Giants | Hakeem Nicks got advice from Plaxico Burress    Wed Jan 29, 03:52 PM

New York Giants WR Hakeem Nicks got advice from Pittsburgh Steelers WR Plaxico Burress over the course of the season about how to play through a contract year. "I tried to pick his mind, see what he had going and really just be a friend and let him understand I played the position," Burress told NJ.com on Wednesday. "It's not always easy but you have to go out and be focused. Hopefully between those lines, it's all football."

Footballguys view: Nicks didn't have a good contract year. Injuries and inconsistencies have marred his game. We may see Nicks have to sign a "prove it" deal this offseason after the down year he had in 2013.

Steelers | Plaxico Burress undergoes surgery    Mon Aug 12, 07:42 PM

Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers WR Plaxico Burress (shoulder) underwent season-ending rotator cuff surgery Monday, Aug. 12.

Footballguys view: This could be the last we see of Burress in the NFL. He's not the same player he used to be and might be best served retiring.

Steelers | Jerricho Cotchery breathing easier?    Fri Aug 9, 02:19 PM

The last wide receiver spot for the Pittsburgh Steelers was believed to be a battle between WRs Plaxico Burress (shoulder) and Jerricho Cotchery. With Burress suffering a torn rotator cuff in practice Thursday, Aug. 8, a potential season-ending injury, it might be good news for Cotchery.

Footballguys view: Cotchery and Burress were competing for one roster spot on the Steelers depth chart. This injury to Burress opens the door for Cotchery to make the team.

Steelers | Plaxico Burress thinks he can be factor in red zone    Sun Jun 9, 11:32 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Plaxico Burress said he believes he can be a factor in the red zone because of his size. 'I know I can still play, I know I can dominate in the red zone,' Burress said. 'Just go out and play at a high percentage. In those one-on-one opportunities, just succeed at a high rate. I know I can. Being out there last year, I drew double coverage in the red zone without hardly playing, I think teams will have to respect that.'

Footballguys view: Burress certainly can be a presence in the red zone. He's got the size, leaping ability, and wingspan to be a good red zone target. Burress also has good chemistry with QB Ben Roethlisberger. Even with his red zone ability we're not counting on Burress to have much of a fantasy impact this year.

Steelers | Plaxico Burress has Mark Sanchez's back    Fri May 17, 03:45 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Plaxico Burress, who also played for the New York Jets in 2011, said QB Mark Sanchez could improve in the future. 'I think he will turn the corner and become a good quarterback in the league,' Burress said. '... I've said that from Day One. But he has to just go out and put it together. I believe that he will.'

Footballguys view: Burress takes the opposite position of Panthers WR Steve Smith who said Sanchez 'sucked' and he wouldn't let him throw a 'paper bag sandwich' to him. Sanchez has his fair share of doubters around the league and within the organization. There are some who say he's regressed as a passer over the last few years and lacks the confidence to be an effective starter.

Steelers | Sign Plaxico Burress    Tue Mar 12, 02:02 PM

The Pittsburgh Steelers signed WR Plaxico Burress Tuesday, Mar. 12. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: The team is going to lose Mike Wallace in free agency. Burress won't fill that void but he does give them veteran depth and a red zone target. He's established chemistry with QB Ben Roethlisberger from years ago but we are not counting on Burress to be a big fantasy producer in 2013.

That is the same thing WR Plaxico Burress was charged with, and the minimum sentence to that charge is three and a half years in prison.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have declared DL Al Woods, QB Byron Leftwich, CB Cortez Allen, CB Ike Taylor, OT Mike X. Adams, WR Plaxico Burress, OG Willie Colon inactive for Week 15.

Footballguys view: Burress had played a role for the Steelers after his signing, but he is back to being inactive with the Steelers WR corps getting healthier. The secondary is depleted, so the Cowboys passing game should have a strong day.

Steelers | Plaxico Burress unlikely to play     Sat Dec 8, 10:07 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Plaxico Burress is not expected to be active for the team's Week 14 game with WR Jerricho Cotchery (rib) returning from a rib injury. Burress said he would not be a distraction if he does not play. 'Like I told the guys upstairs, I am willing to go out and fulfill whatever role is presented to me, and I stand by that,' Burress said. 'Whenever they put me in the game, I want to answer the call.' Burress has yet to make a catch since joining the team. He's been targeted only two times and has played only 12 of 132 snaps.

