Ravens | Lamar Jackson throws two TDs    Sun Oct 11, 05:07 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson went 19-for-37 for 180 yards, two touchdowns and one interception against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 5. He only rushed for three yards on two carries during the game.

Footballguys view: Jackson was off as a passer in this one and there's a clear feeling that he hasn't come close to his 2019 level of play yet this year. He has been a major fantasy disappointment, but in part because the Ravens have had four wins where they were barely challenged and could take the foot off of the gas in the second half. Jackson gets the Eagles next week and should still be in lineups.

Ravens | Lamar Jackson expected to play    Thu Oct 8, 02:29 PM

Updating a previous report, Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson (knee) is expected to play in Week 5 on Sunday, Oct. 11.

Footballguys view: Fantasy GMs can breathe a bit of a sigh of relief here. The Ravens play against the Bengals and should have an easy time against that defense. We could see the team using the run game (more J.K. Dobbins please) to win the contest. Jackson's missed practices Wednesday and Thursday were precautionary measures taken by the team, according to this report.

Ravens | Lamar Jackson accounts for three TDs    Sun Oct 4, 04:01 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson went 14-for-21 for 193 yards, two touchdowns and one interception against the Washington Football Team in Week 4. He also rushed for 53 yards and one touchdown on seven carries.

Footballguys view: Jackson's 25-30 point games are ho-hum affairs. He missed some throws and the Ravens were never seriously challenged, so he didn't have to press the issue in the run or pass game. A long score on the ground and two touchdown hookups with Mark Andrews was more than enough. He'll face a vulnerable Bengals defense after a disappointing first four games.

Updating previous reports, Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson (groin) has been held out of practice for the past two days for precautionary reasons as he deals with the groin strain, according to a source.

Ravens | Lamar Jackson misses another practice    Sun Aug 23, 04:32 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson (undisclosed) did not participate in practice Sunday, Aug. 23, because of a soft tissue injury, according to head coach John Harbaugh.

Footballguys view: This probably shouldn't change your overall ranking of Jackson - if you were targeting him in the second round because you believe he'll be worth close to as much as he was last year, then this small added risk doesn't make that upside any less attractive. We just want to see Jackson practice in full before the opener vs Cleveland.

Ravens | Lamar Jackson wants Antonio Brown on team    Wed Jul 29, 03:26 PM

Free-agent WR Antonio Brown (Patriots) worked out with Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson this offseason, and Jackson said he still hopes the Ravens sign Brown.

Footballguys view: Brown is waiting for the league to make a decision on his playing status. He vacillates between wanting to play and retiring seemingly every week or so. We think Brown plays, perhaps for the Ravens (or Seahawks), once the league gives the green light.

Ravens | Lamar Jackson exceptionally elusive    Tue Jul 14, 08:04 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson led the league with 47 carries in which he ran at least five yards before getting contacted in 2019, according to Pro Football Focus.

Footballguys view: Jackson had a lot of opportunities to decide when he would run and he chose well. He also possesses as much natural speed and elusiveness as any quarterback since Michael Vick. The offensive line lost possible Hall of Famer Marshal Yanda but otherwise the offense should be even better this year.

Ravens | Lamar Jackson focused on silencing critics    Wed Jul 1, 12:33 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson has his mind set on winning a playoff game in an effort to silence remaining critics following his MVP 2019 campaign. 'I need to win a playoff game before anything because I'm tired of that already,' Jackson said. 'Once I get tired of something, I have to make it happen. So, that's my goal right now; focus on being a better player all around. Not just a (better) player, but teammate as well.'

Footballguys view: The critics are still there for Jackson, mainly because of his lack of postseason success. We'll see the Ravens run through the regular season once again and they should win the AFC North title in 2020. Then, Jackson will have to work his magic in the playoffs to see if he can get the Ravens to the Super Bowl.

Ravens | Lamar Jackson escapes tumble unscathed    Mon Jun 15, 02:19 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson tumbled over a jet ski on the beach in a video posted on social media, landing awkwardly but escaping the situation free of injury.

Footballguys view: Yeah, that's a video that made Ravens fans hearts skip a beat. Jackson was playing beach football and ran towards what must have been the pylon for the 'end zone' which was a jet ski parked on the edge of the water. Thank goodness he's okay.

