Panthers | Christian McCaffrey unlikely for Week 7    Tue Oct 20, 03:55 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey (ankle) isn't expected to play in Week 7 against the New Orleans Saints, but he 'has a shot' to play in Week 8 versus the Atlanta Falcons, according to NFL Network's Mike Garofolo.

Footballguys view: The Panthers don't really know when McCaffrey will be back. He's getting closer and we should have a better idea about his status next week.

Panthers | Christian McCaffrey still with no set timetable?    Mon Oct 19, 02:33 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey (ankle) has missed four games with a high-ankle sprain, and head coach Matt Rhule told reporters Monday, Oct. 19, that he's not sure if McCaffrey will return in Week 7, Week 8 or Week 9.

Footballguys view: The Panthers have no idea when McCaffrey is going to be back but we can say they aren't rushing him back. Mike Davis has been the fill in with McCaffrey out and he's got RB1 potential for Fantasy GMs each week.

Panthers | Christian McCaffrey to miss two more games?    Fri Oct 16, 02:16 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey (ankle) was not activated from the Reserve/Injured list this week and 'it seems unlikely' he will be ready for Week 7 against the New Orleans Saints, according to ESPN.com's David Newton, who suggests Week 8 is a more realistic time for his return.

Footballguys view: Mike Davis teams will get at least two more weeks of his RB1 production. He very likely will end up being the most valuable waiver wire running back, if not player at any position, of the year.

Panthers | Christian McCaffrey unlikely to go in Week 6?    Mon Oct 12, 01:10 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey (ankle) is technically eligible to come off the Reserve/Injured list this week, but The Associated Press' Steve Reed believes there is very little chance he will be ready to play against the Chicago Bears in Week 6.

Footballguys view: The Panthers are on a winning streak without McCaffrey which is an amazing feat. The team won't rush their superstar running back as he continues to heal from this ankle injury. Mike Davis will continue as their lead back while McCaffrey is out.

Panthers | Christian McCaffrey doing well    Mon Oct 5, 01:25 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey (ankle) still has a week left before he is eligible to come off the Reserve/Injured list, but head coach Matt Rhule told reporters Monday, Oct. 5, that his running back is 'attacking rehab every day.'

Footballguys view: That's good news for the superstar running back. Let's wait and see what things look like when McCaffrey is able to return. It looks like he's trending in the right direction. He could be active for Carolina's Week 6 game against the Bears.

Panthers | Christian McCaffrey to IR    Wed Sep 23, 12:08 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey (ankle) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Wednesday, Sept. 23.

Footballguys view: Reports indicated McCaffrey was given a 4-6 week timetable, so going to Injured Reserve is not a surprise. McCaffrey will be out at least three games with this designation. The Panthers turn to Mike Davis as their lead back and Fantasy GMs can consider him a RB3 or flex option.

Panthers | Christian McCaffrey out 4-6 weeks    Mon Sep 21, 12:43 PM

Updating previous reports, Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey (ankle) will miss four to six weeks with a high ankle sprain, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Fantasy GMs are screaming at the sky with all these injuries. This high-ankle sprain for McCaffrey could linger if they don't shut him down and let it heal properly. It's going to take some time to heal, and in the meantime the Panthers move on without their superstar.Veteran Mike Davis will fill the role as the Panthers starter while McCaffrey is down. Trenton Cannon will work as the team's no.2 running back behind Davis.

Panthers | Christian McCaffrey scheduled for MRI    Sun Sep 20, 06:31 PM

Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey (ankle) is scheduled to have an MRI Monday, Sept. 21 after leaving the Week 2 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The initial hope is that it isn't a serious injury.

Footballguys view: McCaffrey would face the Chargers next week if he can go. Mike Davis was very productive as a receiver after McCaffrey went out and he might have some value in PPR leagues.

Panthers | Christian McCaffrey suffers injury    Sun Sep 20, 03:56 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey (ankle) suffered an ankle injury during the Week 2 game and is considered questionable to return.

Footballguys view: Mike Davis gobbled up targets in McCaffrey's absence, but he'll still just be a flex play if he starts against the Chargers tough defense next week.

