NFL | Derrius Guice finds no takers    Sun Aug 9, 07:18 PM

Free-agent RB Derrius Guice (Football Team) passed through waivers unclaimed Sunday, Aug. 9.

Footballguys view: Guice has domestic violence charges pending against him and those will need to be cleaned up before another team takes a chance on him.

Football Team | Washington releases Derrius Guice    Fri Aug 7, 07:18 PM

Washington Football Team RB Derrius Guice was released Friday, Aug. 7.

Footballguys view: Guice was arrested on domestic violence charges and the team made a swift move to get rid of the talented but oft-injured running back. This leaves Washington with guys like Adrian Peterson and rookie Antonio Gibson to compete for the starting job. Yes, Peyton Barber, Bryce Love and J.D. McKissic is there to compete as well.

Football Team | Derrius Guice arrested    Fri Aug 7, 06:53 PM

Washington Football Team RB Derrius Guice was arrested Friday, Aug. 7, and has been charged with one count of felony strangulation, three counts of assault and battery and one count of destruction of property.

Footballguys view: The strangulation count is especially troubling. Washington has had a very rough year in public relations and Ron Rivera has been trusted with a culture reset, so Guice has been released. Adrian Peterson moves up a few rounds on our draft boards, but is still not essential, while Guice becomes an end of the draft pick who could still spend the whole season on the commissioner's exempt list - if he finds a new team, which is a big if.

Football Team | Derrius Guice gets the green light    Mon Jul 27, 04:43 PM

Updating previous reports, Washington Football Team RB Derrius Guice (knee) was cleared for football activities Monday, July 27.

Footballguys view: Great news for Guice and the Washington Football Team here. We all know that Guice has incredible ability as a runner but he has had trouble staying healthy in the pros. Washington has a jam-packed backfield but Guice is set to be the top back...if he can stay off the injury report. Guice has a current ADP of RB34 (7.05) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Redskins | Some clarity in Washington backfield?    Wed Jun 17, 10:33 PM

Washington Redskins RBs Adrian Peterson and Derrius Guice will likely split carries to begin the season, while RB J.D. McKissic serves as the third-down back, according to Kyle Stackpole of the team's website. Stackpole also expects RB Antonio Gibson to be used 'in all sorts of different plays and formations.' However, he's not sure what kind of role would be left for RB Bryce Love.

Footballguys view: That's a little bit of clarity in a jumbled situation. This is a three-headed RBBC with Antonio Gibson working as a RB/WR to make it four mouths to feed at the position. It's good for Washington but bad for Fantasy GMs trying to navigate this jam-packed room.

Redskins | Adrian Peterson could see reduced workload    Sat May 23, 10:18 AM

Washington Redskins RB Adrian Peterson is likely to see a reduced workload in 2020, due to the offseason acquisitions of RBs Peyton Barber and J.D. McKissic, the selection of RB/WR Antonio Gibson in the draft and the returns of RBs Derrius Guice and Bryce Love from knee injuries. However, there is a possibility that the Redskins could have multiple running backs on the field at the same time, based on early Zoom meetings Peterson has had with the coaching staff.

Footballguys view: Peterson brings plenty of power to the Washington backfield, something most of the other backs listed do not have. This is a talented group of running backs if they're all healthy, and it will be interesting to see who emerges from the cluster. From a fantasy perspective, this Washington RBBC is going to be problematic to predict.

Redskins | Derrius Guice on track for 2020    Wed Feb 26, 04:51 PM

Washington Redskins RB Derrius Guice (knee) should be ready for the start of the 2020 season, according to vice president of player personnel Kyle Smith.

Footballguys view: Guice has the ability to be a damn good featured back in the NFL...if he's ever healthy for a long stretch of time. The last two seasons have been eliminated or cut short due to knee problems. We'll see if Guice can finally stay healthy and play up to the potential he's always had.

Redskins | Derrius Guice healthy again    Fri Jan 31, 09:16 PM

Washington Redskins RB Derrius Guice (knee) said he has fully recovered from the knee injury that sent him to the Reserve/Injured list at the end of last season, and he is focused on proving he can be a reliable back. 'I want to show the whole thing,' Guice said. 'I want everybody to see everything.'

Footballguys view: Guice is a talented runner but he just can't stay healthy. He missed his entire rookie season in 2018 and then only made it through five games in 2019. Guice has the talent to be a special back at the pro level if he could only make it through a season unscathed.

Footballguys view: He'll be out in Week 15, and he could miss the rest of the season. Washington turns back to Adrian Peterson as their lead running back. Chris Thompson should get plenty of work as a change-of-pace back and has flex appeal for Fantasy GMs in PPR leagues.

Washington Redskins RB Derrius Guice posted 10 runs for 129 yards and two touchdowns in Week 13 against the Carolina Panthers and he added two catches for eight yards.

