NFL | Jake Butt has all-around game    Sun Apr 23, 08:46 PM

Michigan TE Jake Butt was compared to retired TE Heath Miller by an AFC personnel man because of his 'all-around' game.

Footballguys view: That's an apt comparison, and his skill set is the reason why he could get drafted in the second or third round even though he's recovering from a knee injury suffered in Michigan's bowl game.

Steelers | Heath Miller retires    Fri Feb 19, 02:24 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller announced his retirement Friday, Feb. 19.

Footballguys view: Miller walks away from the game at only 33-years old. He finishes his career at the top of the Steelers all-time list of TEs with 45 touchdowns and 592 catches. In his place, we'll see 2015 fifth-round pick Jesse James get a shot to prove he can be an effective starter. Don't be surprised if the Steelers also add a TE through the draft or free agency.

Steelers | Heath Miller back in 2016?    Thu Jan 28, 11:35 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller likely will be back with the team next year, despite carrying a cap hit of $7.2 million, according to beat writer Ed Bouchette.

Footballguys view: Bouchette is the best Steelers beat writer there is, and if he says Miller will return with that big cap number we believe it. Miller is not the same player he used to be, but he's a favorite target of QB Ben Roethlisberger and may retire a Steeler. Watch to see if Jesse James gets worked more into the mix with Miller aging and slowing down.

Steelers | Heath Miller likely will play    Fri Jan 8, 06:32 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller (non-injury) fully participated in practice Friday, Jan. 8, and is listed as probable for the wild-card game against the Cincinnati Bengals Saturday, Jan. 9.

Footballguys view: Miller is a sneaky DFS play this week, but he shouldn't be that sneaky. He's got 20 catches in two games against the Bengals this year. The Steelers may not run that much without DeAngelo Williams and that means they could just go with more Roethlisberger.

Steelers | Martavis Bryant, Heath Miller practice    Thu Jan 7, 05:39 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant (neck) and TE Heath Miller (non-injury) both took part in a full practice Thursday, Jan. 7.

Footballguys view: Both Miller and Bryant represent nice value plays in daily leagues. Miller could produce nice numbers at a good price in a lackluster week for tight ends while Bryant has good upside for a reasonable fee assuming you believe Ben Roethlisberger's recent talk with him pays off. We're in that camp and love his upside.

Steelers | Heath Miller resting    Wed Jan 6, 06:30 PM

Steelers | Heath Miller probable    Fri Dec 18, 03:48 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller (rib) fully participated in practice Friday, Dec. 18, and is listed as probable for the Week 15 game against the Denver Broncos.

Footballguys view: Miller should get a ton of targets against a ferocious pass rush as Ben Roethlisberger's main checkdown. Also if there's a weakness in Denver's pass defense, it is covering the tight end.

Steelers | Heath Miller back to full practice    Thu Dec 17, 06:32 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller (rib) took part in a full practice Thursday, Dec. 17, after being held out Wednesday, Dec. 16.

Footballguys view: Miller is a sneaky play this week as most people ignore the Steelers tight end. Start him as a low-end TE1 and you will see some nice production, and in daily fantasy, get it at a low price.

Steelers | Heath Miller does not practice    Wed Dec 16, 06:34 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller (rib) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Dec. 16.

Footballguys view: Miller was able to play last week with the injury and catch 10 balls. As long as he's on the field against the Broncos and their somewhat soft defense against the tight end, Miller will be a solid TE1 play, especially in PPR leagues.

Steelers | Heath Miller targeted often recently    Mon Dec 14, 06:14 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller has been targeted 42 times over his last five games.

Footballguys view: The connection between Miller and Ben Roethlisberger is undeniable. Against the Broncos in Week 15 (a team historically weak against the tight end), Miller could have another solid day.

Steelers | Heath Miller catches 10 balls    Sun Dec 13, 07:36 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller caught all 10 of his targets for 66 yards in a 33-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 14.

Footballguys view: Miller was stationed in the short zone and available for Ben Roethlisberger all day as a safe option. Denver is coming to town next week and they had trouble defending the tight end against Oakland today.

