Ravens | Officially cut Vonta Leach, Jameel McClain    Thu Feb 27, 04:38 PM

The Baltimore Ravens officially released FB Vonta Leach and LB Jameel McClain Thursday, Feb. 227.

Footballguys view: Leach was part of a monumentally bad backfield and cost too much for that, while McClain's production(hampered by injury to start the year) didn't equal what they were paying him either. Both should find some interest once the initial free agency frenzy dies down.

Ravens | Vonta Leach could return    Wed Jan 29, 01:06 PM

Baltimore Ravens FB Vonta Leach could return with the team because he has played for offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak when they were both with the Houston Texans. Leach was considered a possible salary cap casualty because he is scheduled to have a $2.33 million salary cap figure.

Footballguys view: The Ravens had a lot of problems in the ground game last year and Leach didn't really play up to his price tag. He still can be a help to the offense, it just needs to be for a more reasonable price.

Ravens | Using more three-WR sets    Thu Nov 7, 02:32 PM

The Baltimore Ravens have used three-wide receiver sets more this year than last, when they used the formation on 43 percent of their snaps in 2012. They've used three receivers even more in the last two games, too. The Ravens have used three-wide sets on 63.6 percent of their offensive plays this season. FB Vonta Leach has suffered, as he's seen just 14 snaps in the last two contests. They're using two running backs on only 17.9 percent of their plays this year, compared to 40 percent last season. Three-receiver sets are likely to continue to remain a big part of the team's game plan on a week-to-week basis.

Footballguys view: This could mean a little more opportunity for Marlon Brown and Deonte Thompson but you can only really trust Brown in your lineup right now and really no more than a WR3 or flex until we see this plan actually work.

Ravens | Vonta Leach signed    Mon Jul 29, 05:40 PM

The Baltimore Ravens have re-signed free-agent FB Vonta Leach to a two-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Leach is one of the best blocking fullbacks in the game today. He'll be able to continue blasting open holes for both Ray Rice and Bernard Pierce. This move allows Kyle Juszczyk to play more of an H-back role where he can help fill the gap left by injured TE Dennis Pitta.

Ravens | Remain in talks with Vonta Leach    Sat Jul 27, 03:24 PM

The Baltimore Ravens remain in contract talks with free-agent FB Vonta Leach, and they remain the front runners to re-sign him.

Footballguys view: Going back to the Ravens may be the best bet for Leach. The Dolphins still might have interest in the veteran fullback too. Leach is a devastating lead blocker and will improve any ground game he's added to.

Ravens | HC acknowledges interest in Vonta Leach    Fri Jul 26, 09:33 PM

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said Friday, July 26, that the team is still talking to free-agent FB Vonta Leach (Ravens), but there has been no new developments on that front. 'We're looking at some of our guys and we're seeing where we're at with our roster right now,' Harbaugh said. 'I believe (general manager Ozzie Newsome) and Vonta are still talking.'

Footballguys view: Leach is a seasoned veteran and still one of the best blocking fullbacks in the game today. The Dolphins and Ravens seem to be the team's most interested. Leach is looking for a multi-year deal but teams may want him to only sign a one-year contract.

Ravens | Vonta Leach leaning toward return    Thu Jul 25, 10:34 PM

Free-agent FB Vonta Leach (Ravens) is expected to sign with a team Friday, July 26, and appears to be leaning toward re-signing with the Baltimore Ravens.

Footballguys view: This would be good news for Ray Rice and Bernard Pierce, but not enough to change their ranking. Other teams like the Dolphins were in the mix, so it might represent a missed opportunity for someone like Lamar Miller to get a better lead blocker.

Free-agent FB Vonta Leach (Ravens) has spent the last few days huddling up with his agents, and a decision on where he'll sign is expected soon.

Dolphins | No negotiations with Vonta Leach    Fri Jul 12, 02:06 PM

The Miami Dolphins have not had any negotiations with free agent FB Vonta Leach (Ravens).

Footballguys view: The Dolphins were considered the favorite to land Leach but all has been quiet for the last week or so. We'll see if the team makes a move for the veteran before the start of training camp. We love the upside of Lamar Miller but will be even more excited about his prospects if Leach is added to blast open holes in front of him.

Giants | Remain interested in Vonta Leach    Wed Jul 10, 03:26 PM

Free-agent FB Vonta Leach (Ravens) is willing to keep waiting to see if another team will give him a large contract. Footballguys view: Leach is a seasoned veteran and should find a home before the start of training camp. We love the way that he blasts open holes as a blocker and Leach is one of the best at his position. He'll improve the ground game for any team that he joins.

Free-agent FB Vonta Leach's (Ravens) agent said Cleveland Browns general manager Michael Lombardi called to check in about Leach's availability but never set up a visit.

Footballguys view: Leach is expected to make a decision on his future next week. It looks like the Browns won't be part of that equation. Teams like the Dolphins, Texans, Giants, and Ravens have shown interest in the veteran fullback. Most feel the Dolphins will be the team that lands Leach.

Ralph Vitolo, agent for free-agent FB Vonta Leach (Ravens), said he has not had any recent contract talks with the Kansas City Chiefs, but there has been mutual interest.

Footballguys view: Leach may make a decision on where to play in 2013 this next week. Several teams are showing interest in the veteran Fullback. Many think the Dolphins are the favorite to land Leach.

