Browns | Harrison Bryant fills in admirably    Sun Oct 25, 06:57 PM

Cleveland Browns TE Harrison Bryant ended up with four receptions for 56 yards and two touchdowns on five targets in Week 7 against the Cincinnati Bengals, stepping up for the missing TE Austin Hooper (appendectomy).

Footballguys view: Bryant should be considered a potential streamer next week against the Raiders even though David Njoku also caught a score today. He's clearly ahead of Njoku in the passing game pecking order.

Cleveland Browns TE Austin Hooper (appendix) is not expected to return to action until after the team's Week 9 bye. He was already declared out for Week 7's game versus the Cincinnati Bengals and also appears likely to miss Week 8's contest versus the Las Vegas Raiders.

Footballguys view: Harrison Bryant will get the start today and the rookie is probably a better play than David Njoku

Browns | Austin Hooper out with appendectomy     Fri Oct 23, 12:51 PM

Cleveland Browns TE Austin Hooper (appendix) is undergoing an appendectomy Friday, Oct. 23, and will miss the team's Week 7 game against the Cincinnati Bengals, head coach Kevin Stefanski announced.

Footballguys view: Harrison Bryant and David Njoku will split the passing game work with Hooper out, and Njoku will get a chance to show what he can do for teams that might be interested in the trade market. Both are just desperation plays.

Browns | Austin Hooper finds the end zone    Sun Oct 4, 05:42 PM

Cleveland Browns TE Austin Hooper posted five catches for 34 yards and a touchdown in Week 4 against the Dallas Cowboys.

Footballguys view: This is a ceiling game from Hooper in the Browns era of his career. Cleveland scored 49 points and Hooper had only modest production, but at least he scored. He's just a desperation play as rookie fourth-round pick Harrison Bryant is as involved in the passing game as Hooper is.

Browns | Austin Hooper furthering bond with QB    Tue Aug 25, 09:09 PM

Cleveland Browns TE Austin Hooper's offseason work with QB Baker Mayfield is evident by their chemistry on the field, according to offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt. 'It is those unwritten, the body language things that you can't really coach and teach, and when two guys get on that same page, and it is tough to stop,' Van Pelt said.

Footballguys view: Hooper can be what Mark Andrews was for Mayfield in college at Oklahoma. That means he can be his security blanket when the play breaks down. The Browns have an upgraded O-line, a strong rushing attack and plenty of weapons in the passing game. This means Hooper could get favorable coverage on his new team. Hooper is a borderline TE1 for Fantasy GMs with a current ADP of TE13 (12.05) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Browns | Austin Hooper put in work with Baker Mayfield    Wed Aug 5, 04:20 PM

Cleveland Browns TE Austin Hooper lived part of the summer with QB Baker Mayfield while the two worked out together.

Footballguys view: Hooper was the big free agent tight end this year and the Browns were able to secure his services. The Browns spent a lot of resources this offseason to improve their offense and hopefully that leads to better numbers from Mayfield as he suffered through a sophomore slump in 2019.

Browns | Austin Hooper a dependable target    Fri Jul 17, 10:24 PM

Cleveland Browns TE Austin Hooper leads all tight ends with a 77.3 percent catch rate since the start of 2017, and he dropped one pass on 97 targets last season.

Footballguys view: Hooper is reliable, but he doesn't add much in the way of yards after catch. His target share should go down in the Browns offense, especially if David Njoku isn't traded, so that reliability will be less important in fantasy leagues this year.

Free-agent TE Austin Hooper (Falcons) reportedly agreed to terms on a contract with the Cleveland Browns on Monday, March 16, to make him the game's highest-paid tight end, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Browns are done with David Njoku and get a solid starter in Hooper. He's likely to become a favorite target and security blanket receiver for QB Baker Mayfield.

Bills | Buffalo unlikely to pursue Austin Hooper    Sun Mar 15, 12:06 PM

Atlanta Falcons impending free-agent TE Austin Hooper is not expected to receive interest from the Buffalo Bills this offseason, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Hooper is considered the top free agent tight end this year but the Bills aren't looking at the position. They have second-year pro Dawson Knox who should be in line to be their starter and most highly targeted tight end on the roster. Knox has great upside when healthy and should be able to continue building strong chemistry with QB Josh Allen.

Redskins | Austin Hooper a likely target for Redskins    Fri Feb 28, 06:19 PM

Atlanta Falcons impending free-agent TE Austin Hooper likely will be a target for the Washington Redskins during free agency, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Washington is in the market for a tight end with Jordan Reed gone. Hooper is arguably the best tight end available in free agency, and he should get a deal that makes him one of the highest-paid in his position.