Steelers | Plaxico Burress not showing rust     Sat Nov 24, 09:48 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Charlie Batch said WR Plaxico Burress did well during practice this week and did not show any rust. Batch is not concerned about the lack of time Burress has received to learn the playbook because he is familiar with the routes the team will be using.

Footballguys view: Burress should be used in the red zone and might be worth a pickup in deep TD-only leagues.

Steelers | Plaxico Burress unsure how he'll be used    Wed Nov 21, 07:49 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Plaxico Burress said he's unsure how he'll be used in Week 12 against the Cleveland Browns, and he'll be the No. 3 or 4 wide receiver on the depth chart.

Footballguys view: Burress could see the field as a red zone threat because of his size, wingspan, and leaping ability. Don't start him this week, even in deep leagues.

Steelers | Plaxico Burress to sign    Tue Nov 20, 01:11 PM

The Pittsburgh Steelers plan to sign free-agent WR Plaxico Burress (Jets) after having him in for a workout Tuesday, Nov. 20.

Footballguys view: Burress is back with the Steelers after leaving the team in 2004. He'll serve as the team's fourth WR behind Mike Wallace, Antonio Brown, and Emmanuel Sanders. Antonio Brown (ankle) is questionable and Jerricho Cotchery (ribs) is out for this week's game against the Browns. Burress gives the team a nice target in the red zone but we don't see him being much of a fantasy factor.

Bears | Plaxico Burress interested in team    Wed Oct 10, 12:54 AM

Free-agent WR Plaxico Burress (Jets) said Tuesday, Oct. 9, that he is interested in joining the Chicago Bears if they want a veteran receiver to replace the injured WR Alshon Jeffery (hand). Burress has been keeping in shape, and talked to his agent to express an interest in the team. 'I'm going to tell him if an opportunity in Chicago presents itself, I want to go now,' Burress said. 'I just want to go out and play.'

Footballguys view: Burress is trying to catch on in the league again but his phone isn't ringing. We don't know if the Bears have interest and will know more if a workout with the veteran WR is scheduled.

That's the sad part about it,' Burress said. 'Right now, if I was to sign with a team and go out and play, I'm going to do some damage, because I'm back to being the player I know I can be.'   NFL | Plaxico Burress surprised he's not playing     Sat Sep 15, 09:24 AM

Free-agent WR Plaxico Burress (Jets) thought he would have signed with a team by now; however, he remains confident he will play this season. 'I believe it will happen,' Burress said. 'I'm staying in shape ... For the next month or so I'm going to continue to work hard, see what happens, remain optimistic and when the opportunity comes I'll be ready.'

Footballguys view: Burress is going to have to wait longer if he wants an opportunity to play. We don't think teams are wild about adding the veteran receiver, but he could get a shot before other veterans on the street like Terrell Owens or Chad Johnson.

Raiders | Not interested in veteran WRs     Thu Sep 13, 08:16 PM

Oakland Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie said the team is not interested in signing free-agent WR Plaxico Burress (Jets), WR Chad Johnson (Dolphins) or WR Terrell Owens (Seahawks) because none of them fit the team at this point.

Footballguys view: This is a smart move for a rebuilding team. It's better to get youngsters like Juron Criner and Rod Streater valuable early experience than to give an aging vet one more go-round in the NFL.

Free-agent WR Plaxico Burress (Jets) has been working out in Florida and waiting for his phone to ring with an NFL club offering an opportunity to play. The New York Jets have no interest in bringing him back, although the veteran remains hopeful of being reunited with team. 'I understand they are going with young guys they want to groom and have long-term goals,' Burress said. 'I'm not a long-term solution. One year, maybe two.   Patriots | Not expected to sign Plaxico Burress     Mon Aug 13, 09:12 AM

The New England Patriots are not expected to sign free-agent WR Plaxico Burress (Jets).