NFL | More on Vonta Leach     Thu Jun 27, 04:23 PM

Updating a previous report, the agent for free agent FB Vonta Leach said he still believes the Miami Dolphins are the best for his client. 'To me Miami is the best fit because of their needs and their availability of [salary] cap room,' the agent said. 'I think the best overall fit is Miami, but who knows.

Footballguys view: A decision is supposed to be made next week. We'd be shocked if it wasn't the Dolphins who get Leach. Adding Leach would bump up Lamar Miller's fantasy stock. Miller's current ADP is RB21 and he's coming off the board around 3.09 in 12 team fantasy leagues.

NFL | Five teams in the mix for Vonta Leach    Thu Jun 27, 03:40 PM

Up to five teams are still in the running for free agent FB Vonta Leach, including the Houston Texans, the Miami Dolphins, the New York Giants, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Baltimore Ravens. 'Nobody has been excluded,' agent Ralph Vitolo said. 'You have to put Miami, Houston and the Giants in the first three.

Footballguys view: Leach has been in no rush to find a new home, but will likely be on a roster by the start of training camp. Reports have the Dolphins as the favorite to land the veteran Fullback.

NFL | Vonta Leach expected to sign next week    Thu Jun 27, 02:07 PM

Free-agent FB Vonta Leach (Ravens) is expected to sign with a team next week. The Miami Dolphins appear to still be the favorite because they have the most salary cap space, but the New York Giants, Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans are still showing interest.

Footballguys view: Most feel the Dolphins will be the team that adds Leach. He's a great lead blocker and would boost the ground game for any team he's added on.

Dolphins | Continue to talk with Vonta Leach    Wed Jun 26, 04:50 PM

The Miami Dolphins continued contract talks with free-agent FB Vonta Leach (Ravens) Wednesday, June 26.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins lack a lead-blocking fullback, with FB/TE 'tweeners Charles Clay and Evan Rodriguez on the roster at the position right now. The addition of Leach would be great news for a Lamar Miller hype train that is picking up enough steam to get him into the third round of some drafts.

Dolphins | Remain frontrunners for Vonta Leach    Tue Jun 25, 11:52 PM

The agent for free-agent FB Vonta Leach (Ravens) said Tuesday, June 25, that the Miami Dolphins remain the frontrunner for Leach's services, but he might take one more visit elsewhere, presumably with the New York Giants. '(Miami's) the right place to be. We're trying to crunch numbers,' Leach's agent said.

Footballguys view: Leach is one of the best in the game at his position. He can blast open holes and would boost the prospects for RB Lamar Miller if the Dolphins add him. The Dolphins like to use Miller in the I-formation or offset I-formation and the interest in Leach makes a lot of sense.

NFL | More on Vonta Leach    Mon Jun 24, 08:32 PM

It would be a major upset if free-agent FB Vonta Leach (Ravens) were to sign anywhere other than the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins have too much interest in him for him to sign elsewhere.

Footballguys view: Adding Leach would be big for the Dolphins' ground game. Leach is a quality player who can blast open the holes for the RB behind him. Lamar Miller hasn't yet been officially named the starter but he ran with the second-team exactly zero times this offseason.

Ravens | Still in mix for Vonta Leach    Mon Jun 24, 06:26 PM

Ralph Vitolo, agent for free-agent FB Vonta Leach (Ravens), said Leach has not ruled out the possibility of re-signing with the Baltimore Ravens.

Footballguys view: Leach was released when by the Ravens when the two sides couldn't come to terms on reducing his $3MM salary in 2013. The Ravens have already made him an offer -- reportedly $2MM plus incentives -- and staying in Baltimore could be his best bet. The Texans, Dolphins, and Giants have all shown interest in Leach as well.

Free-agent FB Vonta Leach (Ravens) said during a radio interview that he is not in a hurry to sign with a team because teams will not start practicing until next month.

Footballguys view: Leach is still a quality Fullback who can blast open holes for any ground game he's added to. Teams like the Texans, Dolphins, Giants, and Ravens have shown interest in the veteran. We could see Leach added to a roster when we get closer to training camp.

The Miami Dolphins are considered the frontrunners, with the Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans are also in contention. The Ravens reportedly offered Leach a contract worth $2 million and loaded with incentives. However, those close to Leach do not believe those incentives were realistic for him to reach.

The Miami Dolphins are still considered the leading candidate to sign free-agent FB Vonta Leach (Dolphins) this offseason.

Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin is believed to want the team to reach a contract agreement with free-agent FB Vonta Leach (Ravens) by the end of the week.

Footballguys view: Signing Leach would be a strong move for the Dolphins. The veteran fullback is one of the best in the game and can blast open holes for the RB behind him. If the Dolphins add Leach it would be a boost for second-year RB Lamar Miller. We should see Miller officially named as the starter in training camp.

The Texans and Ravens running games have flourished with Leach leading the way, so the addition of Leach would be just another reason to target Charles in the first round this year.

Texans | Vonta Leach prefers team    Tue Jun 18, 08:19 AM

Free-agent RB Vonta Leach (Ravens) said he'll decide on a new team within two weeks, but he prefers to sign with the Houston Texans.

Footballguys view: The Texans already have lead-blocking jackhammer Greg Jones, so there might not be a spot for Leach. Either way, Arian Foster's outlook can't be hurt by the change back to a true lead-blocking fullback from last year's starter, James Casey. Casey is a versatile tight end/H-back/fullback tweener who will fit well as a "tazer" in Chip Kelly's offense.