Footballguys view: Guice is all the way back and the Panthers had no answer for him. He is still in an equal timeshare with Adrian Peterson, but he is at least in flex consideration next week against a Packers run defense that has been weak at times this year.

Washington Redskins RB Derrius Guice (knee) had surgery Thursday, Sept. 12, to trim a torn meniscus in his knee, according to sources. Guice is out indefinitely.

Footballguys view: Guice is out at least four weeks, but possibly as many as eight. The Washington running game wasn't something we wanted to rely on in fantasy leagues anyway, so he's droppable in short bench leagues, and maybe in typical leagues.

Updating a previous report, Washington Redskins RB Derrius Guice (knee) is dealing with a meniscus injury and hopes to miss only a few weeks, according to a source. Guice is still waiting for an official diagnosis.

Footballguys view: This is not for the knee that knocked him out all of last year. Guice has natural talent as a runner but he's banged up quite a bit. We'll see Adrian Peterson as the starter for Washington while Guice is down.

Redskins | Derrius Guice suffered another knee injury    Mon Sep 9, 12:46 PM

Washington Redskins RB Derrius Guice (knee) underwent an MRI on his knee Monday, Sept. 9, and is likely to 'miss some time,' according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Footballguys view: That's really unfortunate as Guice has a ton of natural talent as a runner. Now that he's got to miss time, Washington will turn back to Adrian Peterson to lead the way. Peterson was a healthy scratch for the first time in his pro career on Sunday while Guice got the start. The injury is not to the same knee that sidelined Guice for the entire 2018 season.

Washington Redskins RB Derrius Guice will get more carries than Adrian Peterson, according to comments made by head coach Jay Gruden to reporters Monday, Sept. 2.

Footballguys view: Guice has a ton of talent if he can stay healthy and play up to that natural potential. He's working in a RBBC with Peterson this year after missing his entire rookie season in 2018. The matchup against the Eagles in Week 1 is a tough one for Washington's ground game and their bad offensive line.

Redskins | Coach impressed by Derrius Guice    Fri Aug 23, 11:46 PM

Washington Redskins RB Derrius Guice's performance against the Atlanta Falcons Thursday, Aug. 22, impressed head coach Jay Gruden. 'Looked like he was decisive with his cuts for the most part, ran with some power at times, moved the pile when there wasn't anything there,' Gruden said.

Footballguys view: Guice is an impressive player and incredibly natural as a runner. However, he's coming back from a knee injury that cost him all of his rookie season in 2018. Guice also had a few setbacks during his recovery, so select him knowing the risks. Also know that Washington will use Adrian Peterson and Guice in some form of RBBC this season.

Washington Redskins RB Derrius Guice rushed 11 times for 44 yards and caught one pass for four yards in a 19-7 preseason win over the Atlanta Falcons Thursday, Aug. 22.

Footballguys view: Guice looked great and should be the best thing about an offense that will likely be the worst in the NFC. He's in a three man committee, but his ADP has fallen enough to make him at least worth considering.

Washington Redskins RB Derrius Guice (knee) is scheduled to play Thursday, Aug. 22, in a preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons.

Redskins | Derrius Guice still waiting for approval    Tue Aug 13, 02:09 PM

Washington Redskins RB Derrius Guice (knee) has been participating in practices this summer but has yet to receive clearance to play in a game, and he told ESPN's John Keim on Tuesday, Aug. 13, that he's not sure when he'll play in the preseason.

Footballguys view: Guice has a ton of talent as a runner but a knee injury cost him all of the 2018 season. He missed his rookie season last year and we're excited to see him in his first regular season game action. Guice is back now, but it did take more time than originally thought to recover from his knee injury and there were a few setbacks along the way.

Redskins | Derrius Guice may skip preseason game    Tue Aug 6, 09:51 PM

Washington Redskins RB Derrius Guice may not play in the preseason game Thursday, Aug. 8, according to head coach Jay Gruden.

Footballguys view: We're excited to see Guice on the field whenever he's ready for the work. Guice missed all of his rookie season in 2018 due to a knee injury and has had quite a few setbacks over the last year as he recovers. It doesn't seem like Guice has been limited during training camp, but the team wants to be careful with him in the exhibition season.

Redskins | Derrius Guice not limited in practice    Thu Jul 25, 03:19 PM

Washington Redskins RB Derrius Guice told reporters he was 'a full participant day one' on Thursday, July 25.

Footballguys view: Guice's knee injury cost him all of his rookie season. He's had more than a few setbacks since surgery last year but seems to be good to go now. We'll see if Guice can push Adrian Peterson for the top spot in Washington's backfield.

Redskins | Derrius Guice a full participant    Wed Jul 24, 04:15 PM

Washington Redskins RB Derrius Guice (hamstring, knee) has been cleared to practice and will be a full participant during training camp, according to head coach Jay Gruden.