Footballguys view: The Patriots may now have Burress on their emergency list in case injuries hit their WR corps later in the preseason. We didn't see Burress as being anything more than a red zone threat with the Patriots.

Patriots | Plaxico Burress working out    Sun Aug 12, 01:05 PM

The New England Patriots are scheduled to work out free-agent WR Plaxico Burress (Jets) Sunday, Aug. 12.

Footballguys view: Interesting workout for the Patriots here. They're already stacked at the WR position and Burress doesn't seem like a natural fit for that offense. If signed he would compete with guys like Donte Stallworth for a roster spot. Burress isn't the same player he used to be, but could be used mostly as a red zone target.

Cowboys | Have had talks with Plaxico Burress    Thu Aug 9, 07:06 PM

The Dallas Cowboys have held preliminary contract talks with the agent for free-agent WR Plaxico Burress (Jets).

Footballguys view: The Cowboys are looking for an upgrade at their WR3 position behind Miles Austin and Dez Bryant. Currently guys like Danny Coale, Kevin Ogletree, and Dwayne Harris are competing for that spot. We think Burress is an upgrade over those three.

Steelers | No interest in Plaxico Burress    Wed Aug 8, 10:16 PM

The Pittsburgh Steelers have not expressed any interest in free-agent WR Plaxico Burress (Jets). The free agent has stated he is willing to take a one-year contract for the veteran minimum to play in 2012.

'I mean, they did bring him in for a reason. I think he's going to make Mark Sanchez a better quarterback. When they bring in somebody at your position, he's going to compete for it.'   Panthers | Steve Smith does not want Plaxico Burress     Sat Jun 23, 09:48 AM

Carolina Panthers WR Steve Smith said free-agent WR Plaxico Burress (Jets) is an exceptional wide receiver; however, Smith would rather the team focus on giving the younger receivers on the team a chance instead of signing Burress. 'We've filled our chairs in the receivers room with already a lot of guys - young and older guys. To bring in Plax (and) to let one of those guys go it wouldn't be the coach Rivera way,' Smith said. 'The guys that are in there, they earned those chairs for right now and allowed them to go through training camp.'

Footballguys view: Burress stated earlier this week how he'd like to play with QB Cam Newton. The Panthers (and apparently Smith) have no desire to add the veteran WR to their squad.

Panthers | Not interested in Plaxico Burress    Wed Jun 20, 05:17 PM

The Carolina Panthers are not interested in signing free-agent WR Plaxico Burress (Jets).

Footballguys view: No surprise here. Burress recently commented on how he would love to play with QB Cam Newton, but it takes two sides to tango. The Panthers have up and coming WR Brandon LaFell to start opposite veteran Steve Smith.

Panthers | Plaxico Burress interested    Tue Jun 19, 04:11 PM

Free-agent WR Plaxico Burress (Jets) said he wants to play for the Carolina Panthers this year. 'Not just that, but playing with Cam (Newton), who I think is one of the top-five quarterbacks in all of football, and as long as I can remember (wideout) Steve Smith has been one of my favorites. I just think it's a great situation,' Burress said.

Footballguys view: The problem is, the Panthers would have to show interest in Burress and as of right now that may not be the case. Burress has drawn little interest on the free agent market this offseason. Perhaps that could change if injuries hit the WR position in training camp. Right now the Panthers have up and coming Brandon LaFell as the WR2 opposite Steve Smith.

New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said the team will not look to sign free-agent WR Plaxico Burress (Jets) with WR Hakeem Nicks (foot) dinged up heading into training camp.

Footballguys view: Instead of looking to the past by adding Burress, Coughlin insisted the team would instead "look for the next Victor Cruz." Burress has gotten little interest on the open market and may have to wait for injuries to hit in training camp before he gets an offer from a team.

Cleveland Browns head coach Pat Shurmur said the team has not considered signing free-agent WR Plaxico Burress (Jets) at this point.

Footballguys view: Burress is having difficulty finding any team interested in his services at this time. The Browns are desperate for WR help and they don't want the big veteran WR on their team. Burress may have to wait until injuries hit the WR position during training camp before he gets a job.
