Packers | Aaron Jones staying with Packers    Sun Mar 14, 04:13 PM

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones agreed to terms on a four-year contract with the Packers Sunday, March 14, worth $48 million. The deal includes a $13 million signing bonus.

Footballguys view: The Packers with a move that will shock some. Jones was supposed to hit the open market but the Packers decided to make him an offer that was good enough for him to stick around. He'll be the lead back once again with second-year pro A.J. Dillon working into the rotation.

Packers | Green Bay wants to keep Aaron Jones    Sun Mar 14, 02:23 PM

Green Bay Packers impending free-agent RB Aaron Jones is a player the Packers want to re-sign, but one of the issues appears to be the Packers are not willing to pay Jones like one of the top running backs in the NFL, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Packers | Aaron Jones avoids tag    Tue Mar 9, 04:06 PM

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones did not receive the franchise tag designation Tuesday, March 9, and is set to become a free agent.

Footballguys view: Jones is unlikely to return as he should have a red-hot market for his services. The Packers are likely to lose Jamaal Williams to free agency as well. That leaves 2020 second-round pick A.J. Dillon as their lead back for 2021.

Packers | Aaron Jones could get franchise tag    Tue Mar 2, 06:17 PM

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones will receive the franchise tag for the 2021 season, according to general manager Brian Gutekunst, if it's what's best for the team. Gutekunst says there are 'usually better ways to avoid it.'

Footballguys view: The team may not be able to come to an agreement with Jones before the start of the new league year in two weeks. That means the tag could be put in place which would give them a one-year deal with the veteran running back, but most importantly it would give them more time to work out a contract. Any tagged player has until mid-July to get something done. Expect Jones to have plenty of interest (Dolphins?) if the Packers let him hit the open market.

Dolphins | Miami, Aaron Jones have mutual interest    Wed Feb 24, 12:23 AM

Impending free-agent RB Aaron Jones (Packers) reportedly has the Miami Dolphins among the teams he is willing to consider in free agency, and a league source confirms the team is also interested in signing Jones, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

Footballguys view: Jones is arguably the best running back who is coming up in free agency. The Dolphins need a quality rushing attack to complement QB Tua Tagovailoa, and Jones could be that guy. We'll see if Miami is willing to pay the hefty price tag that Jones could get on the open market in a couple of weeks.

Dolphins | Aaron Jones an option for Miami?    Mon Feb 8, 03:43 PM

Green Bay Packers impending free-agent RB Aaron Jones would be open to signing with the Miami Dolphins if he does not return to the Packers, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Jones is set to hit free agency, and the Packers may not be able to afford him. We should see Jones get plenty of interest on the open market. The Dolphins could use a player like him to carry the load in the backfield.

Packers | Green Bay hoping for Aaron Jones' return    Mon Feb 1, 02:17 PM

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones is 'absolutely everything we want in a professional football player,' according to general manager Brian Gutekunst, who expressed the team's desire to get a deal done with Jones on Monday, Feb. 1, before he hits free agency this spring.

Footballguys view: Jones is set to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason. The Packers added A.J. Dillon in the second round of the 2020 NFL draft, and he could be seen as the lead back of the future. Jamaal Williams is set to be an unrestricted free agent when the new league year begins also. If Jones' price gets too high, the Packers could have a Dillon-led backfield in 2021.

Packers | Green Bay falls in NFC title game    Sun Jan 24, 06:24 PM

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers completed 33-of-48 passes for 346 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in the NFC Championship Game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. RB Aaron Jones, who left the game early due to injury, left the team with 27 yards on six rushes. RB Jamaal Williams ran seven times for 23 yards and added four receptions for 22 yards. WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling led the way with a game-high 115 yards on four receptions and a score, while WR Davante Adams had nine grabs for 67 yards and a score on 15 targets. WR Allen Lazard checked in with three receptions for 62 yards, while TE Marcedes Lewis had three grabs for 28 yards. TE Robert Tonyan also checked in with four grabs, 22 yards and a score. CB Jaire Alexander led the way with two interceptions, while totaling three total tackles and three passes defensed.

Footballguys view: Rodgers had a lot of chances to take control of this game in the second half after his team fell behind 18 points, but the Packers offense wasn't good enough in the red zone and Matt LaFleur chose to kick a field goal instead of going for it on fourth and goal at the 8, down 8 with about two minutes left. Jones has probably played his last down as a Packer, and Williams is also a free agent. Valdes-Scantling had a big game after playing only one snap the NFC title game last year. Adams impact on the game was not as big as expected and if anything Rodgers overreliance on him in the red zone hurt the team. The Packers will go back to the drawing board after getting one game from the Super Bowl two years in a row.

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones (chest) suffered a chest injury during the NFC Championship game and is considered questionable to return.

Packers | Green Bay locks up No. 1 seed in NFC    Sun Jan 3, 08:00 PM

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers completed 19-of-24 passes for 240 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 17 against the Chicago Bears, as the team locked up the top seed, a bye and home-field advantage in the NFC playoffs. RB Aaron Jones went for 42 yards and a touchdown on 11 runs, while adding 43 yards on four grabs. RB Jamaal Williams posted 26 yards on five runs while WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling posted a team-high 87 yards and a score on two receptions. WR Davante Adams posted six receptions for 46 yards and a score, while TE Robert Tonyan had two catches and 18 yards with a score. WR Allen Lazard ended up with two catches for 17 yards, and TE Dominique Dafney had his first-career touchdown on a 13-yard second-half score.

Footballguys view: Rodgers capped off what should be an MVP season with a nearly flawless performance to give his team the #1 seed. The Packers will try to do better than 2019, when they were thumped by the 49ers on the road in the NFC Championship game.

Packers | Pessimism on Aaron Jones    Tue Nov 3, 11:48 AM

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones' (calf) status for Thursday, Nov. 5, is pessimistic, according to sources.

Footballguys view: It's a short week for the Packers as they play on Thursday against the 49ers. A.J. Dillon and Jamaal Williams are on the COVID-19 list, so the Packers are short-handed this week. Tyler Ervin and Dexter Williams could end up splitting time at the running back position.

Packers | Aaron Jones could be a GTD    Fri Oct 23, 02:54 PM

Updating a previous report, Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones (calf) suffered a 'very mild' calf strain during practice Thursday, Oct. 22, per a source, and was held out Friday. He is listed as questionable on the team's Week 7 injury report and wants to play Sunday in Houston, but it's likely headed toward a game-time decision.

Footballguys view: The Packers staff is conservative, but the head coach said that Jones is more questionable than doubtful and Jones will apparently have a chance to show the team that he is healthy enough to play. Jamaal Williams and AJ Dillon will split the work if Jones can't go, with Williams likely getting the passing down snaps.