Footballguys view: It has been a long and winding road for Guice to come back since the ACL tear suffered last preseason. He's in a tough spot to expect success, especially if Trent Williams doesn't report, but this is a rare piece of good news about him over the last year.

Redskins | Derrius Guice not worried about hamstring    Sun Jul 14, 01:11 PM

Washington Redskins RB Derrius Guice (hamstring) indicated that his hamstring injury is not serious.

Footballguys view: It was reported late last week that Guice injured his hamstring while rehabbing and is going to be questionable for the start of training camp. Guice missed all of his rookie season in 2018 due to a knee injury and now this injury could at least limit him when he's ready to return. He has a ton of talent when at full strength, but Guice also has to split time with Adrian Peterson. His current ADP might be too rich for some as Guice is going off the board at RB30 (6.09) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Redskins | Derrius Guice injures hamstring    Fri Jul 12, 03:58 PM

Washington Redskins RB Derrius Guice (hamstring, knee) 'tweaked' his hamstring several weeks ago as he was continuing his rehab from ACL surgery. According to 106.7 The Fan contributor Erin Hawksworth via sources, Guice may miss the start of training camp as a result.

Footballguys view: Guice just can't catch a break. He missed all of his rookie season in 2018 due to a knee injury and now this. A hamstring injury can linger, so expect Washington to take it easy on him as he deals with coming back from yet another injury. When healthy, Guice will get some work alongside Adrian Peterson in Washington's backfield.

Redskins | Derrius Guice to take over?    Sat Jun 8, 10:23 PM

Washington Redskins RB Derrius Guice (knee) will 'be the guy right away' in the backfield if he looks healthy in training camp, in the opinion of John Keim of ESPN.com.

Footballguys view: The if is big considering the extra procedures Guice had to have done on his injured knee, but he should be more impactful than Adrian Peterson if he is healthy. The bigger issue for Guice's production this year will be quarterback play and the possibility of Trent Williams being gone if the team can't make him happy this offseason.

Redskins | Derrius Guice likely ready for training camp    Mon May 20, 02:30 PM

Washington Redskins RB Derrius Guice (knee) has reportedly 'made good progress' and is expected to take part fully in training camp, according to comments made by head coach Jay Gruden on Monday, May 20.'Derrius is coming along very well. We're just trying to make sure that leg - his quad and everything - is full strength before we let him go. That will probably be another thing we'll wait for training camp as well,' Gruden said.

Footballguys view: Guice missed all of his rookie season in 2018 due to this knee injury and he's had a rocky road during his recovery. If he can regain his speed, Guice has the potential to be a quality starter in the NFL. Guice is behind Adrian Peterson on the depth chart but could be groomed as the RB of the future in Washington.

Washington Redskins RB Derrius Guice (knee) is able to sprint in a straight line but is still not able to do any lateral movements at full speed yet. He also wants to build the strength in his legs over the next few months.

Footballguys view: Guice missed all of his rookie season with this knee injury. He's suffered some setbacks during his recovery and may not be ready to go until near training camp. Keep an eye on this situation as Guice is a talented runner if he can regain his full strength.

Redskins | Derrius Guice continues progress    Thu Feb 7, 09:50 PM

Washington Redskins RB Derrius Guice (knee) has progressed to the point that he is able to sprint at full speed.

Footballguys view: That's good news but he's far from being back at full strength. Guice injured his knee in the preseason but we learned back in December that he needed three more procedures to correct the initial surgery. If he continues to progress at a good rate, Guice should be ready some time around training camp.

Redskins | Adrian Peterson has talked to Washington    Tue Feb 5, 03:10 PM

Washington Redskins RB Adrian Peterson has had preliminary discussions in regards to staying on the team in 2019, according to ESPN.com's John Keim. Keim posits that Peterson would be a valuable pairing for RB Derrius Guice (knee), who is coming off a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Footballguys view: Guice has plenty of natural talent when healthy, but his recovery from the ACL that cost him his entire rookie season has not gone smoothly. Peterson showed he can still get it done as a starting back and would give Washington a good option in case Guice isn't quite himself for the start of the 2019 season.

Redskins | Derrius Guice back on the field    Thu Jan 17, 10:10 PM

Washington Redskins RB Derrius Guice (knee) posted a video of himself on social media running and doing other drills on the field.

Footballguys view: In December of 2018, the Washington Post reported that an infection Guice's torn ACL required three additional knee surgeries. The 2018 second-round pick tore his ACL back in the preseason but has not had the smoothest of recoveries. The video is cool and a good sign, but we still think Guice is limited in OTAs this spring...if he's even a participant. We might not know much about his status until the start of training camp. Stay tuned.

Washington Redskins RB Derrius Guice (knee) required three additional procedures following August surgery to repair his ACL due to an infection, all of which has slowed his rehab. Guice is no longer dealing with the infection, however, and still hopes to be ready for OTAs next summer.
