, so these issues could cancel each other out. Either way, it's still not a great week to play Matthew Stafford with Kenny Golladay out.

Bears | David Montgomery playing it safe    Thu Sep 10, 01:38 PM

Chicago Bears RB David Montgomery (groin) said Thursday, Sept. 10, he's been playing it cautious with his groin injury. 'I didn't do much in practice (Wednesday),' he said. 'I want to be safe.' Montgomery added that when the injury originally happened (Aug. 26), he feared he had 'torn something,' but there didn't turn out to be a tear.

Footballguys view: Montgomery may be able to play in Week 1. His status for the season opener looks better as his practice status was upgraded to full. He could play but the team might limit his snap count. If Montgomery is limited we could see more from Ryan Nall with Tarik Cohen still working as a pass-catching back.

Updating a previous story, Chicago Bears RB David Montgomery (groin) has the team optimistic he'll be able to play in Week 1 despite being a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Sept. 9, according to Adam Caplan of Sirius XM NFL Radio.

Bears | David Montgomery aims to get quicker    Sat Aug 22, 03:23 PM

Chicago Bears RB David Montgomery said Saturday, Aug. 22, he's focused on his diet and losing weight this offseason after he was disappointed in his quickness and speed in 2019.

Footballguys view: Montgomery correctly identified what was holding him back last year, along with some indecisiveness on his carries that exacerbated the effect of the speed/quickness deficiency. He is a healthy amount of work for his ADP and if he improves, he'll be a value as a discount RB2 in drafts.
