Chargers | Hunter Henry headed to COVID list    Thu Dec 24, 03:53 PM

Los Angeles Chargers TE Hunter Henry was placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday, Dec. 24.

Footballguys view: That means Henry will miss the game against the Broncos on Sunday. Donald Parham is the next man up and he had two touchdowns earlier this season in a reserve role. The Broncos are weak against the tight end so perhaps Parham is a sneaky (desperate?) 'what the heck' streaming option. Consider him a TE2 with upside.

Los Angeles Chargers TE Hunter Henry (illness) didn't participate in practice Wednesday, Dec. 23.

Footballguys view: We'll see if Henry can get back out there later in the week. It's a sweet matchup against the Broncos on Sunday and Henry is a TE1 if he plays.

Chargers | Hunter Henry scores in win    Fri Dec 18, 01:00 AM

Los Angeles Chargers TE Hunter Henry caught five passes for 65 yards and a touchdown against the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday, Dec. 17.

Footballguys view: Henry started hot in this one and posted his best fantasy game of the year at the exact right time. His outlook will come down a bit if Keenan Allen and Mike Williams are healthy next week, but he looks like a solid TE1 against Denver.

Chargers | LA Chargers' Week 3 injury report    Fri Sep 25, 03:51 PM

Los Angeles Chargers LB Asmar Bilal (calf), DT Justin Jones (shoulder) and QB Tyrod Taylor (ribs, chest) did not practice all week and have been ruled out for Week 3 against the Carolina Panthers. RB Justin Jackson (quad) and LB Nick Vigil (groin) did not practice all week and are listed as doubtful. DE Melvin Ingram (knee) and did not practice Friday, Sept. 25, and is also listed as doubtful. OG Trai Turner (groin) also did not practice Friday but is listed as questionable. S Rayshawn Jenkins (groin) was limited in practice all week and is also listed as questionable. OT Bryan Bulaga (knee) was upgraded to a full practice Friday and is listed as questionable as well. DE Joey Bosa (triceps), TE Hunter Henry (ankle) and DB Desmond King (back) practiced in full on Friday and have been removed from the injury report.

Footballguys view: Ingram is a standout and his absence will help Teddy Bridgewater although Uchenna Nwosu is an up and comer and could show the Chargers that there is a less of a dropoff than they think as Ingram enters free agency next year. Jones has also had a good start to the season and his loss will hurt the defensive line. Vigil being out will get Kyzir White on the field a lot for the second straight week.

Chargers | Hunter Henry unable to reach agreement    Wed Jul 15, 04:27 PM

Los Angeles Chargers TE Hunter Henry did not reach a long-term agreement with the Chargers before the July 15 deadline and will play under the one-year franchise tag tender offer.

Footballguys view: Henry will make 10.6 million this year. If he can stay healthy and produce this year, he'll get a 2021 contract like the four-year $44 million dollar deal fellow 2016 draftee Austin Hooper got from Cleveland this offseason.

Chargers | Hunter Henry not expecting long-term deal    Fri Jul 10, 09:55 PM

Los Angeles Chargers TE Hunter Henry signed his $10.6 million franchise tender this spring, but he remains pessimistic about agreeing to a contract extension with the team less than five days before the July 15 deadline.

Footballguys view: Negotiations for long term deals have slowed down as the league expected lower revenues this year. The cap could be flat or even go down next year, so teams don't want to lock themselves into deals at the current rate. Henry needs to stay healthy this year to earn a long term contract in any event. He could be one of Tyrod Taylor's main targets as Taylor targeted Charles Clay frequently during his stint as the Bills quarterback.

Chargers | Hunter Henry still hoping for extension    Sun May 24, 10:16 AM

Los Angeles Chargers TE Hunter Henry said that he is 'fine' playing under the franchise tag for the 2020 season, although he would still like to agree to a long-term contract extension with the team. Henry said that contract talks have already taken place, although there have been no recent discussions.

