Cardinals | Kenyan Drake not worried about contract    Wed Jul 15, 07:47 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Kenyan Drake said he is not worried about his contract situation and believes he will receive an extension at some point.

Footballguys view: Unlike franchise tag players, Drake and Cardinals can still negotiate because they used the transition tag on him. If Drake performs the same way he did last year down the stretch, the Cardinals will probably sign him to a long term deal in 2021. Chase Edmonds and Eno Benjamin's dynasty value will hinge on Drake's future status.

Cardinals | Kyler Murray works out with teammates    Mon Jun 29, 05:06 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray worked out with a number of his teammates Monday, June 29. WR DeAndre Hopkins, WR Christian Kirk, RB Kenyan Drake, RB Chase Edmonds and TE Maxx Williams are among the players participating in the workout.

Footballguys view: Just like a grip of other quarterbacks around the league, Murray is taking it upon himself to lead workouts. This virtual offseason is going to have an impact on teams, but these workouts can help further build or establish chemistry between a quarterback and his weapons. Murray is a QB1 for Fantasy GMs in 2020 and it wouldn't surprise us to see him finish as a top-5 fantasy quarterback.

Cardinals | Screen plays worked out well for Kenyan Drake    Tue Jun 23, 10:10 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Kenyan Drake picked up at least 15 yards on screen passes six times in 2019 - tied with the Jacksonville Jaguars RB Chris Thompson for the second-most by any NFL running back last season.

Footballguys view: Drake showed up in Arizona and made big plays from day one. What a perfect fit he was and is for the Kliff Kingsbury offense. The unit is one of the most high-powered offenses in the league, meaning that Drake should once again be able to take advantage of screens in 2020.

Cardinals | Kenyan Drake embracing opportunity    Sat Jun 13, 01:08 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Kenyan Drake is eager for the opportunity to serve as his team's clear-cut No. 1 running for the first time in his five NFL seasons. 'I'm looking forward to, one, putting myself in the best situation; two, be available to be able to do that,' Drake said in an interview in May. 'I had I guess a couple injuries in college that prohibited from me being available on the field. Since I've been in the league, I've been fairly healthy. I'm really just trying to put my body in a situation where I can take a load or get X amount of carries or touches in general.'

Footballguys view: Drake was ho-hum during his time with the Dolphins but he immediately exploded onto the scene when the Cardinals picked him up last year. He should be able to thrive in the wide-open Kliff Kingsbury offense which now features superstar WR DeAndre Hopkins as the lead target. Drake won't see many stacked boxes this season and should pay off as a RB1 for Fantasy GMs out there.

Cardinals | Kenyan Drake adept at moving the chains    Tue Jun 9, 10:24 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Kenyan Drake picked up a first down on 42 of his 123 carries with the team following his trade from the Miami Dolphins in 2019, leading to a league-best first-down rate of 34.1 percent (among players with at least 100 rushing attempts).

Footballguys view: Drake was fantastic working in the Cardinals offense. Now, heading into the full season as 'the man' with the Cardinals we should see Drake perform like a RB1 for Fantasy GMs. He has a current ADP of RB5 (1.09) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Cardinals | Heavy workload for Kenyan Drake?    Sat May 23, 09:11 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Kenyan Drake 'could pass 350 touches if he stays healthy' in 2020, in the opinion of Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com.

Footballguys view: That would be a career high for Drake and might be a bit too high to project 350 for his touches number. Something around 250-270 touches sounds about right given the fact that the Cardinals have multiple weapons to feature in the offense. Drake should catch around 50 passes, so give him about 200 carries and he could be plenty productive. In fact, the space that he may be working with this year because of the weapons at wide receiver could really opens things up for Drake.

Cardinals | Kenyan Drake thrived on off-tackle runs    Mon May 18, 10:02 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Kenyan Drake averaged a league-best 8.1 yards per carry (minimum 100 attempts) on off-tackle runs in 2019, according to Sports Info Solutions.

Footballguys view: Drake did a great job with the Cardinals last year. He was not used properly with the Dolphins but things were unlocked for him in Arizona. Fantasy GMs are incredibly excited about the Cardinals offense in 2020. Drake should finish the season as a top-12 fantasy running back this season.

Cardinals | Kenyan Drake hopes to sign long-term deal    Sun May 3, 01:08 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Kenyan Drake said he was fine with receiving the franchise tag this offseason and hopes the two sides will be able to reach a long-term contract at some point.

