Texans | Houston's injury report for Week 3    Fri Sep 25, 03:11 PM

Houston Texans RB Duke Johnson (ankle) and LB Peter Kalambayi (hamstring) were limited in practice all week and are listed as questionable for Week 3 versus the Pittsburgh Steelers. WR Kenny Stills (illness) was limited in practice Friday, Sept. 25, after getting added to the injury report and is also listed as questionable. DE J.J. Watt (groin, non-injury) and WR Randall Cobb (non-injury) did not practice Friday but are expected to play. WR Brandin Cooks (quad), FB Cullen Gillaspia (concussion), OT Laremy Tunsil (elbow) and OT Tytus Howard (ankle) practiced in full Friday and no longer appear on the injury report.

Footballguys view: Will Fuller is conspicuously absent from the injury report. He should get a lot of targets against the Steelers as long as he feels better, but there's obviously risk of a zero again if his hamstring issue flares up.

Updating a previous report, Houston Texans RB Duke Johnson (ankle) sustained a sprained ankle in Week 1's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs and is considered week-to-week, according to a league source not authorized to speak publicly.

Footballguys view: Duke Johnson's injury could open the door for David Johnson to have more of a three-down role. We'll see if Duke Johnson can practice in preparation for Week 2 against the Ravens. Reports indicate he's already considered questionable for the next game. Stay tuned.

Texans | Duke Johnson comfortable with club    Tue Aug 18, 01:50 AM

Houston Texans RB Duke Johnson said Monday, Aug. 17, that he is comfortable in the system after his first full offseason with the team. 'I'm much more comfortable. It's kind of night and day for me,' Johnson said. 'My expectations for myself is just make my plays whenever the opportunity presents itself.'

Footballguys view: We'd be more comfortable if the Texans actually used Duke Johnson the right way. They made a move to add David Johnson, and he should be the lead back with Duke backing him up.

Texans | Duke Johnson to benefit from full offseason    Tue May 26, 06:27 PM

Houston Texans RB Duke Johnson will gain a better understanding of the offense during his first full offseason with the team, according to offensive coordinator Tim Kelly. 'A lot of this stuff that we're covering right now, it's the first time (Johnson and David Johnson) really being able to kind of hear it in-depth and it's really, really good.'

Footballguys view: Johnson can be utilized as a runner and receiver out of the backfield. He'll be a change-of-pace back behind starter and lead back David Johnson. Duke Johnson has some deep flex appeal in PPR leagues because of his ability as a receiving back.

Texans | Houston blows big lead, falls in Kansas City    Sun Jan 12, 06:31 PM

Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson completed 31-of-52 passes for 388 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 51-31 AFC Divisional Round playoff game loss against the Kansas City Chiefs, as the team blew a 24-0 lead. RB Carlos Hyde rushed 13 times for 44 yards, while Watson also added 37 yards and a score. WR DeAndre Hopkins ended up with nine grabs for 118 yards on a game-high 14 targets. WR Will Fuller was a nice secondary option with 89 yards on five catches, while WR Kenny Stills posted three receptions for 80 yards and a touchdown. TE Darren Fells also had three catches for 22 yards and a touchdown on seven targets. RB Duke Johnson also chipped in with 11 rushing yards and five grabs for 23 yards. CB Lonnie Johnson also had a blocked kick return for touchdown in the first quarter while totaling four solo tackles.

Footballguys view: Watson was gifted a 24-0 lead but then turned into a deer in the headlights like his teammates as the game quickly slipped away. The stats were great in a perfect fantasy football game script, but this game will be remembered as an all-time collapse. The Texans are unlikely to make any majors this offseason and will be without their first and third round picks in the draft.

Houston Texans RB Duke Johnson rushed for four yards on two carries against the Tennessee Titans in Week 15. He also caught two passes for 19 yards during the game.

Footballguys view: Johnson had a sure touchdown intercepted at the last second by Kenny Vaccaro but he wasn't really a big part of the game plan anyway. He'll be a desperation play against the Bucs on Saturday.

Houston Texans RB Duke Johnson carried the ball five times for 22 yards against the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday, Nov. 21. He also had one reception for eight yards.

Footballguys view: Johnson had one good run but otherwise was quiet. He could be a fantasy factor if he was used more, but the Texans are adding more pieces instead of losing them, so he's not an essential hold at this point, even in PPR leagues.

Houston Texans RB Duke Johnson rushed for 13 yards and one touchdown on seven carries against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 9. He also caught five passes for 68 yards during the game.

Footballguys view: Johnson gobbled up yards on a few catches when the Texans had a long ways to go for a first down and won a collision at the goal line to score in his best game of the season. He's an emergency play with upside worth rostering through the bye in PPR leagues.

Houston Texans RB Duke Johnson out-snapped RB Carlos Hyde 39-to-26 in the Week 7 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts Sunday, Oct. 20.

Footballguys view: Johnson has the skill to handle a larger workload. We'll see if the Texans continue on this trend of getting Johnson more snaps than Hyde. Johnson has flex appeal in PPR leagues.

Houston Texans RB Duke Johnson rushed five times for 34 yards in Week 6 against the Kansas City Chiefs and he added two grabs for 20 yards and a touchdown on four targets.

Footballguys view: Johnson's touchdown made him a viable flex play but Carlos Hyde's strong afternoon won't get him any closer to a larger role. He's an end of the bench bye/injury/emergency play right now.

Texans | Eight total touches for Duke Johnson    Sun Sep 29, 05:43 PM

Houston Texans RB Duke Johnson rushed six times for 56 yards in Week 4 against the Carolina Panthers and he added two catches for 22 yards on three targets.