Steelers | Heath Miller expected to play    Fri Dec 11, 04:20 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller (rib) fully participated in practice Friday, Dec. 11, and is listed as probable for the Week 14 game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Footballguys view: Good news for the Steelers and Ben Roethlisberger. However, we can only recommend Miller as a TE2 in Week 14. You likely have a better option at the position.

Steelers | Heath Miller limited    Thu Dec 10, 05:38 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller (rib) was limited during practice Thursday, Dec. 10.

Footballguys view: We'll see if he plays and if he does, we expect the ribs to limit him a bit making him a low-end TE2 against Cincinnati.

Steelers | No practice for Heath Miller    Wed Dec 9, 07:19 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller (ribs) did not practice Wednesday, Dec. 9.

Steelers | Heath Miller absent from practice    Thu Dec 3, 05:51 PM

Steelers | Heath Miller to be monitored    Tue Dec 1, 05:29 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller (ribs) will need to be monitored all week because of the rib injury he suffered in Week 12.

Footballguys view: Rib injuries largely come down to pain tolerance. Monitor Miller's practice status during the week to see if he can play this week against the Colts on Sunday Night Football.

Steelers | Heath Miller suffers rib injury    Sun Nov 29, 08:13 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller (rib) left the Week 12 game against the Seattle Seahawks due to a rib injury. He finished with five receptions for 45 yards and he was targeted six times.

Footballguys view: Miller was predictably targeted heavily early, but he never had a chance to get into the upper fantasy reaches for Week 12 because he left in the first half. Rookie Jesse James would be called on next week against the Colts if Miller can't go.

Steelers | Heath Miller on the field    Thu Nov 12, 06:46 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller (non-injury) fully participated in practice Thursday, Nov. 12.

Footballguys view: Miller is going to struggle again without Ben Roethlisberger to throw him the ball, so he drops down to a TE2/TE3.

Steelers | Three Steelers sit out of practice    Wed Nov 11, 07:21 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller (non-injury), QB Ben Roethlisberger (foot) and RB DeAngelo Williams (foot) did not practice Wednesday, Nov. 11.

Footballguys view: Williams was not expected to practice. It sounds like he'll play this week but we'll be monitoring the practice reports to make sure he's good to go. If not, Jordan Todman could be a nice play against a porous Browns run defense.

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller (non-injury) fully participated in practice Friday, Nov. 6, and is listed as probable for the Week 9 game against the Oakland Raiders.

Footballguys view: Start your tight ends against the Raiders! With Roethlisberger back we feel comfortable with Miller as a TE1 for fantasy owners.

Steelers | Heath Miller back at practice    Thu Nov 5, 07:40 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller (non-injury) fully participated in practice Thursday, Nov. 5.

Footballguys view: With Ben Roethlisberger back under center, Miller could be a big part of the offense again and we expect low-end TE1 numbers this week against Oakland, who has allowed some big games to tight ends.

Steelers | Heath Miller resting Wednesday    Wed Nov 4, 06:44 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller (non-injury) took the day off of practice Wednesday, Nov. 4.

Footballguys view: With Ben Roethlisberger back and Le'Veon Bell out, there will be a lot of passes and Heath Miller could become fantasy relevant again. We could see him as a borderline TE1/TE2 in a game which could see the Raiders score a bunch and the Steelers throw to catch back up.

Steelers | Heath Miller busy in Week 8    Sun Nov 1, 09:21 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller had 10 catches on 13 targets for 105 yards in a 16-10 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 8.

Footballguys view: Miller is back now that Ben Roethlisberger is back. The Raiders have been a great matchup for tight ends and they are up next for the Steelers.

Steelers | Heath Miller to be more involved?    Sat Oct 31, 01:12 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller could be more involved in the offense as players and coaches have spoken openly about doing so.

Footballguys view: With Ben Roethlisberger back in action, it's a boost for the entire offense. Miller is one of Roethlisberger's favorite targets, and we could see an uptick in production from the veteran. We like Miller as a high-end TE2 with his quarterback back.

Steelers | Heath Miller should play    Fri Oct 30, 03:57 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller (non-injury) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 30, and is listed as probable for the Week 8 game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Footballguys view: If Miller is going to muster any fantasy at this late juncture in his career, the return of Ben Roethlisberger at least gives him an outside shot.

