Footballguys view: Gordon got strep throat the same week that he was cited for a DUI. Any team or league discipline may still be upcoming for the veteran back. Phillip Lindsay is back this week for the Broncos and he'll lead the way at the running back position. Royce Freeman will work as his primary backup.

Footballguys view: Gordon was cited for a DUI and ticketed for speeding between 25-39 mph over the limit by Denver Police Department, court and police documents show late Tuesday night. Fangio says there will be some discipline for Gordon due to this incident. Good thing Phillip Lindsay is back in action this week for the Broncos.

Broncos | Melvin Gordon cited for DUI    Wed Oct 14, 11:04 AM

Denver Broncos RB Melvin Gordon was cited late Tuesday, Oct. 13, and charged with driving under the influence and ticketed for speeding between 25-39 mph over the limit by Denver Police Department, court and police documents show.

Footballguys view: Gordon was one of the most outspoken players on the Broncos roster about losing the bye week (the game against the Patriots was postponed the day before it was supposed to happen in Week 5). Well, the league may give him a few bye weeks due to this situation. Good thing the Broncos are getting Phillip Lindsay back this week. We'll see what discipline is coming down for Gordon from the Broncos or the league.

Denver Broncos RB Melvin Gordon carried the ball 23 times for 107 yards and a pair of touchdowns during the team's Week 4 win over the New York Jets. Gordon added two receptions for 11 yards.

Footballguys view: Gordon had a long touchdown to ice the game or he would have had a more pedestrian result against the Jets. Phillip Lindsay should be back next week vs. New England to push Gordon down to a flex play.

Broncos | Melvin Gordon back on field    Mon Aug 24, 09:35 PM

Denver Broncos RB Melvin Gordon (rib) participate in practice Monday, Aug. 24.

Footballguys view: Gordon is supposed to be the lead back for the Broncos but he can't shake Phillip Lindsay in practice. This ribs injury doesn't help his chances of having the top role in the backfield. The Broncos may have closer to a 50/50 split at running back...maybe even the hot hand approach...than some thought originally.

Broncos | Melvin Gordon remains sidelined    Sun Aug 23, 01:38 PM

Denver Broncos RB Melvin Gordon (rib) did not participate in practice Sunday, Aug. 23.

Footballguys view: This injury isn't serious, but it would be comforting to see Gordon return to practice next week. In the meantime, Royce Freeman should get more opportunities to show that he deserves some touches. The team also likes UDFA Levante Bellamy at running back.

Broncos | Melvin Gordon day-to-day    Fri Aug 21, 05:24 PM

Denver Broncos RB Melvin Gordon (rib) did not participate in practice Friday, Aug. 21, and is considered day-to-day.

Footballguys view: This won't be an issue that affects his Week 1 availability, but it will give Phillip Lindsay a continued opportunity to show that he deserves to be in a 50-50 split with Gordon.

Broncos | Melvin Gordon leaves early    Thu Aug 20, 02:18 PM

Denver Broncos RB Melvin Gordon (rib) left practice early Thursday, Aug. 20, because of a rib injury. Head coach Vic Fangio said he does not know the severity of Gordon's injury.

Footballguys view: Rib injuries can be painful for running backs as they take a beating between the tackles. Gordon is set to be the lead back for the Broncos but Phillip Lindsay is looking good in practice and could have a larger role than some think. Bump Gordon's ADP down a bit while raising the ADP (and expectations) for Lindsay in 2020.

Broncos | Melvin Gordon built for Denver's system?    Tue May 19, 03:21 PM

Denver Broncos RB Melvin Gordon says his new team's offensive system will 'help me get back to what I do best' and the Los Angeles Chargers' system 'wasn't built for me.'

Footballguys view: Gordon was a big-play back in college at Wisconsin. He has the speed to make field-flipping plays but with the Chargers he was more of a grinder. Gordon was good at that, picking up third downs regularly, and he certainly has a nose for the end zone. With the Broncos, OC Pat Shurmur's system will feature him as a the lead back with plenty of opportunities to gash defenses. Last year's starter Phillip Lindsay will get work in the backfield too as the team wants to keep both fresh.

Broncos | Royce Freeman the odd man out?    Fri May 15, 09:21 PM

Denver Broncos RB Royce Freeman accounted for 32.3 percent of the carries in 2019 and 33 percent in 2018, and he 'appears to be the odd man out' of the running back rotation in 2020 following the addition of RB Melvin Gordon, according to Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com.

Footballguys view: Freeman has disappointed in two seasons with the Broncos. He was supposed to be the starter each of the last two years but he's been beaten out by 2018 undrafted free agent Phillip Lindsay. With the addition of Gordon, we should not see much of Freeman. New OC Pat Shurmur usually only uses one running back, and Gordon is the top man in Denver. We think Lindsay gets mixed in a bit more as well due to his talent and productivity but there is only a small handful of touches available for Freeman if the backs above him on the depth chart stay healthy.

Broncos | Melvin Gordon eyeing revenge games    Sat Apr 18, 01:45 PM

Denver Broncos RB Melvin Gordon said recently he's relishing the opportunity to face his former team, the Los Angeles Chargers, twice a year. 'Ah man, I'm looking forward to it,' Gordon said on Sirius XM NFL Radio. 'I'm definitely looking forward to it. It's gonna be exciting. I still hang out with them, they talk trash to me. It is what it is, I'll see them boys on Sunday.'

