Bob McGinn, of The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, reports the Green Bay Packers have all but dismissed the possibility of signing a veteran backup QB like Brian Griese (Buccaneers) or Gus Frerotte (Vikings).
Footballguys view: The team is happy with Matt Flynn and Brian Brohm as the backups to starter Aaron Rodgers. Flynn won the #2 job last season, and Brohm was a big disappointment in his rookie season. Reports about Brohm this offseason have been positive and he should present strong competition to Flynn in training camp. |

Mike Reiss, of the Boston Globe, answered "Even though Matt Cassel was remarkable last year, and Kevin O'Connell shows promise, I like the idea of a Brian Griese-like acquisition. I think "concern" is a strong word, but my thought would be "why not?" with a guy like Griese, assuming he's interested" when asked if Patriots fans should be concerned by the lack of sufficient back up QB.
Footballguys view: Cassel had three years in the system before last year, O'Connell has had one. The Pats would be smart to pick up a veteran like Griese if they can. |

Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports Ralph Cindrich, agent for unrestricted free-agent QB Brian Griese (Buccaneers), said Griese is looking to play for a team this season.
Footballguys view: Griese went from the Buccaneers to the Bears, and then back to the Buccaneers. Now, after having been released he may actually end up back in Chicago. The team may decide to bring in a veteran QB to be the backup to Jay Cutler. However, second-year QB Caleb Hanie has impressed the coaching staff and the Bears may decide to only carry two quarterbacks throughout the season. We don't expect Griese's phone to ring off the hook with job offers. |

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced Monday, July 13, that they have released QB Brian Griese.
Footballguys view: Finally! Former Bucs coach Jon Gruden seemed to collect quarterbacks, but when Raheem Morris took over he seemed to have the same hobby. This move has been anticipated for some time now, but we'll have to wait and see if any team is anxious to sign the journeyman quarterback right off the bat. |

Anwar Richardson, of The Tampa Tribune, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Brian Griese is expected to be released soon.
Footballguys view: The Buccaneers can't keep all of their quarterbacks, and Griese may have to wait awhile before another teams feels like offering him a contract. |

PewterReport.com reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Brian Griese could be fined as much as $8,000 for his absence from the team's mandatory minicamp.
Footballguys view: It would be ridiculous for the team to fine a player they don't want to attend minicamp. It's a possibility, but in the end they should simply release Griese and let some other team pick him up. |

Pat Yasinskas, of ESPN.com, reports the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are holding out hope that they can trade QB Brian Griese and get some value in return, but that likely will not happen.
Footballguys view: We have to go Ricky Watters here and say "for who, for what?!?" The Bucs are unlikely to trade Griese for more than a laundry bin of used athletic supporters. He will most likely be released before the start of training camp. |

Roy Cummings, of the Tampa Tribune, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Brian Griese was not on the field at the start of the team's minicamp.
Footballguys view: Earlier this year Griese was negotiating his release and is not a part of the team's plans for the 2009 season. The Bucs already have 4 very capable QBs on their roster, and will most likely only carry 3 for the regular season. |

Stephen Holder, of the St. Petersburg Times, reports the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are anxious to see if OG Arron Sears and B Brian Griese will attend the team's mandatory minicamp. Sears might be excused as he is dealing with an unspecified personal issue. Griese is disenchanted with his place on the depth chart and expects to be released.

Footballguys view: Some players, including White, Williams, Stovall and Sears, were believed to be receiving treatment during practice. Ruu and Penn's absences are believed to be contract-related. |

Alex Marvez, of FOXSports.com, reports the New England Patriots may be interested in Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Brian Griese, who is expected to be released this week.
Footballguys view: Brian Griese + Bill Belichick = good things for Griese's career. Right now the Pats have 2nd year man Kevin O'Connell as the primary backup to Tom Brady. He is a big, athletic QB who the Patriots were impressed with last season but he is far from proven. Matt Guiterrez and Brian Hoyer will battle for the #3 spot - but Griese could come in and force one of those guys to the practice squad. |

Alex Marvez, of FOXSports.com, repots Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Brian Griese is expected to be released later this week, according to sources.
Footballguys view: This is not a surprise as the Bucs already have 4 other capable QBs on their roster. Griese should be able to catch on with another team, but his chances of starting are slim. |

PewterReport.com reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE Kellen Winslow, LB Barrett Ruud, OG Arron Sears, FB Byron Storer, RB Cadillac Williams and QB Brian Griese did not take part in the team's OTA session Wednesday, May 13.

Charlie Campbell, of PewterReport.com, reports it is believed Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Brian Griese is a likely candidate to be released or traded.
Footballguys view: With Luke McCown, Byron Leftwich, Josh Freeman, and Josh Johnson already on the roster it seems likely that Griese is not going to be a member of the Bucs any longer. This is the main reason why he is staying away from OTAs. |

Rick Stroud, of the St. Petersburg Times, reports the Tampa Bay Buccaneers do not expect QB Brian Griese to attend their organized team activities this week.
Footballguys view: We may have seen the last of Griese in a Bucs uniform. Tampa Bay loves to collect QBs and are expected to take 4 of them into training camp: Josh Freeman, Byron Leftwich, Luke McCown, and Josh Johnson. Griese still has ability as a backup and should look for a roster spot elsewhere. |

Stephen F. Holder, of the St. Petersburg Times, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Brian Griese could be expendable after the signing of QB Byron Leftwich. The team could also part with QB Josh Johnson, however he is said to have significant upside.
