Falcons | No progress on Austin Hooper deal    Wed Jan 22, 10:58 PM

Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper is not close to a contract extension with the team, according to general manager Thomas Dimitroff Tuesday, Jan. 21. 'The reality right now is that we are trudging along,' Dimitroff said. 'Once we get back from the Super Bowl, after the Super Bowl week we'll continue to look and see how we are moving forward. But at this point there are no updates on Austin.'

Falcons | Austin Hooper unlikely to be tagged    Tue Jan 14, 07:09 PM

Atlanta Falcons impending free-agent TE Austin Hooper likely will not receive the franchise tag this offseason, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Vaughn McClure.

Footballguys view: The Falcons are already paying a ton of money to skill position players like WR Julio Jones and RB Devonta Freeman (although Freeman might be released), so franchise-tagging Hooper does not make sense. Hooper appeared in 13 games in 2019, finishing with 75 catches for 787 yards and six touchdowns. Hooper should be in line for a new contract that pays him around $8-9 million per year.

Falcons | Week 17 final stats for Falcons    Sun Dec 29, 04:53 PM

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan finished up with 30-of-51 passes for 313 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Week 17 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. RB Devonta Freeman led the way with 18 rushes for 58 yards while adding two receptions for 15 yards. WR Julio Jones posted seven catches for a team-best 78 yards on 13 targets, while WR Russell Gage chipped in with seven grabs for 68 yards on 13 targets. TE Austin Hooper also checked in with seven receptions for 45 yards on nine targets. LB Deion Jones recorded a fumble recovery and a 27-yard interception return for touchdown in overtime.

Footballguys view: The Falcons will keep the band together and if the offensive line stays healthy they could be a 2020 success story. Devonta Freeman could be a cap casualty, making the Falcons a possible landing spot for Kenyan Drake, Melvin Gordon or a high running back draft pick.

Falcons | Seven receptions for Austin Hooper    Sun Dec 22, 05:14 PM

Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper caught seven passes for 82 yards against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 16. He was targeted nine times during the game.

Footballguys view: Matt Ryan was hot early and the Jaguars defense was soft against the pass which allowed Hooper some room to roam. Hooper matured this year into a fantasy TE1.

Falcons | Austin Hooper returns for a pair of grabs    Sun Dec 8, 06:36 PM

Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper (knee) caught two passes for 32 yards on six targets vs. the Carolina Panthers in Week 14 on Sunday, Dec. 8.

Footballguys view: Hooper was disappointing only because this game was easy and comfortable for his quarterback. It was also his first week back from a three week layoff. He'll still be a TE1 against the 49ers next week, especially if Calvin Ridley is out.

Falcons | Austin Hooper not on injury report    Fri Dec 6, 06:36 PM

Updating a previous report, Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper (knee) was limited during practice Friday, Dec. 6, but is not on the injury report for Week 14.

Footballguys view: Hooper will be back this week for the Falcons. He's been trending in the right direction for quite some time, so Fantasy GMs can trust him as a TE1 in Week 14. Hooper was the No. 1 fantasy tight end before he got hurt, and he should be a big part of what the Falcons do on offense against the Panthers.

Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper (knee) did not practice Tuesday, Nov. 26, but was able to get some work off to the side, according to ESPN's Vaughn McClure.

Footballguys view: Hooper is getting back on the right track but we don't think he's going to suit up on Thanksgiving against the Saints. We could see Hooper back in game action in Week 14 but will have to see what his practice status is like next week.

Falcons | Austin Hooper does not practice    Mon Nov 25, 05:37 PM

Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper (knee) did not participate in practice Monday, Nov. 25. The Falcons did not hold a practice Monday, so this is an estimation.

Footballguys view: Hooper's knee injury was supposed to sideline him through the month of November. It would be a surprise if he was out there on Thanksgiving night against the Saints. We think a Week 14 return for Hooper is a better bet.

Falcons | Austin Hooper out again    Wed Nov 20, 01:11 PM

Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper (knee) will be out for Week 12, but he could start running Thursday, Nov. 21.

Footballguys view: Hooper is unlikely to play in Week 12. His knee injury was originally supposed to have him out for about a month and he's only missed one game so far. It will be two games missed when he doesn't play on Sunday. Hooper does sound like he might be a bit ahead in his recovery. We'll see what he does in next week's practice.

Falcons | Austin Hooper likely to sit Wednesday    Mon Nov 18, 03:46 PM

Atlanta Falcons RB Austin Hooper (knee) is not expected to practice Wednesday, Nov. 20, but head coach Dan Quinn is hopeful he can return to practice later in the week.

Footballguys view: Hooper's knee injury was initially supposed to sideline him for a month. It might be a week or two before he actually is back in action. The Falcons aren't going to use a tight end much in his place, so Fantasy GMs need to look for help elsewhere.

Falcons | Austin Hooper to miss Week 11    Fri Nov 15, 02:52 PM

Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper (knee) on Friday, Nov. 15, was ruled out of Week 11 with a knee injury.

Footballguys view: Jaeden Graham and Luke Stocker will get more work with Hooper out. Graham is the better receiver but only of interest in extremely deep leagues.

Falcons | Devonta Freeman, Austin Hooper miss practice    Thu Nov 14, 02:40 PM

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (foot) and TE Austin Hooper (knee) did not practice Thursday, Nov. 14.