Footballguys view: Gordon stays within the AFC West and he will face the Chargers twice a year as the Broncos lead back. So long as he stays healthy, Gordon should put up great numbers under new Broncos offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur.

Broncos | Melvin Gordon motivated    Fri Mar 27, 01:33 PM

Denver Broncos RB Melvin Gordon said during a conference call Friday, March 27, that he's carrying a chip on his shoulder entering the 2020 season. 'It's huge,' Gordon said. 'A lot of people doubt my talent as a back. ... I'm going to use that as fuel. I know the player I am, I want to show that, and I'm going to show that. I'm going to show everybody I'm better than just average.'

Footballguys view: Gordon is going to be the feature back for the Broncos in 2020. He's got a nose for the end zone, can pick up short-yardage situations and is a good receiver out of the backfield. Fantasy GMs can look to Gordon as a player with RB1 upside.

Broncos | Melvin Gordon eager for pairing     Fri Mar 27, 12:22 PM

Denver Broncos RB Melvin Gordon on Friday, March 27, said he's looking forward to joining holdover Phillip Lindsay in the Denver backfield. 'He (Lindsay) is a great back,' Gordon said. 'I watched him up close, in person, and these past few days I've been watching film on him as well. ... I think we could be a great one-two punch.'

Footballguys view: Gordon is going to be the bellcow for the Broncos in 2020 and Lindsay will be his backup. New Broncos offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur goes with one bellcow back and the reserve back doesn't get many touches. If healthy, Gordon should touch the ball around 300 times this season and has RB1 upside for Fantasy GMs.

Denver Broncos RB Melvin Gordon is believed to be in line for a bell-cow role in 2020, according to James Palmer of NFL Network Thursday, March 26.

Updating a previous story, free-agent RB Melvin Gordon (Chargers) agreed to terms on a two-year deal with the Denver Broncos Friday, March 20, according to a source. The deal is reportedly worth $16 million with $13.5 million guaranteed.

Footballguys view: Gordon will now be the lead back with the Broncos. Sure, Phillip Lindsay will get worked in as well but we expect Gordon to lead the team in carries. We'll see if Lindsay can improve as a receiver and fill that Austin Ekeler-like role behind Gordon.

Bills | Buffalo interested in Melvin Gordon    Thu Mar 19, 06:03 PM

Free-agent RB Melvin Gordon (Chargers) is drawing interest from the Buffalo Bills, according to a source Thursday, March 19.

Footballguys view: Gordon has seen the market much softer for his services than he planned on. The Bills have Devin Singletary but could see Gordon as a fine option to work in a RBBC with the second-year pro.

Bills | Buffalo eyeing Melvin Gordon    Thu Mar 19, 02:49 PM

Free-agent RB Melvin Gordon (Chargers) is drawing interest from the Buffalo Bills, who have spoken with Gordon's representatives, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Bills already made a power move when they traded for WR Stefon Diggs. Now, they'll be turning their sights to adding more talent to the backfield. They already have second-year pro Devin Singletary and adding Gordon would cut into his fantasy value. We'll see if the Bills can land the veteran back to pair up with Singletary.

Free-agent RB Melvin Gordon (Chargers) hasn't received a contract offer 'remotely close' to the deal $10 million annual deal offered by the Los Angeles Chargers in 2019.

Dolphins | Miami in the mix for Melvin Gordon?    Sun Mar 15, 12:24 AM

Los Angeles Chargers impending free-agent RB Melvin Gordon is expected to receive interest from the Miami Dolphins, according to sources, and Gordon would have interest in joining Miami 'at the right price.'

Footballguys view: The Dolphins could use a veteran like Gordon in the backfield. When healthy, Gordon is an effective runner and receiver out of the backfield. The Dolphins are the most running back needy team in the league, so expect them to explore free agency and the draft for upgrades.

Chargers | Melvin Gordon to hit market     Thu Mar 5, 01:10 PM

Los Angeles Chargers RB Melvin Gordon, a pending free agent, is planning to test the market, per source, according to a report Thursday, March 5.

Footballguys view: Zero surprise here. Gordon held out last year to get a new deal but to no avail. He might be best in a RBBC but Gordon can handle a starter's workload and should have more than a few teams interested if the price is right.

Chargers | Melvin Gordon expected to move on    Wed Jan 8, 01:11 AM

Los Angeles Chargers RB Melvin Gordon is 'unlikely to return' to the club in 2020, in the opinion of ESPN's Eric D. Williams. Gordon is set to become an unrestricted free agent.

Footballguys view: Zero surprise here. Gordon held out to get a new contract with the Chargers in 2019 but to no avail. The Chargers even tried to trade Gordon but could not get any interest. The former first-round pick (2015) only has one 1,000-yard season to his credit and has battled the injury bug during his career. He'll get some interest but the market may not be as hot for his services as he'd want. Fantasy GMs have are best to take a wait-and-see approach with Gordon to see where he lands before getting too excited or dismayed about his 2020 potential.
