Saints | New Orleans cuts ties with Brandon Coleman    Sun Aug 5, 05:17 PM

New Orleans Saints WR Brandon Coleman was released after failing his physical Sunday, Aug. 5, according to a league source.

Footballguys view: The Saints may carry only four wide receivers into the regular season with the additions of Cameron Meredith and Tre'Quan Smith. Former Patriot Austin Carr is an interesting name in contention to be #5 now. Recent additions of Michael Floyd and Brandon Tate might have been in anticipation of Coleman's release.

Saints | Brandon Coleman placed on PUP list    Tue Jul 24, 05:16 PM

New Orleans Saints WR Brandon Coleman (neck) was sent to the Active/ Physically Unable to Perform list Tuesday, July 24.

Footballguys view: It always seems to be something with Coleman. He's got incredible size, measuring in at 6'6" 225 pounds but Coleman has yet to truly play up to his potential. Reports from around Saints camp indicate this injury is minor but it's not a good look for a player on the bubble.

Saints | Two Saints WRs on roster bubble?    Thu Jul 19, 09:22 PM

New Orleans Saints WRs Brandon Coleman and Tommylee Lewis are potentially on the roster bubble, according to Nick Underhill of The Advocate. With the team adding more depth at the position 'capable of laying down blocks in the running and screen games,' Coleman may have to re-prove himself, while Lewis will have to show he's the best kick returner in camp to make the team. Lewis has done a 'fine' job since latching on two years ago, but Underhill explains that 'the talent on this team is too thick for fine to cut it.'

Footballguys view: Lewis and Coleman are about as opposite as you can be when you play the same position. Coleman is a huge receiver, measuring in at 6'6", but he's never lived up to his potential as a red zone target. Lewis is a small (5'7" 168 pounds) receiver who needs to make the team based on his special teams skill as a return man. Neither one has a ton of fantasy value, even in deep dynasty leagues.

Saints | Brandon Coleman financial details    Sun May 6, 11:22 AM

Updating a previous report, New Orleans Saints WR Brandon Coleman's one-year deal is worth a maximum of $1 million and does not guarantee his spot on the roster.

Footballguys view: Coleman played as the slot receiver last year ahead of Willie Snead on the depth chart. Snead is gone, but Coleman moved down the depth chart with the addition of Cameron Meredith this offseason. Coleman will compete for a spot as the fourth WR on the depth chart.

Saints | Brandon Coleman returns to Saints    Wed Apr 18, 06:20 PM

Free-agent WR Brandon Coleman (Saints) re-signed with the New Orleans Saints Wednesday, April 18, according to a source. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: The Saints are absolutely stacked at the wide receiver position. Coleman was their primary slot receiver last year but the team didn't tender him as a restricted free agent. He returns to compete for the same spot, but there's now more talent around him. The addition of Cameron Meredith (and Willie Snead is still there) is going to make it difficult for a guy like Coleman to get many looks or snaps on offense in 2018.

The New Orleans Saints have declared DE Al-Quadin Muhammad, WR Brandon Coleman, OT Bryce Harris, C Cameron Tom, TE John Phillips, RB Jonathan Williams, DE Kasim Edebali inactive for Week 19.

Saints | Brandon Coleman has Drew Brees' trust    Mon Jul 31, 09:10 AM

New Orleans Saints WR Brandon Coleman has the trust of QB Drew Brees. 'There's really not a guy who I have more trust in than Brandon Coleman, honestly,' Brees said. 'I've played with him now for a long time, and I feel like he's a guy that can play every position. He can play X, he can play Z, and he can play inside. So his versatility in this offense is really good, he's a very smart player and he's been a guy who's just done whatever we needed him to do over the last few years.'

Footballguys view: There's a lot to trust when a target is 6'6" 225 pounds. Coleman is a big man and has intriguing upside, but he's never been able to quite break through. He's the no4 WR on the Saints roster behind Michael Thomas, Willie Snead and Ted Ginn Jr.

Saints | Brandon Coleman re-signs with Saints    Tue Mar 7, 01:12 PM

New Orleans Saints exclusive rights free-agent WR Brandon Coleman re-signed with the Saints Tuesday, March 7, on a minimum contract.

Footballguys view: As an ERFA, Coleman didn't have much of an option. He's coming off a "meh" 2016 season with only 26 catches for 281 yards and three touchdowns. We'll see what happens with Brandin Cooks, but we're not expecting much of a bump for Coleman's numbers in 2017.

Saints | Brandon Coleman not standing out    Fri Aug 26, 10:18 AM

New Orleans Saints WR Brandon Coleman has had a 'pedestrian' camp and preseason, according to head coach Sean Payton. His roster spot is in question nearing the final week of camp.

