Rams | Malcolm Brown had surgery    Tue Sep 22, 08:47 AM

Los Angeles Rams RB Malcolm Brown (finger) had surgery to repair his left pinkie finger Monday, Sept. 20, but he's expected to play in Week 3.

Footballguys view: The Rams are committed to a three-headed RBBC when everyone in the backfield is healthy. Brown should play in Week 3, now we'll see what the status of Cam Akers (ribs) is for Sunday's game against Buffalo.

Rams | Malcolm Brown finishes with 47 yards    Sun Sep 20, 05:51 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Malcolm Brown rushed for 47 yards on 11 carries against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 2.

Footballguys view: Brown's Week 1 value was reduced by Darrell Henderson being healthy even though Cam Akers left with an injury. He's only a matchup play while this backup is still in flux and next week's matchup against the Bills isn't a good one.

Rams | Rams RBBC confirmed for Week 1    Wed Sep 9, 12:01 PM

Los Angeles Rams RBs Cam Akers, Malcolm Brown and Darrell Henderson (hamstring) will be part of a committee for Week 1, according to head coach Sean McVay. Henderson, who missed two weeks due to a hamstring injury, is expected to be ready. 'If (Henderson) is, that's a three-back rotation that you feel really good about,' McVay said. 'Exactly how those carries will be distributed is something we'll determine really as the week progresses and as the game unfolds.'

Footballguys view: McVay has talked about how he admires what Kyle Shanahan does with the 49ers backfield. That sort of three-headed RBBC will be what the Rams implement in 2020. This is a situation largely avoided by Fantasy GMs until we get more clarity on who could have the most fantasy value.

Rams | Malcolm Brown to start?    Fri Sep 4, 11:58 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Malcolm Brown is expected to begin the season as a starter over Cam Akers, according to SI.com's Eric D. Williams.

Footballguys view: This is an interesting development as many expect the rookie Akers to get the nod as the starter. Now, at the end of the day both are going to be used and Akers has a better all-around skill set. Brown is a classic banger between the tackles and he's got a low center of gravity which makes him tough to bring down. Akers is a hard-charging runner and can make plays as a receiver out of the backfield. This could be the dreaded 'hot hand' approach, especially when Darrell Henderson is healthy and also part of the mix.

Rams | Sean McVay talks up RBBC again    Tue Jul 21, 11:38 PM

Los Angeles Rams RBs Cam Akers, Darrell Henderson, John Kelly and Malcolm Brown will likely be expected to begin the season in a committee, as head coach Sean McVay specifically mentioned the way the San Francisco 49ers used their running backs last season as a model for what he hopes the Rams will attempt to do at the position in 2020.'I think it'll just naturally work itself out. I think if you look at that success San Fran had last year with that running back-by-committee approach. What I thought Kyle (Shanahan) and their players did a great job of is, 'Hey, we're going to have an open-mind approach, we're going to be committed to trying to have some balance and then we'll go with the hot hand or whoever really expresses himself as deserving of the carries,' McVay said on The Helliepod.

Footballguys view: This is a nightmare for Fantasy GMs who are looking for value. The Rams have talented backs who do things each a little differently but they're not going to pick one to lead the way. In addition to a RBBC, this situation could turn into the dreaded 'hot hand' approach which is incredibly difficult for Fantasy GMs to navigate. The rookie Akers is the first Rams running back coming off the board with a current ADP of RB26 (5.06) followed up by Henderson at RB50 (10.12) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Rams | Malcolm Brown may have smaller role    Sat Jun 20, 04:54 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Malcolm Brown may be limited to goal line and short yardage work this upcoming season depending on how RBs Cam Akers and Darrell Henderson perform, in the opinion of RamsWire's Cameron DaSilva.