Footballguys view: The fresh start Drake had with the Cardinals last year was outstanding. He was not a consistently productive player with the Dolphins, but he immediately showed what kind of large impact he could have in the NFL when he was traded to the Cardinals. He's playing on the franchise tag for now, which means the two sides have until July 15th to get a long-term deal done.

Cardinals | Eno Benjamin unlikely to play much early    Sun Apr 26, 01:15 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Eno Benjamin is not expected to receive many offensive snaps during his rookie season since he is behind RBs Kenyan Drake and Chase Edmonds on the depth chart.

Footballguys view: We'll be monitoring Benjamin closely in dynasty formats. He's got elusiveness and some pop to his game as a runner. Benjamin can stay on the field all three downs as he's a good receiving option.

Cardinals | Kenyan Drake could get long-term deal    Thu Apr 16, 11:21 AM

Arizona Cardinals general manager Steve Keim, as an update to previous reports, said he has spoken with RB Kenyan Drake's agent, Pat Dye, Jr., about signing Drake to a long-term deal.

Footballguys view: Drake has been re-signed to a one-year deal already, but Keim has made it clear the team would like Drake to remain with the Cardinals for longer than that.

Cardinals | Arizona wants Kenyan Drake long-term    Wed Apr 15, 10:09 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Kenyan Drake has already signed his one-year transition tag for $8.4 million, but general manager Steve Keim told the team's official website on Wednesday, April 15, that Drake is a player the team would 'like to have long-term.'

Footballguys view: Drake was a great addition for the Cardinals last year. He wasn't utilized to the best of his ability with the Dolphins and needed a fresh start. He got that with the move to Arizona and paid off in a big way. The team should be able to find a number that makes both sides happy.

Cardinals | Arizona could add third RB for offense    Thu Apr 9, 06:52 PM

Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury said the third running back spot behind RB Kenyan Drake and RB Chase Edmonds may still be open following the re-signing of RB D.J. Foster. 'We think he has a good skill set,' Kingsbury said in regard to Foster, 'but that's an area we'd like to have three that you feel like we could roll through and not lose much.'

Footballguys view: The Cardinals should add another running back in the 2020 NFL draft. In the Kingsbury offense, expect them to look for a back who can catch passes and stay on the field all three downs if called upon.

Cardinals | Kenyan Drake officially signs tender    Thu Mar 26, 06:09 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Kenyan Drake officially signed his transition tag tender Thursday, March 26, according to sources.

Footballguys view: His transition tag means that Drake will make around $8.4 million in 2020. He's the lead back for the Cardinals and looked like a great fit last year after he was added via trade from the Dolphins. Drake is a RB1 for Fantasy GMs and should be a big piece of what the Cardinals do on offense in 2020.

Cardinals | Kenyan Drake signs transition tender    Sat Mar 21, 12:32 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Kenyan Drake on Saturday, March 21, signed his transition-tag tender offer.

Footballguys view: The Cardinals didn't want to lose Drake, so that's why they put the transition tag on him. With David Johnson traded away to the Texans, this is clearly Drake's backfield and he's an RB1 for Fantasy GMs in this fast-break offense. Signing a longer-term deal also remains a possibility for Drake this offseason.

Cardinals | Kenyan Drake has transition tag    Mon Mar 16, 11:21 AM

Arizona Cardinals impending free-agent RB Kenyan Drake received the transition tag Monday, March 16.

Footballguys view: The Cardinals want to work something out with Drake and the transition tag gives them right of refusal if another team wants to sign him away. We'll see if they can trade away David Johnson, although his contract makes that highly unlikely. Drake was fantastic as their lead back and provides RB1 value for Fantasy GMs returning in the same role in 2020.

Lions | Kenyan Drake an option for Detroit?    Thu Mar 5, 05:22 PM

Arizona Cardinals impending free-agent RB Kenyan Drake is 'one to watch' for the Detroit Lions in free agency, according to Chris Burke of The Athletic Thursday, March 5.

Footballguys view: The Cardinals want to keep Drake but they are going to be held back by David Johnson's big contract. We'll see if they can work something out with Drake or if he hits the open market and potentially land with a team like the Lions.

Cardinals | Kenyan Drake looking for lucrative deal    Fri Feb 28, 04:43 PM

Arizona Cardinals impending free-agent RB Kenyan Drake is believed to be looking for $8 million to $10 million per season in his next contract.

