Jets | Chris Herndon traded by Jets Tue Aug 31, 03:31 PM
New York Jets TE Chris Herndon was traded to the Minnesota Vikings Tuesday, Aug. 31, according to sources. The Jets will receive draft pick compensation in the trade.
Footballguys view: Tyler Kroft was playing ahead of Herndon and seemed to be a preferred target for rookie QB Zach Wilson. He might be worth considering as a streamer in crazy deep leagues. |

Vikings | Minnesota acquires Chris Herndon Tue Aug 31, 03:25 PM
New York Jets TE Chris Herndon was acquired by the Minnesota Vikings Tuesday, Aug. 31, according to sources. The Jets will receive draft pick compensation in the trade.
Footballguys view: Herndon has always had physical talent but he's yet to put it all together in the pros. With the injury to Irv Smith, the Vikings needed to make a move at the tight end position. He's going to compete with Tyler Conklin while Smith is out recovery from his meniscus injury. |

Jets | Tyler Kroft pushing to start? Mon Jun 28, 09:29 PM
New York Jets TE Tyler Kroft was 'one of the bigger surprises of the spring' and could beat out Chris Herndon for the starting job if Herndon 'does not shake out of the funk he was in last year,' according to Brian Costello of the New York Post.
Footballguys view: Herdon has talent but he's never played up to his potential. The Jets don't have time to wait and the best player will win the starting job. Kroft was the no.12 fantasy tight end when he was with the Bengals back in 2017, mainly powered by his nose for the end zone. With a rookie quarterback needing to lean on the tight end spot, and in this Mike LaFluer (Shanahan/Kubiak) offense that's going to happen, there might be some value here. Watch to see if Kroft wins the starting job in training camp then keep him on your waiver wire speed dial. |

Jets | Chris Herndon limited by hamstring Thu Jun 17, 02:18 PM
New York Jets TE Chris Herndon (hamstring) was limited in practice Wednesday, June 16, by hamstring 'tightness,' but head coach Robert Saleh added that he expects Herndon to be 'perfectly fine' going forward.
Footballguys view: Herndon has physical gifts but he's been banged up off and on during his pro career. This hamstring injury seems minor, and Herndon should be good to go for the start of training camp. The upside and potential is always there with Herndon but he hasn't played up to that in the NFL. |

Jets | Chris Herndon registers TD in Week 16 Sun Dec 27, 06:11 PM
New York Jets TE Chris Herndon posted four receptions for 34 yards and a touchdown on four targets in Week 16 against the Cleveland Browns.
Footballguys view: Herndon has a pulse in NFL and fantasy circles after making a few plays recently. Many players have rebounded in a big way after getting out from under Adam Gase's thumb and hopefully we'll get a chance to see if Herndon is next in 2021. |

New York Jets TE Chris Herndon caught six passes for 37 yards against the Buffalo Bills in Week 1. He was targeted seven times during the game.

Jets | Chris Herndon expected to be OK Tue Sep 1, 01:41 PM
New York Jets TE Chris Herndon (chest) left practice early with a chest issue Tuesday, Sept. 1, but tests revealed no structural damage. The New York Daily News' Manish Mehta reported that Herndon, who reportedly had difficulty breathing times during practice, should be fine despite having irritation in his lungs.
Footballguys view: Herndon is a talented player but injuries have held him back as a pro. Fantasy GMs are looking at him as a TE2 with upside in 2020. |

Jets | Big expectations for Chris Herndon Tue Aug 18, 12:52 AM
New York Jets TE Chris Herndon was praised by head coach Adam Gase after practice on Sunday, Aug. 17. 'He's our starting tight end,' the coach said. 'He plays both in-line and he plays off the ball.'
Footballguys view: Herndon has to stay healthy in order to play up to his potential. Fantasy GMs have considered Herndon a deep sleeper before only to see him get suspended, then banged up and barely play (18 snaps in 2019). He's not getting drafted right now in 12-team PPR leagues, but keep Herndon on your waiver wire speed dial just in case they unleash him on offense in 2020. |

Jets | High ceiling for Chris Herndon? Fri Jul 24, 09:16 PM
New York Jets TE Chris Herndon has a chance to become QB Sam Darnold's 'Travis Kelce or Zach Ertz' in 2020, according to Connor Hughes of The Athletic.
Footballguys view: Let's not go crazy with the Kelce/Ertz comparisons here. Yes, Herndon does have upside -- he always has because of his athletic profile and role on the team as the starting tight end. We'd feel better about Herndon and the rest of the Jets offense is they were not under the guidance of Adam Gase. Herndon is a TE2 with TE1 upside you can get late in your drafts. |

Jets | Chris Herndon in a bad spot? Sat Jul 4, 09:27 PM
New York Jets TE Chris Herndon could underwhelm in 2020 because of the way head coach Adam Gase utilizes the tight end position, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN.com. When Gase was with the Miami Dolphins from 2016 to 2018, his tight ends finished with a league-low 150 catches in that span.
Footballguys view: Herndon will also share with Ryan Griffin, who was solid in Herndon's absence and signed to an extension during the season. While he still has some dynasty upside, Herndon probably isn't the answer at tight end this year in redraft leagues. |
Chris Herndon player page
Jets | NYJ anticipating rebound from Chris Herndon Wed May 20, 08:33 PM
New York Jets TE Chris Herndon was limited to one game and one catch last season after suffering a setback with his hamstring following his season-opening suspension. However, his lack of time on the field has not dampened the enthusiasm of head coach Adam Gase.'I think everyone can agree that we were all excited to see what he could do going into last year. We felt good about so many things, and it just didn't work out with the suspension and the injury. Then we finally get him on the field and he played like (18) plays. He's a guy that we're excited to get back and can't really wait to get going. And see how he'll fit in with everything,' Gase told the New York Post.
Footballguys view: Remember what Herndon was in 2018 (39 catches, 502 yards, four touchdowns) and remember the excitement that Fantasy GMs had for him entering last year? That could be there again if he's healthy. Was he a flash in the pan or is something more? Herndon has intriguing upside but there are a ton of questions around his game. |

Jets | Chris Herndon dealing with another injury Mon Nov 11, 02:08 PM
New York Jets TE Chris Herndon (ribs) is expected to miss 'an extended amount of time' with a fractured rib, according to head coach Adam Gase.
Footballguys view: Fantasy GMs have moved on long ago. Herndon returned from his six-game suspension and promptly injured his hamstring. That kept him out even longer but Herndon did get back to action in Week 10, catching one pass for seven yards. Now, he's dealing with a somewhat serious rib injury. The Jets will use Ryan Griffin as their starting tight end. |

Jets | Chris Herndon quiet in Week 10 Sun Nov 10, 06:34 PM
New York Jets TE Chris Herndon caught one pass for seven yards against the New York Giants in Week 10. He was targeted two times during the game.
Footballguys view: Herndon has represented a long wait for nothing. He is droppable this week as he failed to make a mark against an easy matchup. He could still be a desperation play next week against Washington, but the odds are against him generating momentum at this point. |