Ravens | Lamar Jackson successful on play action    Mon Jun 8, 07:52 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson threw 11 touchdowns on play-action passes in 2019 and did not record any interception on those passes.

Footballguys view: Jackson's rushing ability sets things up nicely for play-action passing. He's so dangerous on the ground that teams are fearing/respecting that first and foremost. This leads to one-on-one situations down field that his receivers can win. We'll continue to see Jackson be a leader in this category in 2020 and beyond.

Ravens | Lamar Jackson may go deep more often    Sun May 31, 02:52 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson hopefully will try more downfield throws this upcoming season when the team faces one-on-one coverage, according to head coach John Harbaugh. 'Those corners are going to be one-on-one and those safeties are going to be one-on-one against receivers, especially on downfield throws, and we got to make them pay for it,' Harbaugh said. 'I really do believe that's the next step for this offense from an execution standpoint. I really do believe Lamar is going to take the next step and our receivers are going to take the next step.'

Footballguys view: So long as his targets are healthy (Marquise Brown specifically), Jackson should be able to have quite a bit of success as a deep passer. His rushing ability means teams are going to be sucked up to the line in order to contain Jackson as a runner. That leaves deep shots in 1-on-1 situations that Jackson could take advantage of.

Ravens | Lamar Jackson to improve deep passing?    Thu May 28, 08:03 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson can improve on his MVP 2019 campaign by taking advantage of defenses stacking the box, according to head coach John Harbaugh Thursday, May 28. 'Those corners are going to be one-on-one and those safeties are going to be one-on-one against receivers, especially on some downfield throws, and we got to make them pay for it. We absolutely have to make them pay,' Harbaugh said. 'The ability to make them pay for tilting their defense toward stopping our run game with a really, really efficient passing game. I do believe that's the next step of this offense. I really do believe Lamar is going to take the next step.'

Footballguys view: The Ravens could help Jackson by getting him better wide receivers. The players in place have talent but guys like Marquise Brown need to stay healthy to be productive. Jackson is a better passer than some think, and he'll continue to develop his talent in 2020 and beyond.

Ravens | Lamar Jackson best in league at big runs    Thu May 28, 06:48 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson's 47 runs of 10-plus yards in the 2019 regular season were more than any other player - running back or quarterback, according to Pro Football Focus.

Footballguys view: Jackson is the most dangerous runner in the league, regardless of position. He's improving as a passer but is still going to be a threat with the rock in his hands and his mind on gashing defenses with his legs. Expect him to lead the league in this category again in 2020.

Ravens | Lamar Jackson lethal against Cover-0    Wed May 27, 09:35 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson finished 19-for-25 and threw for 12 touchdowns against Cover-0 coverage - an all-out blitz with man coverage and no deep safety - in 2019.

Footballguys view: Teams should not send all-out blitzes against Jackson. His athleticism is as dangerous as we've ever seen in the NFL. Jackson is also a better passer than some realize, meaning he can beat the blitz with his legs or his arm.

Ravens | Lamar Jackson to work out with teammates    Wed May 27, 06:43 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson is scheduled to work out with some of his teammates next week, according to WR Miles Boykin.

Footballguys view: Jackson's going to keep his game sharp. He's developing as a passer and still the most dangerous runner in the league...at any position. Jackson has a current ADP of QB2 (2.08) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Ravens | Lamar Jackson outstanding against blitz    Thu May 21, 04:46 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson threw 24 touchdown passes against the blitz this past season.

Footballguys view: Defenses are often nearly helpless against Jackson. If you blitz him he only gets better. It's a similar situation with Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City. We'll continue to see Jackson develop as a passer while he also gashes opponents on the ground with his elite rushing skill.

Ravens | Lamar Jackson productive from pocket    Mon May 18, 05:10 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson threw 25 touchdowns from the pocket in 2019, which ranked first among quarterbacks.

Footballguys view: Jackson is dangerous as a runner and more lethal as a passer than some still want to give him credit for. We should see him continue to throw with accuracy from the pocket this season.

Ravens | Lamar Jackson successful at avoiding tackles    Mon May 18, 04:44 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson forced 42 missed tackles this past season, which ranked first among quarterbacks in the NFL.