Footballguys view: Johnson actually got more snaps in this one and had the biggest play for the offense this afternoon, but he is still getting fewer opportunities to touch the ball than Carlos Hyde. He's only bench depth to hope for growth in opportunity, and not an essential hold heading into what could be a productive game vs. Atlanta.

Texans | Duke Johnson to be lead back?    Sat Aug 24, 10:13 PM

Houston Texans RB Duke Johnson will take over as the starting running back in the wake of RB Lamar Miller's (knee) knee injury, according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, and McClain believes Johnson will 'get all the playing time he can handle.'

Footballguys view: Johnson is worth as high as a fifth-round pick in PPR leagues now. The Texans will try to improve the situation behind him through an addition after final cuts, but with a big hole at offensive tackle and having already spent a fourth that could become a third on Johnson, they are unlikely to throw more draft picks at the position via trade.

Texans | Duke Johnson hits practice field    Tue Aug 20, 12:37 PM

Houston Texans RB Duke Johnson (hamstring) practiced with his new team for the first time Tuesday, Aug. 20, after being sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Footballguys view: We're excited to see how Johnson is used as the change-of-pace back behind Lamar Miller. Johnson is a fine pass-catcher and he can make plays in space. That gives him flex appeal in PPR leagues. Stay tuned.

Texans | Duke Johnson to miss preseason game    Wed Aug 14, 02:20 PM

Houston Texans RB Duke Johnson (hamstring) is still sidelined because of his hamstring injury and will not play in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 17.

Footballguys view: It's an unfortunate injury as we're all excited to see what Johnson can do with his new team. They'll take it easy on him while he recovers from this hamstring injury. When healthy, Johnson will work as a pass-catching back behind starter Lamar Miller...and there's a chance that he could push for a larger role. Stay tuned.

Texans | Duke Johnson idle    Mon Aug 12, 11:29 AM

Houston Texans RB Duke Johnson (hamstring) didn't practice Monday, Aug. 12, and he's unlikely to play in the second preseason game.

Footballguys view: The Texans are excited to see what Johnson can do in their backfield...on more than just third downs. We'll have to wait and see him in action, which is fine as Johnson is a seasoned veteran who doesn't need every rep to get up to speed...even with a new team.

Browns | Duke Johnson shipped to Houston    Thu Aug 8, 10:52 AM

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson was acquired by the Houston Texans Thursday, Aug. 8, in exchange for a conditional fourth-round draft pick that can become a third-round pick in 2020.

Footballguys view: This news backs up the idea that Cleveland likes Dontrell Hilliard as their receiving back, and he will be the primary backup until Kareem Hunt returns from an eight-game suspension, although the Browns could look to waivers after final cuts to improve their depth chart at the position.

Texans | Duke Johnson acquired by Texans    Thu Aug 8, 10:51 AM

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson was acquired by the Houston Texans Thursday, Aug. 8, in exchange for an undisclosed 2020 draft pick.

Footballguys view: Johnson has been one of the best receiving backs in the league and one of the most frequently explosive backs in the league despite strangely minimal usage by the Browns since they signed him to an extension last year. While he won't usurp the starting job from Lamar Miller, he gives the team a top-end passing down/no huddle option with the ability to post RB2/Flex level numbers in PPR leagues with big play spikes.

Browns | Hamstring injury for Duke Johnson    Sat Jul 27, 02:30 PM

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson (hamstring) did not participate in practice Saturday, July 27, because of a hamstring injury.

Footballguys view: This won't help his bid to get traded, along with Theo Riddick now being on the market. He's on the borderline of draftable in shallow PPR leagues even though his talent demands more touches than the Browns gave him last year.

Browns | Duke Johnson to play key role?    Thu Jul 25, 04:58 PM

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson is going to have a 'significant' role in the offense, according to head coach Freddie Kitchens.

Footballguys view: Johnson could have a role as a pass-catching back behind Nick Chubb...until Kareem Hunt comes back from his 8-game suspension. We'll see if Johnson is traded away (like he wants) at some point in the near future.

Browns | Duke Johnson will report    Wed Jul 24, 09:28 AM

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson, who has requested a trade, will report to training camp Wednesday, July 24.

Footballguys view: Johnson wants a trade but there are rumblings that Cleveland has received little interest in the veteran back. He's backing up Nick Chubb right now, but when Kareem Hunt comes back from his 8-game suspension he will move further down the depth chart. We'll see if Johnson gets more interest during training camp if some team loses a running back to injury.

Browns | Duke Johnson's future discussed    Tue Jul 23, 12:26 PM

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, is in Cleveland Tuesday, July 23, meeting with the team concerning Johnson's future with the Browns following his offseason trade demand. The Browns kick off training camp Wednesday, July 24.

Footballguys view: Johnson wants to get traded but the team has yet to find any takers. We'll see if some team like the Buccaneers make a play for the speedy receiving back. If he stays with the Browns, Johnson will open the season as the primary backup to Nick Chubb. However, when Kareem Hunt returns from his 8-game suspension then Johnson should move down the depth chart.

Browns | Duke Johnson won't be a distraction    Sun Jul 21, 04:10 PM

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson's public trade request won't hinder the team at training camp, according to WR Jarvis Landry. 'It will not be a distraction,' Landry said Friday, July 19. 'Our focus is pretty clear. We want to win a championship and the guys that are here, that's going to help us do that. We start on Thursday. Let's get it done.'

Footballguys view: Johnson's value will go up if he's traded, but there doesn't seem to be a strong market for his services. He does have the potential for a value bump and he's much better than his ADP indicates, so this could be a good time to deal for Johnson in dynasty leagues.
