Miami Dolphins RB Matt Breida is expected to receive 35 percent of the touches in the backfield, according to beat writer Cameron Wolfe.
Footballguys view: That sounds about right. Breida is going to be the change-of-pace back to starter Jordan Howard in 2020. The Dolphins should be running the ball early and often as they groom rookie QB Tua Tagovailoa (who should be starting over Ryan Fitzpatrick soon enough). |
Matt Breida player page

Miami Dolphins RB Matt Breida has not had any contract extension talks with the Dolphins this offseason, according to a source.
Footballguys view: The Dolphins are smart to let Breida prove it on a one year $3.259 million dollar deal. His ability is unquestioned, but he hasn't been able to stay healthy and last year the 49ers appeared to sour on him because of ball security issues. Miami's running game was terrible last year, but they had no talent in the backfield after trading away Kenyan Drake and they made significant changes to the offensive line this offseason. Breida is worth a late round flier pick but not more with Jordan Howard likely leading the team in carries and getting the goal line looks. |

Miami Dolphins RB Jordan Howard could 'come close to doubling' the number of carries RB Matt Breida will receive, according to Cameron Wolfe of ESPN.com.
Footballguys view: Wolfe is one of the best Dolphins beat writers, so we're certainly paying attention to this report. Howard should be the lead back and by a wide margin when it comes to carries. Breida can work as a change-of-pace back and should be the primary pass-catching back in 2020. His current ADP is RB34 (7.06) in 12-team PPR leagues. |

Miami Dolphins RB Matt Breida is tied with Denver Broncos RB Phillip Lindsay for second in the NFL since 2017 in yards before contact at 2.4 per carry, trailing only Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson (3.1) over that span.
Footballguys view: Breida knows how to create his own space as a runner, with speed, quickness or elusiveness. He was with the 49ers and that zone-blocking system does a world of good for runners, so we'll see what kind of numbers Breida can post now that he's with the Dolphins. Jordan Howard is at the top of the depth chart right now, but Breida is right behind him and could thrive if thrust into more of a full-time role. |
Matt Breida player page

Miami Dolphins RBs Jordan Howard and Matt Breida are both expected to receive solid playing time this upcoming season, but it is not known which one will start.
Footballguys view: Howard is the power back who could be used to pick up short-yardage situations. He may also be the favored back when the team is near the end zone. Breida is the big-play back with the ability to hurt a defense as a runner or receiver out of the backfield. We're seeing Breida come off the board at RB36 (8.04) and Howard at RB39 (8.09) in 12-team PPR leagues. |

RB Matt Breida on Saturday, April 25, was traded from the San Francisco 49ers to the Miami Dolphins. In return, the 49ers received the Dolphins' fifth-round pick (153rd overall), which they used to select West Virginia OT Colton McKivitz.
Footballguys view: The 49ers have a jam-packed backfield, so trading Breida away just gives them some more room...but they're still packed. We'll see Jerrick McKinnon, Tevin Coleman, Raheem Mostert and Jeffrey Wilson compete to establish a pecking order in training camp. |

Updating a previous story, San Francisco 49ers RB Matt Breida's one-year tender signed Thursday, April 16, is worth $3.259 million but it's not guaranteed.
Footballguys view: The team put a second-round tender on Breida and that means they want to keep him around. His spot on the 53-man roster is no guarantee as the 49ers have an incredibly cramped backfield. Breida is versatile and that's going to help his chances. |

San Francisco 49ers RB Matt Breida signed his one-year contract tender Thursday, April 16.
Footballguys view: Breida was a second-round tendered player, so the team wanted to keep him around. He's not a lock for the 53-man roster because the 49ers have a backfield jam-packed with talent. |
Matt Breida player page

San Francisco 49ers RB Matt Breida may not make the final roster next season because of the other running backs on the roster, in the opinion of NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco.
Footballguys view: Breida is talented but the team is full of talent at the running back position. We'll see this battle rage during training camp. |
Matt Breida player page

San Francisco 49ers RBs Raheem Mostert (3.5) and Matt Breida (3.3) ranked first and second, respectively, in the league among running backs in average yards before contact per attempt last season.
Footballguys view: The 49ers could plug-and-play at the running back position and produce last year. Expect that trend to continue this upcoming season with Mostert, Breida, Tevin Coleman and perhaps even Jerick McKinnon. |

San Francisco 49ers RB Matt Breida is a potential candidate to be traded, in the opinion of Spotrac.com.
Footballguys view: Breida was tendered with the second-round level by the 49ers earlier this year. The 49ers are jam packed at the running back position and may want to clear up some space by trading Breida away. |

San Francisco 49ers restricted free-agent RB Matt Breida was tendered at a second-round level Tuesday, March 17, according to a source.
Footballguys view: Breida was an important part of the 49ers backfield in 2019 and he should remain as such in 2020. A second-round tender means a team would have to surrender a second-round pick to the 49ers if they sign Breida away. That tender is likely to keep interested parties away from the all-purpose back. |
Matt Breida player page

San Francisco 49ers RB Matt Breida is likely to receive an RFA tender, according to David Lombardi of The Athletic Tuesday, Feb. 25.
Footballguys view: There's no telling what round of tender that would be, but we don't see Breida going anywhere in 2020. He'll be an important part of the running back rotation no matter who is starting for the team next season. |
Matt Breida player page

San Francisco 49ers RB Matt Breida did not play a single offensive staff in Super Bowl LIV, according to Greg Auman of The Athletic.
Footballguys view: Breida was prominent in the backfield to begin the season, but the emergence of Raheem Mostert made him extraneous. He'll open 2020 as a restricted free agent and one that the 49ers may not tender to protect his rights since he fell off. Breida's ability is not a question, but his durability is, so he's a good penny stock in dynasty leagues right now. |

San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo went 11-for-19 for 131 yards, one touchdown and one interception against the Minnesota Vikings in the Divisional Round playoff game. RB Tevin Coleman rushed for 105 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries. RB Raheem Mostert rushed for 58 yards on 12 carries, while RB Matt Breida rushed for 17 yards on eight carries. WR Deebo Samuel caught three passes for 42 yards on six targets. WR Kendrick Bourne caught three passes for 40 yards and one touchdown on five targets. WR Emmanuel Sanders caught two passes for 33 yards on two targets, while TE George Kittle caught three passes for 16 yards on five targets.
Footballguys view: The 49ers are going to be at home for the NFC Championship Game as the No.1 seed in the conference. Their defense is playing at a high level and their offense can beat you up with the ground game. We'll see if the Packers or the Seahawks are the team traveling to play the 49ers next Sunday. |