Footballguys view: In other news, water is wet. Jackson is one of the most elusive quarterbacks to ever play this game. He's a more developed passer than some want to give him credit for, but Jackson is going to continue as an incredibly dangerous runner in 2020.

Ravens | Man coverage no match for Lamar Jackson    Sun May 17, 04:14 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson posted an NFL-best 91.0 QBR versus man coverage in 2019, according to ESPN's Matt Bowen.

Footballguys view: Jackson is a good passer who is only getting better. Man coverage has to stay on an island with the Ravens receivers while Jackson uses his athleticism to buy time and look for the right throw. That's why Jackson is so deadly against that type of coverage.

Link to story
Lamar Jackson player page

Ravens | Lamar Jackson incredibly efficient in 2019    Mon May 11, 10:16 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson threw for a touchdown on league-best nine percent of his 401 pass attempts in 2019. Only one other quarterback (Drew Brees, 7.1) with at least 300 pass attempts finished with a mark better than six percent.

Footballguys view: Jackson was deadly last year as a runner and as an efficient passer. Expect more of the same this year as the Ravens try a rinse and repeat to get back to the playoffs and hopefully (for them) to the Super Bowl.

Ravens | Lamar Jackson to dial back running?    Tue Apr 21, 05:24 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson doesn't expect to contribute as much to the running game in 2020 or beyond. 'I doubt if I'm going to be carrying the ball a lot going on in the future,' Jackson said. 'We've got dynamic running backs. We're going to have even more receivers. We've got Hollywood (Marquise Brown), Mark Andrews, Nick (Boyle), Willie Snead, Miles (Boykin). We're going to be pretty good. I don't think I'll be running a lot.'

Footballguys view: This is a natural progression that Jackson must make. He can't be a scrambler forever or else his body will not hold up. They may plan on him running less, but we imagine Jackson will still do plenty with his legs. He's a QB1 for Fantasy GMs in 2020.

Ravens | Lamar Jackson ran out of RPOs a lot in 2019    Tue Mar 31, 10:50 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson kept the ball and ran 92 times on 173 run-pass option (RPO) plays last season - nearly three times as often as the next closest quarterback (Kyler Murray; 33).

Footballguys view: Jackson is one of the most dangerous quarterbacks in the league, and he's certainly the most dangerous when it comes to running the ball. He'll continue to develop as a passer, but Jackson should also keep using RPOs to make plays with his feet and attack defenses.

Ravens | Run-action important to Lamar Jackson    Sun Mar 29, 05:48 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson executed a league-high 173 run-pass option (RPO) plays in 2019 - 65 more than second-place Kyler Murray (108). Jackson also ranked third in play-action pass attempts with 163.

Footballguys view: Jackson is dangerous as a runner and a passer. Using run-action before passing helps freeze defenders who are so worried about Jackson's ability to run. This type of production should continue in 2020.

Ravens | Lamar Jackson sees room for improvement    Tue Mar 3, 08:09 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson recently told Alex Marvez and Gil Brandt of SiriusXM NFL Radio that a primary focus of his offseason work will be 'getting the ball out even faster.'

Footballguys view: Jackson took the league by storm in 2019 and made great strides as a passer from his rookie season in 2018. We'll see what kind of jump he can make in 2020. The Ravens could help him out greatly by getting Jackson better receivers to throw to.

Ravens | Baltimore's stats for the Divisional Round    Sat Jan 11, 11:36 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson threw for 365 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions Saturday, Jan. 11, vs. the Tennessee Titans in the AFC Divisional Round of the playoffs. He ran 20 times for 143 yards and lost a fumble. RB Mark Ingram (calf) ran six times for 22 yards. WR Marquise Brown caught seven of 11 targets for 126 yards. WR Willie Snead hauled in six of eight targets for 56 yards, while TE Hayden Hurst caught one touchdown on his four receptions for 53 yards. TE Mark Andrews managed four receptions for 39 yards on seven looks.

Footballguys view: Jackson put up a ton of yards on the ground and through the air. However, he turned the ball over too much to win and seemed to be too amped up from the start. The Ravens were the favorite to go to and win the Super Bowl. Now, they'll be sitting at home for the rest of the playoffs wondering what happened.