Footballguys view: The Saints have their top three receivers cements in Brandin Cooks, Willie Snead, and Michael Thomas. Pint-sized Tommy Lee Lewis might have the inside track for the #4 receiver job with his ability to contribute as a return man too. Coleman's size and speed are rare enough that he would likely get a look elsewhere if the Saints move on from him.

Saints | Brandon Coleman busy in loss    Sun Aug 21, 01:20 AM

New Orleans Saints WR Brandon Coleman posted six receptions for 47 yards on 10 targets in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 20, against the Houston Texans. He saw increased work with WRs Brandin Cooks and Willie Snead resting.

Footballguys view: Coleman has actually had a solid summer despite second-round pick Michael Thomas stealing all of the headlines. If injuries strike the Saints receivers, we could be talking about him as a hot waiver wire pickup this season.

Saints | Brandon Coleman has stiff competition    Wed Jun 22, 11:40 PM

New Orleans Saints WR Brandon Coleman needs a strong training camp and preseason to secure his roster spot, as the team drafted a similar type of receiver in WR Michael Thomas.

Footballguys view: Another beat writer predicted that Coleman would hold off Thomas and become the third wide receiver, but Thomas had a tremendous spring and riffed with Drew Brees from the word go, so Coleman might be unnecessary. If the Saints let him go, he should get interest from other teams, as Coleman's size/speed combination is hard to find, and "big slot" types are getting more use around the league.

Saints | High hopes for Brandon Coleman    Wed Feb 17, 12:07 AM

New Orleans Saints WR Brandon Coleman appears to be next in line if WR Marques Colston is not brought back or elects to retire. General manager Mickey Loomis believes the team has a replacement ready in Coleman. 'Brandon Coleman is a big guy out of Rutgers that has done some good things and I think in many ways is the heir apparent to Marques,' Loomis said Tuesday, Feb. 16.

Footballguys view: Coleman was raw earlier in the season and passed by Willie Snead in the pecking order, but he came on later in the season and could be a suitable late round flyer in redrafts, along with being a good stash in dynasty leagues. Snead and Brandin Cooks still appear to be the main targets, but if Ben Watson doesn't come back, Coleman will be a solid spot in a pass happy offense.

Saints | Willie Snead feeling better    Thu Dec 10, 07:04 PM

New Orleans Saints WR Willie Snead (calf) is feeling good after returning to the practice field this week after he sat out in Week 13. 'Coach thought it would be good to take a week. I benefitted from that. I feel good right now,' Snead said. WR Brandon Coleman had four catches for 73 yards and aa touchdown in Snead's place last weekend.

Footballguys view: Brandin Cooks is dealing with a concussion, so Snead could see a bump. Until it's official that Cooks is out though, we see Snead as no more than a a solid WR4 with some upside.

Saints | Willie Snead rising up pecking order    Mon Oct 5, 10:54 AM

New Orleans Saints WR Willie Snead played 48 snaps (66% of the offense) Sunday, Oct. 4, in Week 4, while WR Brandon Coleman played just 19 for 26% of the offense.

Footballguys view: We had Snead as a "punt play" in DFS this week, and he paid off. While Coleman has been disappointing, Snead is getting open and making the most of his opportunity. For season-long leagues, Snead is worth a small percentage of your waiver-wire budget if you need WR help.

Saints | Brandon Coleman plays well    Mon Sep 14, 05:33 PM

New Orleans Saints WR Brandon Coleman scored the only touchdown for the Saints in Week 1 versus the Arizona Cardinals. In total, Coleman caught four passes for 41 yards and the one score.

Footballguys view: Coleman could emerge this season as an important target for the Saints offense. He'll continue to work when the team gets into three-wide receiver sets. Consider Coleman an upside WR3/WR4/flex play in Week 2 against the Buccaneers.

Saints | QB comfortable with Brandon Coleman    Wed Sep 2, 09:57 PM

New Orleans Saints WR Brandon Coleman has impressed QB Drew Brees during training camp and the preseason. The quarterback said Tuesday, Sept. 2, that he has a great comfort level with Coleman.

Footballguys view: We've heard this story before, and it's a positive sign for Coleman. Fantasy owners should consider Coleman a perfect late-round pick because of his skill set and the opportunity there may be for him in New Orleans.

Saints | Brandon Coleman praised by QB    Tue Sep 1, 07:53 PM

New Orleans Saints WR Brandon Coleman has developed comfortability with QB Drew Brees. Brees said he is pleased with the training camp and preseason Coleman has had.

Footballguys view: This might be a guy to keep an eye on, especially with his size and the absence of Jimmy Graham. Could he become a red zone threat? We have him rated as a WR6 but he has some upside to pay attention to.