Footballguys view: Neither will play this weekend. Brian Hill will get the start at running back and he's a viable play against a weak Panthers run defense. Luke Stocker and Jaeden Graham will split the tight end work, with Graham the better receiving talent.

Falcons | Austin Hooper to return sooner?    Thu Nov 14, 02:13 AM

Updating a previous report, Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper (knee) is considered 'week to week' by the team, according to ESPN's Vaughn McClure, who added that head coach Dan Quinn denied an earlier report that Hooper will be sidelined for a month.

Footballguys view: Hooper is out at least this week, so the Falcons have to find other targets in the passing game. Luke Stocker takes over at tight end but he's more of a blocker. Without Hooper, we just might see more from WRs Calvin Ridley and Russell Gage.

Falcons | Austin Hooper out a month    Wed Nov 13, 12:21 PM

Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper (knee) is expected to miss a month with a sprained medial collateral ligament.

Footballguys view: It's a blow to the Falcons offense and to Fantasy GMs who were thriving with Hooper at the position. The Falcons will turn to blocker Luke Stocker as their starter but he's not much of a pass-catching option. We should just see more work for guys like Calvin Ridley and Russell Gage.

Falcons | More on Austin Hooper's injury    Mon Nov 11, 07:38 PM

Updating a previous report, Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper (knee) has been diagnosed with a sprained medial collateral ligament and will miss some time. He is scheduled to receive a second opinion on the injury to determine how much time he will miss.

Falcons | Austin Hooper to miss time    Mon Nov 11, 10:49 AM

Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper (knee) will have an MRI on his knee Monday, Nov. 11, and he's expected to miss time. The MRI will determine how much he'll miss.

Footballguys view: Bad news for Fantasy GMs here. Hooper has scored more fantasy points at the tight end position this year than anybody else in the league. He's obviously a big part of what the Falcons do through the air. Luke Stocker is next in line behind Hooper, but he's mostly known as a blocker. In crazy deep dynasty formats, we're watching 2018 UDFA Jaeden Graham who might get an opportunity with Hooper down. Graham was a star at Yale, and he's certainly got more of a pass-catching/athletic profile than Stocker.

Falcons | Austin Hooper suffered injury in Week 10    Sun Nov 10, 05:26 PM

Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper (knee) suffered a knee injury during the Week 10 game.

Footballguys view: Hooper has been one of the few reliable tight end options this year. We will be watching this injury closely. If Hooper is out next week, Russell Gage could be a more important target against Carolina next week.

Falcons | Austin Hooper scores TD in Week 7    Sun Oct 20, 07:30 PM

Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper finished with four receptions, 46 yards and a touchdown on five targets in Week 7 against the Los Angeles Rams.

Footballguys view: Hooper bailed out fantasy teams with a garbage time score from the backup quarterback. He'll still be a viable TE1 if Matt Schaub starts against Seattle, but obviously it would be better if Matt Ryan was ready to play.

Falcons | Big game for Austin Hooper    Sun Oct 13, 11:02 PM

Falcons | Austin Hooper a big part of offense     Sun Sep 29, 06:12 PM

Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper caught nine passes for 130 yards against the Tennessee Titans in Week 4. He was targeted 11 times during the game.

Footballguys view: Hooper continues to have his biggest games when Matt Ryan is struggling. He's been a strong TE1 so far and there's no reason to expect that to slow down considering the offensive line woes and negative trends in the Falcons offense.

Falcons | Two touchdowns for Austin Hooper    Sun Sep 22, 05:49 PM

Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper posted six catches for 66 yards and two scores in Week 3 against the Indianapolis Colts.

Footballguys view: Hooper was strong early and added a second touchdown on a short pass. He has been a high floor play going into this week, and now he has added a foot or two to the height of his weekly ceiling. He's a solid TE1 heading into a matchup against the Titans.

Falcons | Austin Hooper good to go for camp    Sun Jul 21, 06:24 PM

Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper (ankle) will participate in training camp after missing minicamp due to an ankle injury.

Footballguys view: Hooper could be a solid TE1 if he gets the same target share as last year in what should be an even more efficient offense with the return of coordinator Dirk Koetter.

Falcons | Austin Hooper had robust catch rate    Wed Jul 17, 10:54 AM

Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper caught 71 of 88 targets last season for an 80.7 percent catch ratio. In comparison, former TE Tony Gonzalez's best catch ratio was 75 percent in 2012. 'Hooper, the improvement just keeps getting better,' Falcons head coach Dan Quinn said. 'Now, he's ready to go to another level, and I'm looking forward to seeing him make that growth.'

Footballguys view: Hooper has done a good job of developing his game in the pros. He's not a seam-ripper or a touchdown hog, but Hooper is consistent with his effort and gets open for QB Matt Ryan. A third-round pick out of Stanford in the 2016 NFL draft, Hooper finished 2018 with 71 catches for 660 yards and four touchdowns. This year, Hooper should be in that low-end TE1 range for Fantasy GMs. His current ADP is TE11 (10.08) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper said he likes the passing attack for 2019 and is excited to work with tight ends coach Mike Mularkey.

Footballguys view: Hooper came through for Fantasy GMs last year, finishing as the no.7 fantasy tight end in standard scoring leagues. We'll see if he can stay on that production level...and perhaps add some more touchdowns in 2019.