Footballguys view: The Cardinals can't afford that if they are also carrying David Johnson and his 10.2 million dollar salary this year. Drake may find he has to accept less than that with the cautionary tale about big running back contracts lately.

Cardinals | Arizona wants Kenyan Drake back    Tue Feb 25, 04:56 PM

Impending free-agent RB Kenyan Drake is wanted back by the team, according to head coach Kliff Kingsbury and general manager Steve Keim Tuesday, Feb. 25. 'We'd love to have him back, he's a perfect fit for our offense,' Kingsbury said. 'He's certainly a guy we would like to have back but again not sure what the market is going to do,' said Keim.

Footballguys view: Drake fit in nicely with the Cardinals last year. He's unlikely to go anywhere and we expect the Cardinals to get something done with the free agent back before he hits the open market.

Cardinals | David Johnson could be traded    Sun Feb 16, 10:17 AM

The Arizona Cardinals could trade RB David Johnson during the offseason if they decide to give impending free-agent RB Kenyan Drake the franchise tag or sign him to a contract extension, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Footballguys view: Who in the world would want that contract? Cardinals GM Steve Keim has already said that cutting Johnson is 'not an option' due to the salary cap ramifications. Johnson has a 2020 cap number of $14.1 million and there is $16.2 million remaining in dead money.

Arizona Cardinals impending free-agent RB Kenyan Drake has had some contract talks with the Cardinals since the end of the season, and general manager Steve Keim said he has told Drake that the team wants him back.

Footballguys view: This seems like a foregone conclusion. Drake had fantastic success as the Cardinals starter and they should continue forward with him as the lead back. Due to salary cap restraints, the team is also likely to keep David Johnson around for the 2020 season.

Cardinals | Arizona closes out year with loss    Sun Dec 29, 09:33 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray completed 26 of his 42 passes for 325 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions and failed to gain a yard on two carries while losing a pair of fumbles in a 31-24 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 17. RB Kenyan Drake rushed 12 times for 60 yards and a touchdown and caught three of his four targets for 23 yards, and WR Christian Kirk caught seven of his 10 targets for 60 yards and carried once for six yards. WR Larry Fitzgerald caught four of his seven targets for 45 yards, WR Damiere Byrd caught seven of his eight targets for 74 yards and a touchdown, and TE Dan Arnold caught four of his six targets for 76 yards and a score. S Budda Baker logged 13 tackles, including eight solo stops, and half a sack, and LB Jordan Hicks finished with 13 tackles.

Cardinals | GM aims to re-sign Kenyan Drake    Fri Dec 20, 12:45 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Kenyan Drake is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, but Cardinals general manager Steve Keim said Friday that the team is hoping to retain the running back they traded for earlier this season. 'As far as waiting until after the season (to re-sign Drake), that's not necessarily the thing either. I would certainly love to have Kenyan Drake back,' Keim said Friday in an Arizona radio interview. 'I think he fits in this offense, and he really has given us a spark in many ways.'

Footballguys view: Drake will probably find a lukewarm market for longterm running back contracts. He has had a much better experience under Kliff Kingsbury than he had under Adam Gase, and perhaps that could create a "hometown discount" for Arizona. The status of David Johnson, who has a $10.2 million dollar guaranteed salary coming to him from the Cardinals next year, will also play into this decision.

Footballguys view: Drake is the better play with a good performance against the 49ers two weeks ago already under his belt and Johnson looking tentative and slow last week, but neither is a strong play if both are going to be used.

Footballguys view: Drake is back! He led off the night with a 36-yard run and didn't look back. Even when David Johnson and Chase Edmonds are healthy, Drake should hold onto enough work to be fantasy relevant. He's in line to at least be a big part of a committee against the Bucs next week.

Footballguys view: It's a short week for the Cardinals...and Drake was just traded to the Cardinals on Monday. Both David Johnson and Chase Edmonds are banged up, but with an 'eased in' role Drake might not perform like anything more than a deep 'what the heck' flex in a bad matchup.

Dolphins | Kenyan Drake involved in trade talks    Thu Oct 17, 10:11 AM

Miami Dolphins RB Kenyan Drake has been involved in trade discussions, and the team is willing to trade him for the right offer.

Footballguys view: There is no obvious trade partner right now unless we are looking at Drake as a depth add and not a core piece of the offense he lands in. That could change this week if a big running back injury happens. It's also possible that some team's starter is worse off than they are letting on in injury reports.