Bears | Austin Hooper targeted by Chicago    Thu Feb 27, 09:30 PM

Atlanta Falcons impending free-agent TE Austin Hooper is a top target of the Chicago Bears in free agency, according to a source Thursday, Feb. 27. Bidding is expected to reach as high as $12 million per year for Hooper's services on the open market.

Footballguys view: The Packers and Washington will also reportedly be in on Hooper. He might not be as good of a fantasy prospect on Chicago as he would be on other teams so fantasy teams should root for the Bears to fall short in their pursuit of him.

Falcons | Austin Hooper to hit market    Tue Feb 25, 11:36 AM

Atlanta Falcons impending free-agent TE Austin Hooper will be allowed to discover his market in free agency.

Footballguys view: Zero surprise here. Hooper is going to be too expensive for the Falcons to keep as they are paying a bunch of money to skill position guys like QB Matt Ryan, RB Devonta Freeman (for now) and WR Julio ?Jones. We should see Hooper earn a contract that makes him one of the highest-paid tight ends in the league.

Falcons | Big money for Austin Hooper?    Sat Feb 22, 09:39 PM

Atlanta Falcons impending free-agent TE Austin Hooper's new contract will likely be in the range of $44 million over four years with $26.5 million guaranteed, in the opinion of former NFL agent Joel Corry.

Footballguys view: Hooper is going to be the highest-paid tight end in free agency...and the Falcons may not be able to afford him with what they're already paying guys like QB Matt Ryan and WR Julio Jones. If Hooper gets to the open market, the demand for his services is going to be quite high.

Jaguars | Austin Hooper a fit in Jacksonville?    Sun Feb 16, 09:23 PM

Atlanta Falcons impending free-agent TE Austin Hooper could be a target for the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to John Reid of The Florida Times-Union.

Footballguys view: Hooper should be the highest-paid tight end in this free agency class. He had a breakout season with the Falcons in 2019, catching 75 passes for 787 yards and six touchdowns in 13 games. Hooper could get around $10 million annually in his new deal...and the Falcons may not be able to pay him that much as they've invested so much in other skill position players.

Falcons | Austin Hooper unlikely to be tagged    Tue Jan 14, 07:09 PM

Atlanta Falcons impending free-agent TE Austin Hooper likely will not receive the franchise tag this offseason, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Vaughn McClure.

Footballguys view: The Falcons are already paying a ton of money to skill position players like WR Julio Jones and RB Devonta Freeman (although Freeman might be released), so franchise-tagging Hooper does not make sense. Hooper appeared in 13 games in 2019, finishing with 75 catches for 787 yards and six touchdowns. Hooper should be in line for a new contract that pays him around $8-9 million per year.

Falcons | Week 17 final stats for Falcons    Sun Dec 29, 04:53 PM

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan finished up with 30-of-51 passes for 313 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Week 17 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. RB Devonta Freeman led the way with 18 rushes for 58 yards while adding two receptions for 15 yards. WR Julio Jones posted seven catches for a team-best 78 yards on 13 targets, while WR Russell Gage chipped in with seven grabs for 68 yards on 13 targets. TE Austin Hooper also checked in with seven receptions for 45 yards on nine targets. LB Deion Jones recorded a fumble recovery and a 27-yard interception return for touchdown in overtime.

Footballguys view: The Falcons will keep the band together and if the offensive line stays healthy they could be a 2020 success story. Devonta Freeman could be a cap casualty, making the Falcons a possible landing spot for Kenyan Drake, Melvin Gordon or a high running back draft pick.

Falcons | Seven receptions for Austin Hooper    Sun Dec 22, 05:14 PM

Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper caught seven passes for 82 yards against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 16. He was targeted nine times during the game.

Footballguys view: Matt Ryan was hot early and the Jaguars defense was soft against the pass which allowed Hooper some room to roam. Hooper matured this year into a fantasy TE1.

Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper (knee) caught two passes for 32 yards on six targets vs. the Carolina Panthers in Week 14 on Sunday, Dec. 8.

Footballguys view: Hooper was disappointing only because this game was easy and comfortable for his quarterback. It was also his first week back from a three week layoff. He'll still be a TE1 against the 49ers next week, especially if Calvin Ridley is out.

Falcons | Austin Hooper not on injury report    Fri Dec 6, 06:36 PM

Updating a previous report, Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper (knee) was limited during practice Friday, Dec. 6, but is not on the injury report for Week 14.

Footballguys view: Hooper will be back this week for the Falcons. He's been trending in the right direction for quite some time, so Fantasy GMs can trust him as a TE1 in Week 14. Hooper was the No. 1 fantasy tight end before he got hurt, and he should be a big part of what the Falcons do on offense against the Panthers.

Footballguys view: Hooper is unlikely to play in Week 12. His knee injury was originally supposed to have him out for about a month and he's only missed one game so far.