Footballguys view: Henry has signed his tender, so he's under a one-year, $10.6 million contract for the 2020 season. He's incredibly talented but has trouble staying healthy. We'll see how his injury history plays into contract negotiations. The NFL deadline for players with franchise tags to sign long-term deals is July 15.

Chargers | Henry Henry among metric's elite    Sat May 23, 02:38 PM

Los Angeles Chargers TE Hunter Henry ranked seventh among all pass-catchers in 2019 with a plus-8.4 percent catch rate above expectation.

Footballguys view: Henry is an outstanding tight end and can make plays others can't. Injuries are his only concern as a pro. If Henry is healthy, he can easily be a top-5 fantasy tight end. Henry has a current ADP of TE8 (7.06) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Chargers | Hunter Henry excited for QB change    Sun May 3, 10:23 PM

Los Angeles Chargers TE Hunter Henry said he is excited to see what a more mobile quarterback can bring to the offense. 'There are so many different things that you can do with a mobile quarterback that can open your offense,' Henry said. 'I'm looking forward to seeing that aspect of our offense grow.'

Footballguys view: Henry and the passing game should be able to take advantage of defenses focused on stopping the run and a running quarterback. The tight end over the middle of the field will provide Tyrod Taylor with a security blanket he could use early and often. We all know Henry is supremely gifted as a tight end. He just needs to stay healthy to produce like a TE1 for Fantasy GMs in 2020.

Chargers | Hunter Henry unsure about new deal    Wed Apr 29, 06:43 PM

Los Angeles Chargers TE Hunter Henry said he is not sure how close he is to a long-term contract with the Chargers. Henry said the two sides were close earlier in the offseason, but the talks were delayed.

Footballguys view: Henry has the franchise tag for 2020 but something can get done before the mid-July deadline. We don't expect anything to be official until that deadline, but you never know if the two sides are agreeable to a deal before then.

Chargers | Hunter Henry officially signs tag    Thu Apr 16, 05:57 PM

Los Angeles Chargers TE Hunter Henry officially signed his franchise tag for the 2020 season Thursday, April 16.

Footballguys view: The tag gives him a one-year, $10.6 million contract. Henry is great when he's healthy, one of the best tight ends in the league, but he struggles to stay on the field due to injury. The team needs him as a security-blanket target for QB Tyrod Taylor in 2020.

Chargers | Hunter Henry could be safety blanket for Tyrod Taylor    Thu Apr 16, 11:15 AM

With veteran QB Tyrod Taylor expected to be the Los Angeles Chargers QB1 entering the season, he may need to rely more on TE Hunter Henry according to Jeff Miller, of the LA Times, as he adjusts to being a starting quarterback again.

Footballguys view: Taylor has been a backup for the most part the past two seasons, throwing just seven passes in the regular season dating back to Week 4 of 2018. Henry missed four games with injury last season, but still had 55 receptions for 652 yards and five touchdowns.

Chargers | Hunter Henry wants to remain in LA long term    Wed Apr 15, 03:32 PM

The expectation is that the Los Angeles Chargers, per the LA Times' Jeff Miller, will eventually sign TE Hunter Henry to a long-term deal before the July 15 deadline. Henry, as reported, signed his one-year, $10.6 million franchise tender recently, but he wants to be with the team long term and the feeling from the Chargers is mutual.

Chargers | Hunter Henry signs tender    Mon Apr 13, 04:52 PM

Los Angeles Chargers franchise free-agent TE Hunter Henry signed his one-year tender offer Monday, April 13, according to a source. He is scheduled to make around $10 million in 2020.

Footballguys view: Henry is a dangerous weapon when healthy, but he's struggled with various injuries during his pro career. He's never played a full 16-game season as a pro, and only made it through 12 games in 2019. If he ever is available for an entire season, Henry should produce at a top-tier level.

Chargers | Hunter Henry receives tag    Fri Mar 13, 01:26 PM

Los Angeles Chargers TE Hunter Henry on Friday, March 13, received the franchise tag.

