Buccaneers | Tough night for Tom Brady    Fri Oct 9, 12:04 AM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady completed 25 of 41 passes for 253 yards and one touchdown against the Chicago Bears on Thursday, Oct. 8.

Footballguys view: Brady struggled with the Bears pass rush in his face and a thin wide receiver group that was missing Chris Godwin and Justin Watson with a limited Scott Miller contributing very little. This passing game will need to do better to keep up with Aaron Rodgers next week.

Buccaneers | Tom Brady hurt by drops    Sat Sep 26, 01:06 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady has had his pass catchers drop a league-high eight passes through the first two weeks of the season, according to Pro Football Focus data.

Footballguys view: Brady doesn't quite yet look comfortable in the Bruce Arians system. Part of it is the newness and part of his struggles are the drops. His receivers aren't doing him any favors. Guys like Mike Evans and Chris Godwin have been banged up this year so far although both are going to play against the Broncos on Sunday. We have a feeling Brady could look good against a banged up Broncos defense in Week 3.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady completed 23-of-35 passes for 217 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Week 2 against the Carolina Panthers and he also lost a fumble.

Footballguys view: Brady's game was a disappointment considering how easy the opposing defense was to beat today against Carolina. He'll face Denver next week but is a borderline QB1 at best.

Buccaneers | Tom Brady well ahead of curve    Wed Jul 29, 09:33 AM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady is 'way ahead of the curve,' according to head coach Bruce Arians. 'He's a very bright guy - the terminology was the big thing,' Arians said. 'As we now get together starting tomorrow, we'll start to collaborate a little bit more. So yeah, I think he's in a great spot right now as far as that goes.'

Footballguys view: The Buccaneers should be able to get off to a hot start with Brady leading the way. Arians has a scheme that gets downfield aggressively and Brady, while lacking a rocket arm, is one of the best deep-ball passers in the league. The combination of Arians/Brady should be fruitful in terms of wins in 2020.

Buccaneers | Tom Brady unfazed by disguised coverage    Sun Jun 7, 06:42 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady's 8.5 touchdown-to-interception ratio versus disguised coverage is the league's best mark since 2016, while his completion percentage of 69.1 in those same situations ranks fourth over the same span. Last year's starter, Jameis Winston, posted marks of 1.23 and 65, respectively.)

Footballguys view: Brady has always been one of the best in the game in the mental aspect of playing quarterback, which is possibly the most important attribute of a passer. Tampa's rivals would be better off sending extra rushers than trying to cross up Brady with changing looks at the snap.

Buccaneers | Tom Brady works out with several teammates    Tue May 19, 04:02 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady and approximately eight of his new teammates took part in a two-hour throwing session at Berkeley Preparatory School Tuesday, May 19.

Footballguys view: Brady is taking it upon himself to get work in with his new teammates while the league is still working through a 'virtual offseason.' It's no surprise given his veteran leadership and drive to be great. Working out together in any way possible is only going to help.

Buccaneers | Tom Brady throws with teammates at prep school    Tue May 19, 12:03 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady conducted an on-field throwing session Tuesday, May 19, with several teammates at a local-area prep school. Howard, TE Cameron Brate, QB Blaine Gabbert, C Ryan Jensen, QB Ryan W. Griffin, WR Scott Miller and RB Dare Ogunbowale.

Footballguys view: It's going to be different to see Brady playing for a new team in 2020. The weapons are there for him to be quite productive this season. Fantasy GMs are taking him off the board at QB11 (8.09) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Patriots | TB12 disputes reports of issue with Josh McDaniels    Tue May 12, 12:46 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady took to Instagram to shoot-down speculation that he had a deteriorating relationship with New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, which was speculated as a reason he didn't want to remain in New England. 'Please stop this nonsense! Please be more responsible with reporting,' Brady noted on the Instagram story. He added after 19 years together, he and McDaniels are brothers for life.

Footballguys view: There are a lot of people who want some of 'The Last Dance' in the Patriots and Brady...but that doesn't seem to be the case. It doesn't mean their relationship wasn't without friction, it just might be a little overblown compared to what really happened. Time will tell if we ever get a behind the scenes dish on how Brady and the Patriots got along towards the end of his time in New England.

Buccaneers | Mike Evans excited about Bucs' new QB    Mon May 11, 12:23 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Evans said new Bucs QB Tom Brady is a 'franchise changer' and added he believes Brady is 'the greatest of all-time.'

Footballguys view: You add the GOAT and everyone is excited. How much does Brady have left in the tank? We're about to find out this season with the Buccaneers. They certainly have a great group of weapons around him, featuring Evans as the top receiving target. Fantasy GMs are selecting Brady at QB18 (11.12) in 12-team PPR leagues. Evans is going off the board at WR9 (2.11) in such formats.

Buccaneers | Will Tom Brady top 4,100 yards?    Sat May 2, 12:55 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady's over/under total on his 2020 passing yards has been set at 4,099.5 by Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas.

Footballguys view: Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians loves to air out the football. This team is going to pass as much as possible in 2020 with Brady leading the way. They have great targets in the passing game like WRs Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. Add in three solid TEs (Rob Gronkowski, Cameron Brate, O.J. Howard) and you'll see why the number for Brady is projected to be over 4,000 yards. With his new team, Brady should be considered a QB2 with upside for Fantasy GMs.