Panthers | Christian McCaffrey just misses 100 yards    Sun Sep 13, 06:14 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey rushed 23 times for 96 yards and two touchdowns in Week 1 against the Las Vegas Raiders and he added three grabs for 38 yards on four targets.

Footballguys view: McCaffrey wasn't heavily involved as a receiver, but his two rushing scores still made for a big day. You'd like to see him get more targets, but McCaffrey looks every bit the player he was last year and worth the #1 pick.

Panthers | Mike Davis may be top backup in Carolina    Thu Jul 23, 10:33 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Mike Davis 'might have the edge' over Reggie Bonnafon and Jordan Scarlett as the direct backup for Christian McCaffrey, according to ESPN's David Newton.

Footballguys view: The Panthers will replace McCaffrey with some sort of committee if the starter goes down, so there's not a clear handcuff here. Davis is the most accomplished NFL back, Bonnafon might be the most dynamic, while Scarlett is the best downhill runner.

Panthers | Christian McCaffrey will see plenty of work    Thu Jun 18, 07:51 PM

Panthers | Christian McCaffrey rarely came off field    Sun Jun 14, 02:17 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey was on the field for 93.4 percent of the offensive snaps in 2019.

Footballguys view: McCaffrey probably won't be on the field that much this year, but he should still lead running backs in snaps. It would be good to know his handcuff but that's not clear right now. Jordan Scarlett, Reggie Bonnafon, and Mike Davis are the top candidates in this camp battle to watch.

Panthers | Christian McCaffrey got it done after catch    Mon May 25, 10:08 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey amassed 1,009 yards after the catch in 2019 - 43 more than second-place Austin Ekeler (966) and 137 more than any other back since at least 2015, according to Sports Info Solutions.

Footballguys view: McCaffrey was the third back to be part of the 1,000/1,000 club in NFL history. He joined Roger Craig (49ers) and Marshall Faulk (Rams) to rush for over 1,000 yards and go over 1,000 yards receiving in the same season. A large part of his game is about making defenders miss. He could reach similar numbers in 2020.

Panthers | Christian McCaffrey extension financials    Thu Apr 16, 10:26 PM

Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey's four-year contract extension worth just over $64 million includes $30.0625 million fully guaranteed at signing, according to a source. His 2020 base salary will be $825,000 (fully guaranteed), followed by base salaries of $8.0375 million in 2021, $8.4 million in 2022, $11.8 million in 2023, $11.8 million in 2024 and $12 million in 2025.

Footballguys view: Some have suggested the team will reduce McCaffrey's workload ever so slightly to keep him fresh. Even if that's the case, McCaffrey is still the best player on their offense and a top-tier RB1 for Fantasy GMs in 2020.

Panthers | Christian McCaffrey on historic pace    Thu Apr 16, 08:50 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey has gained 5,443 yards from scrimmage through his age-23 season to rank first all-time among players through that age. Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott (5th) and Atlanta Falcons RB Todd Gurley (7th) are the only other active players from the top 10.

Footballguys view: McCaffrey is one of the best running backs most have ever seen in the NFL. He's off to a great start with his career and if he can keep it up then the skies the limit for a talent like him. With his new contract in hand, McCaffrey will be the centerpiece for the Panthers offense under new head coach Matt Rhule.

Panthers | Fewer snaps in store for Christian McCaffrey?    Tue Apr 14, 09:10 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey will still remain 'a featured piece' in the team's offense in 2020, but head coach Matt Rhule recently told The Athletic's Jourdan Rodrigue that 'effectively using McCaffrey as a weapon does not mean leaving him on the field the entire game.'

Footballguys view: McCaffrey recorded over 1,000 yards rushing and over 1,000 yards receiving last year, and even with a new offense he could still perform at a similar level this season. We'll see if the Panthers try to get him a breather more often while still featuring him more than most any other running back in the league.

Panthers | Christian McCaffrey got good blocking in 2019    Mon Apr 13, 11:18 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey recorded a league-high 874 yards rushing before contact in 2019.

Footballguys view: McCaffrey had some good holes to run through, and he made the most of it. He ended up as only the third player in NFL history in the 1,000/1,000 club and could post similar numbers in the new-look Panthers offense.