Footballguys view: Henry is now the highest-paid tight end in the league. The franchise tag will guarantee him a one-year deal worth around $11 million. The Chargers now have until July 15th to work out a new contract. Henry, when healthy, is one of the best tight ends in the league and will be a big part of the Chargers passing game (no matter who is the quarterback) in 2020.

Chargers | Hunter Henry sticking around?    Thu Mar 12, 09:24 PM

Los Angeles Chargers impending free-agent TE Hunter Henry's new contract is a top priority this offseason, according to general manager Tom Telesco. 'We'll figure out all the finances, the cap and the performance, however it fits,' Telesco said. 'He's a draft pick of ours. As you know, our philosophy is to re-sign our own when we can.'

Chargers | Franchise tag likely in Hunter Henry's future    Mon Mar 2, 02:01 PM

Impending free-agent TE Hunter Henry (Chargers) is expected to receive the franchise tag from the Los Angeles Chargers if the two sides are unable to reach a long-term deal before March 12, according to ESPN's Jenna Laine.

Footballguys view: That sounds about right. Henry is super talented but has never played a full 16-game season in his pro career. The franchise tag would run around $11 million for the Chargers to keep him for one more year. However, it would also give them time to find common ground on a new contract.

Chargers | LA Chargers want to lock up Hunter Henry    Thu Feb 27, 11:27 PM

Impending free-agent TE Hunter Henry (Chargers) is becoming a more likely candidate to receive a long-term contract offer from the Los Angeles Chargers than a transition tag in the coming days, according to sources via the Pro Football Network's Tony Pauline.

Footballguys view: GM Tom Telesco said as much earlier in the week. If Henry doesn't hit the market, the price for Austin Hooper will go up with multiple teams in the mix and the Falcons allowing him to walk in free agency.

Chargers | Hunter Henry a possibility for tag    Tue Feb 25, 03:34 PM

Los Angeles Chargers TE Hunter Henry is a candidate to receive the franchise tag for the 2020 season, according to general manager Tom Telesco Tuesday, Feb. 25. Telesco added the goal remains to sign Henry to an extension and talks are continuing.

Footballguys view: The franchise tag window is open on Thursday and Henry could be the player the Chargers choose to use that tag on. Henry is a quality starter when healthy but he does struggle with injury from time to time. We'll have to see if the Chargers and his agent can come to an agreement that is good for both sides. Henry is talented but he's not going to get paid a premium price on the open market.

Chargers | Hunter Henry staying put?    Sun Feb 2, 09:24 PM

Los Angeles Chargers impending free-agent TE Hunter Henry will likely end up signing a four-year deal worth 'somewhere between $34 million and $38 million' over the life of the contract, according to Daniel Popper of The Athletic.

Footballguys view: Those numbers sound right with much lesser tight ends getting about six million per season in recent free agency periods. Staying the Chargers or going to New England are among the possibilities for the productive but not always healthy Henry.

Chargers | Hunter Henry could receive transition tag    Tue Jan 21, 11:16 PM

Impending free-agent TE Hunter Henry is believed to be a candidate for the transition tag if he and the Los Angeles Chargers can't reach a long-term agreement before the start of free agency, according to sources via Pro Football Network's Tony Pauline.

Footballguys view: The transition tag is going to be roughly worth about $9.2 million in 2020. Teams have the same right of first refusal as with franchise tags but do not receive any draft choice compensation for declining to match an offer sheet.

Los Angeles Chargers TE Hunter Henry had four receptions, 30 yards and a touchdown in a Week 10 loss to the Oakland Raiders.

Footballguys view: Henry's short score bailed out his fantasy teams, but it was still a letdown in a great matchup. Henry wasn't getting open downfield and fell down on one of the Philip Rivers interceptions. If the Chargers can't give Rivers time to throw downfield, Henry's weekly ceiling will be a lot lower.
