Jets | Chris Herndon catches six passes    Sun Sep 13, 05:44 PM

New York Jets TE Chris Herndon caught six passes for 37 yards against the Buffalo Bills in Week 1. He was targeted seven times during the game.

Footballguys view: Herndon only racked up most of his catches in garbage time and he doesn't look like a preferred sleeper tight end option against the 49ers next week.

Jets | Chris Herndon expected to be OK    Tue Sep 1, 01:41 PM

New York Jets TE Chris Herndon (chest) left practice early with a chest issue Tuesday, Sept. 1, but tests revealed no structural damage. The New York Daily News' Manish Mehta reported that Herndon, who reportedly had difficulty breathing times during practice, should be fine despite having irritation in his lungs.

Footballguys view: Herndon is a talented player but injuries have held him back as a pro. Fantasy GMs are looking at him as a TE2 with upside in 2020.

Jets | Big expectations for Chris Herndon    Tue Aug 18, 12:52 AM

New York Jets TE Chris Herndon was praised by head coach Adam Gase after practice on Sunday, Aug. 17. 'He's our starting tight end,' the coach said. 'He plays both in-line and he plays off the ball.'

Footballguys view: Herndon has to stay healthy in order to play up to his potential. Fantasy GMs have considered Herndon a deep sleeper before only to see him get suspended, then banged up and barely play (18 snaps in 2019). He's not getting drafted right now in 12-team PPR leagues, but keep Herndon on your waiver wire speed dial just in case they unleash him on offense in 2020.

Jets | High ceiling for Chris Herndon?    Fri Jul 24, 09:16 PM

New York Jets TE Chris Herndon has a chance to become QB Sam Darnold's 'Travis Kelce or Zach Ertz' in 2020, according to Connor Hughes of The Athletic.

Footballguys view: Let's not go crazy with the Kelce/Ertz comparisons here. Yes, Herndon does have upside -- he always has because of his athletic profile and role on the team as the starting tight end. We'd feel better about Herndon and the rest of the Jets offense is they were not under the guidance of Adam Gase. Herndon is a TE2 with TE1 upside you can get late in your drafts.

Jets | Chris Herndon in a bad spot?    Sat Jul 4, 09:27 PM

New York Jets TE Chris Herndon could underwhelm in 2020 because of the way head coach Adam Gase utilizes the tight end position, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN.com. When Gase was with the Miami Dolphins from 2016 to 2018, his tight ends finished with a league-low 150 catches in that span.

Footballguys view: Herndon will also share with Ryan Griffin, who was solid in Herndon's absence and signed to an extension during the season. While he still has some dynasty upside, Herndon probably isn't the answer at tight end this year in redraft leagues.

Jets | NYJ anticipating rebound from Chris Herndon    Wed May 20, 08:33 PM

New York Jets TE Chris Herndon was limited to one game and one catch last season after suffering a setback with his hamstring following his season-opening suspension. However, his lack of time on the field has not dampened the enthusiasm of head coach Adam Gase.'I think everyone can agree that we were all excited to see what he could do going into last year. We felt good about so many things, and it just didn't work out with the suspension and the injury. Then we finally get him on the field and he played like (18) plays. He's a guy that we're excited to get back and can't really wait to get going. And see how he'll fit in with everything,' Gase told the New York Post.

Footballguys view: Remember what Herndon was in 2018 (39 catches, 502 yards, four touchdowns) and remember the excitement that Fantasy GMs had for him entering last year? That could be there again if he's healthy. Was he a flash in the pan or is something more? Herndon has intriguing upside but there are a ton of questions around his game.

Jets | Chris Herndon dealing with another injury    Mon Nov 11, 02:08 PM

New York Jets TE Chris Herndon (ribs) is expected to miss 'an extended amount of time' with a fractured rib, according to head coach Adam Gase.

Footballguys view: Fantasy GMs have moved on long ago. Herndon returned from his six-game suspension and promptly injured his hamstring. That kept him out even longer but Herndon did get back to action in Week 10, catching one pass for seven yards. Now, he's dealing with a somewhat serious rib injury. The Jets will use Ryan Griffin as their starting tight end.

Jets | Chris Herndon quiet in Week 10    Sun Nov 10, 06:34 PM

New York Jets TE Chris Herndon caught one pass for seven yards against the New York Giants in Week 10. He was targeted two times during the game.

