San Francisco 49ers TE Vance McDonald is not projected to start by beat writer Grant Cohn, citing the fact TE Garrett Celek is better at catching passes in traffic. FB/TE Bruce Miller is also in the mix, and expected to be ahead of McDonald as the 'move' tight end.
Footballguys view: None of these tight ends seem all that fantasy worthy and not having a clear "go to" guy makes it hard to recommend any of them as fantasy players to put on your roster. Celek was ahead of McDonald last season while Miller is being touted as one of the better players on the offense. Celek is, at best a TE3 or TE4 but it's hard to make a strong case for any of them being on your roster. |

San Francisco 49ers FB Bruce Miller is learning the nuances of the tight end position, but he has good hands and can also help out on special teams. He might be used the No. 3 tight end behind TEs Garrett Celek and Vance McDonald.
Footballguys view: We don't expect much more than blocking from the tight ends, so even adding Miller makes no real difference. |

San Francisco 49ers TE Bruce Miller has been lining up at tight end and receiver at times, head coach Chip Kelly said. Miller said he has lost some weight for his new role and has been studying Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten to improve his route running.
Footballguys view: There are very few things about this Kelly/49ers marriage that get us excited for fantasy owners. Miller playing TE or WR certainly doesn't get the juices flowing either. |

San Francisco 49ers FB Bruce Miller has switched exclusively to tight end this offseason after running backs coach Tom Rathman informed Miller that he longer had room for another back.
Footballguys view: There's not really a place for a fullback in Chip Kelly's offense. We'll see how Miller makes the transition to the TE position. As a tight end, Miller will compete with guys like Vance McDonald, Garrett Celek and Blake Bell (a deep dynasty favorite of ours). |

San Francisco 49ers RB LaMichael James could have trouble making the roster this year, according to ESPN.com's Bill Williamson. Williamson believes RB Frank Gore, RB Carlos Hyde, RB Marcus Lattimore, RB Kendall Hunter and FB Bruce Miller will make the roster.
Footballguys view: James could make the team based on his return ability. He's not going to get many carries if he makes the final roster, but James could catch a few passes as a change-of-pace back. |

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick had one of his worst games as an NFL player the first time the 49ers played the Carolina Panthers. In that game, he completed 11 of 22 passes for 91 yards and no touchdowns. The Panthers also sacked Kaepernick six times and intercepted one of his passes. Kaepernick completed passes to six receivers against the Panthers. However, three of those players aren't on the roster or are out for the season -- WR Mario Manningham, WR Kyle Williams and WR Bruce Miller.
Footballguys view: The return of Michael Crabtree could very well prove to be the difference here. He's Kaepernick's favorite receiver, and should be able to get open regularly against the Panthers secondary. |

The San Francisco 49ers do not play until Monday, Dec. 23, in Week 16 against the Atlanta Falcons, so there is no rush to fill the void at the fullback position with FB Bruce Miller (shoulder) done for the season. One option might be free-agent DL/FB Will Tukuafu (49ers), who was released from the team earlier this year. A source close to the situation confirmed Tukuafu worked out for the team Tuesday, Dec. 17.

San Francisco 49ers FB Bruce Miller (shoulder) is likely to miss the rest of the regular season and playoffs after injuring his left shoulder in Week 15. 'It doesn't look good. It looks like he has an injury to his scapula,' head coach Jim Harbaugh said. 'He does so many things in the protection, in the run game, receiving out of the back field. He is a multitalented, multi-use player. Special teams contributor on two, three phases. It's a loss.'
Footballguys view: The 49ers are expected to re-sign FB Owen Marecic to fill Miller's shoes. Anthony Dixon could also be used at fullback. |

He did not have X-rays after the game due to swelling, and he was wearing a sling. However, Miller is confident it isn't a serious injury. 'We'll take a closer look at it, but it's just a stinger,' Miller said. 'Just the soreness, it feels like it (the pain) is all over.'