Steelers | Heath Miller has full practice    Thu Oct 29, 06:49 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller (non-injury) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Oct. 29.

Footballguys view: Miller has been a non-factor with Ben Roethlisberger out, but his return should help. That said, we'll believe it when we see it, so don't trot him out there yet and if you have to, expect no more than TE3 numbers.

Steelers | Heath Miller sits out    Wed Oct 28, 04:52 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller (non-injury) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 28.

Footballguys view: Miller has been disappointing this season, in part because Ben Roethlisberger has been hurt. If his quarterback returns, we could see Miller back in the TE2 range but right now, he's no more than a TE3.

Steelers | Heath Miller not much of a factor    Wed Oct 28, 12:12 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller has just one catch for five yards in the last two weeks, and the Steelers want to find ways to get him going. The absence of QB Ben Roethlisberger (knee) has hurt Miller, but Pittsburgh has also increased Miller's blocking duties lately.

Footballguys view: Miller is often a nice streaming choice at tight end, but this year has been a disappointing one ever since Ben Roethlisberger went out. We'd chance him as no more than a TE3 this week against Cincinnati.

Steelers | Heath Miller has three receptions    Tue Oct 13, 01:14 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller posted three catches for 46 yards in the Week 5 game against the San Diego Chargers Monday, Oct. 12.

Footballguys view: Miller almost scored a touchdown there at the end. That play set up the game-winning run by RB Le'Veon Bell. Miller is a TE2 for fantasy owners.

Steelers | Heath Miller likely to be quiet    Thu Oct 1, 12:21 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller will face the Baltimore Ravens Thursday, Oct. 1, in a Week 4 matchup. Miller is without starting QB Ben Roethlisberger (knee) and he will face a Ravens defense which has yielded just seven receptions and 30 yards against opposing tight ends through three games.

Footballguys view: Outside of LeVeon Bell and Antonio Brown, we're cool on the Steelers offense until we know more about how Michael Vick is going to look at quarterback.

Steelers | PIT restructures contracts    Tue Sep 1, 02:13 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown, TE Heath Miller and PK Shaun Suisham all had their contracts restructured Tuesday, Sept. 1. The restructuring created about $6 million in salary cap space for the Steelers, according to sources.

Footballguys view: The Steelers are thinking about what they might need down the road, and it speaks highly of all three guys that they would restructure to help a greater cause. Specifically Brown, who could say no, then one day walk off to a big contract elsewhere. Brown is the cream of the crop in fantasy, a top WR1 and arguably the first receiver off the board. Miller is a solid, and oftentimes overlooked TE2.

Steelers | PIT regulars sitting out this weekend    Fri Aug 7, 02:42 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger, RB Le'Veon Bell, WR Antonio Brown, TE Heath Miller, C Maurkice Pouncey and LB James Harrison will all sit out for the team's Hall of Fame Game against the Minnesota Vikings this weekend. The Steelers will be extra cautious with an extra preseason game on their schedule this year. Backup QB Landry Jones will receive significant snaps in the game.

Footballguys view: We love that football is back, but long-time NFL fans know the Hall of Fame Game is usually just bad football. We'll see if Jones can make an impression with a featured role.

Steelers | Heath Miller listed as probable    Fri Jan 2, 02:22 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller (non-injury) fully participated in practice Friday, Jan. 2, and is listed as probable for the Wild Card playoff game.

Footballguys view: The Steelers are going to have to lean heavily on the passing game with star RB Le'Veon Bell (knee) out. Miller is a favorite of QB Ben Roethlisberger, and he makes for an interesting selection for those playing daily fantasy football during the playoffs.

Steelers | Heath Miller takes part in practice    Thu Jan 1, 04:01 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller (non-injury) fully participated in practice Thursday, Jan. 1.

Footballguys view: Miller is the type of fantasy tight end who always sneaks up on folks during the season. Given how much we expect Ben Roethlisberger to throw with Le'Veon Bell probably out, he should see a fair amount of work. We can see him as topping 50 yards, and a receiving touchdowns might be in the cards as well.