Footballguys view: This running back situation could prove to be quite problematic for Fantasy GMs in 2020. Akers is the talented, no-nonsense rookie while Henderson provides some big-play ability to the backfield. Brown has some power to his game but might be third in the pecking order. We'll see how this competition shapes up in training camp but we could be headed for a three-headed RBBC with the Rams.

Rams | Early impact Cam Akers?    Sat Apr 25, 09:40 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Cam Akers 'is in a great spot to compete for carries' with RB Malcolm Brown and RB Darrell Henderson, according to Matt Bowen of ESPN.com, and Bowen believes Akers offers 'upside' in the passing game.

Footballguys view: This has the makings of a three-headed RBBC for the Rams...and a nightmare for Fantasy GMs. Akers is a natural runner and can be used effectively as a receiver out of the backfield. He could win the top job in a committee approach.

Rams | LA Rams likely eyeing committee backfield    Mon Apr 6, 10:08 PM

Los Angeles Rams RBs Malcolm Brown and Darrell Henderson may end up sharing snaps in 2020, based on comments made by general manager Les Snead on Monday, April 6.'What we do want to be is a team that utilizes more than one workhorse moving the ball, with different skill sets.'

Footballguys view: Both are talented backs and we'll have to wait and see if one of them emerges as the primary back. Brown is more of a power back who can grind it out between the tackles and pick up tough yards. Henderson is more of a well-rounded back who doesn't need to come off the field. He'll need to be better in pass-protection if he wants a larger role. We'll see these two battle in training camp.

Rams | Malcolm Brown a load to bring down    Wed Apr 1, 11:21 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Malcolm Brown was credited with 10 broken tackles on 69 rushing attempts in 2019, joining Tony Pollard as the only players with fewer than 100 carries to break at least 10 tackles.

Footballguys view: Brown is a talented player who could get a larger role with Todd Gurley (Falcons) gone. He will compete with Darrell Henderson in camp for a featured role on offense. We expect the Rams to add a running back in the 2020 NFL draft as well.

RB Todd Gurley rushed 20 times for 68 yards and caught both of his targets for 21 yards, and RB Malcolm Brown rushed nine times for 26 yards and a touchdown and caught one pass for six yards. WR Cooper Kupp caught seven of his 10 targets for 99 yards and a score, WR Robert Woods caught seven of his 12 targets for 67 yards and a touchdown, WR Brandin Cooks hauled in three of his five targets for 40 yards, and TE Tyler Higbee caught eight of his 12 targets for 84 yards and a touchdown.

DT Tanzel Smart (illness), RB Malcolm Brown (ankle), LB Clay Matthews (jaw) and OT Andrew Whitworth (non-injury) practiced in full Friday and have been removed from the injury report.

Rams | Malcolm Brown expected to receive bulk of carries    Sun Oct 13, 08:23 AM

Los Angeles Rams RB Malcolm Brown is expected to be the team's featured back in Week 6's game against the San Francisco 49ers, as a result of RB Todd Gurley (quadriceps) being ruled out. RB Darrell Henderson will also likely see an increased number of offensive snaps.

Footballguys view: Brown is facing a very tough run defense and is only a low ceiling flex, better suited for use in nonPPR leagues. Henderson should be added in leagues with large enough benches because he could make enough of an impression to have a larger role going forward.

Rams | Malcolm Brown praised by Todd Gurley    Sat Apr 20, 09:13 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Malcolm Brown has 'always been reliable' when called upon, according to RB Todd Gurley. 'If I go out, he's doing the exact same thing,' Gurley said.

Footballguys view: Brown certainly has talent as a runner when healthy. Last season, Brown was banged up with a collarbone injury that landed him on Injured Reserve after 12 games. The Rams re-signed Brown to a two-year, $3.25 million contract earlier this offseason and he'll be the primary backup to Todd Gurley in 2019.

Footballguys view: This was an easy call, as the two-year deal is actually cheaper on a per year basis than his restricted free agent tender. The Rams probably don't need to make another move at running back unless they are worried about Todd Gurley's knee.