Footballguys view: Herndon has represented a long wait for nothing. He is droppable this week as he failed to make a mark against an easy matchup. He could still be a desperation play next week against Washington, but the odds are against him generating momentum at this point.

Jets | Chris Herndon not a lock to play Week 6    Mon Oct 7, 02:51 PM

New York Jets TE Chris Herndon has completed his four-game suspension for violating the league's policy on substance abuse, but head coach Adam Gase told reporters Monday, Oct. 7, that he will need to see Herndon in practice this week before activating him to the 53-man roster.

Footballguys view: Gase with some likely coach-speak here. Herndon is a weapon the team has been sorely missing....along with QB Sam Darnold. Fantasy GMs need to add the athletic tight end via the waiver wire if he's out there.

Jets | Chris Herndon handed four-game ban    Fri Jul 12, 02:55 PM

New York Jets TE Chris Herndon received a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy as a result of pleading guilty to DUI in June of 2018, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Footballguys view: We knew that Herndon was set to be suspended for his 2018 DUI arrest, but most felt it would be a two-game ban. The Jets have a bye in Week 4, so Herndon won't be able to return until Week 6 against the Cowboys. Herndon is a darling for Fantasy GMs looking for a 'sleeper' at the tight end position. He's got a current ADP of TE19 (14.03) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Jets | Chris Herndon studying up    Fri Jul 5, 09:21 PM

New York Jets TE Chris Herndon said he has been focusing on film study and learning the playbook this offseason. 'Before you can get out there and make plays, you have to know where to be and that's probably the most important part,' Herndon said.

Footballguys view: Herndon is a favorite sleeper of some Fantasy GMs out there. The Jets offense should look much better with a more mature Sam Darnold and Le'Veon Bell taking away a lot of attention from the defense. Herndon can be a safe and reliable target for the Jets young quarterback. He's a TE2 with upside who has a current ADP of TE16 (13.11) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Jets | Chris Herndon in line to start    Mon Jul 1, 11:09 AM

New York Jets TE Chris Herndon is pegged to open the season as the starter at tight end. Head coach Adam Gase referred to Herndon as a 'unicorn' with his rare combination of talents.

Footballguys view: Herndon made a big splash as a rookie tight end and could trade off big weeks with a good trio of wide receivers. Gase did try to make Mike Gesicki a better blocker last year instead of focusing on his receiving talents, so hopefully he doesn't have similar designs for his usage of Herndon.

Jets | Chris Herndon facing two-game ban?    Fri Jun 14, 03:51 PM

New York Jets TE Chris Herndon is reportedly 'facing the likelihood' of a two-game suspension for pleading guilty in January to driving while intoxicated, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini.

Footballguys view: This makes Herndon tough to draft in short bench leagues because he'll clog up a valuable roster spot for the first two waiver wire runs. He's still draftable in deep bench and tight end premium leagues, although his absence could open a crack in the door for fourth round pick Trevon Wesco.

Jets | Chris Herndon generating excitement    Fri May 31, 03:08 PM

New York Jets TE Chris Herndon looked 'really good' during organized team activities this week and 'can be a huge red-zone weapon for Darnold and new coach Adam Gase,' according to Brian Costello of the New York Post. Gase called Herndon a 'unicorn type player' in March and seems excited about what he can do with him inside his offense, per Costello.

Footballguys view: Herndon has some upside and we saw him earn the trust of QB Sam Darnold a year ago. He's facing a suspension from the league after pleading to DWI back in January. Herndon finished as the No. 15 fantasy tight end in 2018 and has a current ADP of TE20 (14.04). We like what everyone is saying about him this offseason but need to see how many games he's suspended for.

Jets | Chris Herndon has lofty goals    Fri Dec 28, 10:02 PM

New York Jets TE Chris Herndon said his goal is to become a 'complete tight end' and plans to focus on improving his blocking in the offseason.

Footballguys view: Herndon was a fourth-round pick out of Miami in the 2018 NFL draft. He's had some good games for the Jets as a rookie and currently has 38 catches for 494 yards and four touchdowns. Herndon was mostly known for his athleticism and run-after-the-catch ability but he's got the willingness and strength to be a fine blocker too. He was extremely raw coming out of college, has performed well as a rookie and is a dynasty prospect with an exciting future.