Panthers | Christian McCaffrey agrees to extension    Mon Apr 13, 04:16 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey agreed to terms on a four-year contract extension with the Panthers Monday, April 13, worth $64 million, according to a source.

Footballguys view: McCaffrey is now the highest-paid running back in the league. This move is bold, especially when other high-priced running backs are not working out for their teams -- or former teams -- but McCaffrey is more than just a running back. As only the third member of the 1,000/1,000 club in NFL history, McCaffrey is dangerous no matter how he touches the ball. The Panthers have a new coaching staff and quarterback in place for the 2020 season, but McCaffrey should be just as important as ever before moving forward.

Panthers | Christian McCaffrey a reception machine    Sat Apr 11, 10:40 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey's 303 receptions in his first three seasons are the second most in league history.

Footballguys view: McCaffrey has a new coaching staff around him in 2020, but he should still be catching a ton of passes this season. He's only the third member of the 1,000/1,000 club as he rushed for over 1,000 yards and had over 1,000 yards receiving last season. McCaffrey's numbers should be similar this season, making him a top-tier RB1 for Fantasy GMs.

Panthers | Christian McCaffrey an extension candidate    Mon Apr 6, 03:35 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey could be a candidate for a contract extension in the near future, according to general manager Marty Hurney.

Footballguys view: Oh what a deal McCaffrey is going to get! Only the third member of the 1,000/1,000 club, McCaffrey is proven as a dangerous runner and receiver at the pro level. A first-round pick in the 2017 NFL draft, McCaffrey is in line for another 1,000 yards rushing and 100-catch season in 2020.

  Panthers | Christian McCaffrey a 2-position All-Pro    Fri Jan 3, 12:25 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey was voted a first-team Associated Press All-Pro at two positions: Running back and the relatively new offensive flex position.

Footballguys view: McCaffrey is only the third player in the NFL history (Roger Craig, Marshall Faulk) to be part of the 1,000/1,000 club. He is dangerous as a runner and receiver, so getting All-Pro at two positions is quite fitting.

Panthers | Week 17 final stats for Panthers    Sun Dec 29, 04:32 PM

Carolina Panthers QB Kyle Allen completed 25-of-41 passes for 295 yards, no touchdowns and one interception, while RB Christian McCaffrey rushed nine times for 26 yards and a touchdown while adding seven grabs for 72 yards on 10 targets. He became the third player in NFL history to post 1,000 rushing and 1,000 receiving yards in a single season. WR Brandon Zylstra stepped up with a team-high 96 receiving yards on six grabs across eight targets. WR Curtis Samuel finished up with two grabs for 13 yards, and TE Greg Olsen was limited to two catches for 12 yards.

Footballguys view: Allen decisively showed he is not the quarterback of the future for this team, but they needed him with rookie Will Grier hurt today. McCaffrey's milestone joins Roger Craig and Marshall Faulk and he'll be a unanimous #1 pick next year. Olsen has a retirement decision this offseason with Ryan Tannehill waiting in the wings.

Panthers | Christian McCaffrey in line for big day?    Sat Dec 28, 08:28 AM

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey is likely to receive the ball 'any way he can' in Week 17's game against the New Orleans Saints, according to interim offensive coordinator Scott Turner. McCaffrey is just 67 yards shy of becoming the third player in league history to reach 1,000 rushing yards and 1,000 receiving yards in the same season.

Footballguys view: Only Roger Craig and Marshall Faulk are in the 1,000/1,000 club. McCaffrey has always had the talent to reach that mark as well, and he's only 67 receiving yards away from doing that. We imagine the Panthers will feed him as much as possible in the season finale.

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey rushed 13 times for 54 yards in Week 16 against the Indianapolis Colts while racking up 15 receptions for 119 yards on 15 targets.

Footballguys view: McCaffrey in the final three for fantasy MVP with Michael Thomas and Lamar Jackson, although he cost the most. He'll be the unanimous #1 pick next year as we watch to see who the Panthers will start at quarterback Week 1. It can't be worse than this year.