Buccaneers | Tom Brady didn't violate offseason rules    Tue Apr 28, 12:13 PM

The NFL looked into Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady recently visiting with offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich at Leftwich's house.

Footballguys view: There was some concern that Brady was in violation of league rule but that now doesn't seem to be the case. The league determined Brady and Leftwich didn't violate any offseason work rules, as Brady was there for a brief personal visit to pick up his new team playbook. It occurred during the dead period before the virtual period of the offseason began.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady was charged with 116 'bad throws' in 2019, six fewer than league leader Jameis Winston - his predecessor in Tampa Bay.

Footballguys view: We'll see Brady can clean that up in his new offense. He's good at attacking underneath routes but Brady did grade out well when targeting players deep -- a hallmark of the Bruce Arians offense.

Buccaneers | Tom Brady expected to sign with Tampa Bay    Tue Mar 17, 06:44 PM

New England Patriots impending free-agent QB Tom Brady is expected to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when the new league year opens Wednesday, March 18, 'barring anything unforeseen,' sources told Adam Schefter and Jeff Darlington of ESPN Tuesday, March 17.

Footballguys view: Brady gets to move on to a new team, and the Buccaneers get a big upgrade over last year's starter Jameis Winston. It's an interesting fit with Bruce Arians and his downfield passing attack, but we're certain they can make it work and work at a high level. Seeing Brady in a different uniform is going to be weird, and expect the team to add more weapons around him this offseason.

Titans | Ryan Tannehill still in Titans' plans    Thu Mar 5, 02:17 PM

Tennessee Titans QB Ryan Tannehill, a pending free agent, is still very much in the Titans' re-signing plans, and according to one report out of Boston, the team is using its purported interest in free-agent QB Tom Brady as leverage to lock in Tannehill at a lower cost.

Footballguys view: The first domino has to fall with Tom Brady. If he stays with New England or signs somewhere else other than Tennessee, the Titans will get Tannehill wrapped up. He'll be asked to hand off and play conservative football as the Titans want to run the ball and play great defense to make another playoff run in 2020.

Footballguys view: "Brady Watch" continues in March with free agency looming in a couple of weeks. We'll see if this progress actually leads to the Patriots keeping Brady around for the 2020 season.

NFL | Tom Brady, Antonio Brown a package deal?    Mon Mar 2, 02:47 PM

Impending free-agent QB Tom Brady (Patriots) has reportedly remained in 'consistent contact' with free-agent WR Antonio Brown and told him to 'keep mentally and physically strong' so the duo can reunite on the field at Brady's next stop, according to two people close to Brown.

Footballguys view: That would be a problem if the Raiders really want Brady based on how Brown's time with the team ended prematurely. The report is coming from people close to Brown, not to Brady, so take this with a grain of salt. The Patriots have interest in keeping Brady and we'll be monitoring this closely as free agency approaches in a couple of weeks.

Patriots | Tom Brady still in New England's plans    Thu Feb 27, 10:19 PM

Updating previous reports, impending free-agent QB Tom Brady (Patriots) is 'in fact in the Patriots' plans (for 2020),' according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Footballguys view: He should be as they don't have a Plan B on the roster. The question is whether they'll meet his salary demands, or alternatively whether he'll still give them a discount. We probably won't get an answer until after we know the outcome of this round of CBA negotiations.

New England Patriots impending free-agent QB Tom Brady has not talked to the Patriots at this point, but the team wants to see if a new collective bargaining agreement will be reached in the near future before starting contract negotiations with Brady, according to sources.

Footballguys view: This jives with a lot of the pause in the buzzmill and lack of action in the pre-free agency period. The Patriots are still the most likely team for Brady in 2020.

Patriots | Tom Brady to bolt?    Thu Feb 27, 10:21 AM

New England Patriots impending free-agent QB Tom Brady would shock ESPN's Jeff Darlington if he re-signed with the Patriots. Darlington said on ESPN's 'Get Up' that he would be stunned if Brady returned at this point.

Footballguys view: The reports about Brady vary from day to day. Sometimes the speculation is that Brady is not going anywhere. The next day, reporters speculate that Brady is 100 percent gone. It's 'Brady Watch' in 2020 and we'll just have to wait and see what happens. The Patriots might make a strong push to keep him around, but the numbers are already speculated in terms of what the Raiders would offer him (two-year, $60 million contract). New England Patriots impending free-agent QB Tom Brady has not made any progress in contract talks with the Patriots at this point.

Footballguys view: The chances that Brady stays with the Patriots are still strong but the team is running out of time to get something done. Reports indicate the Raiders are ready to offer Brady a two-year, $60 million deal to be their starter as they move to Las Vegas. That sounds like a starting point for the Patriots and one they may not be willing to match. Stay tuned.

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady, a pending free agent, will receive a two-year, $60 million offer from the Las Vegas Raiders, according to Larry Fitzgerald Sr., a long-time member of the Minnesota media.

Footballguys view: That sounds about right for Brady. We'll see if the Patriots want in on a potential bidding war for the first-time free agent. The Raiders want Brady bad and with a new stadium opening in 2020, Brady would be quite the draw for Vegas.

Patriots | Tom Brady talks should heat up soon    Wed Feb 12, 09:35 AM

New England Patriots impending free-agent QB Tom Brady is expected to have serious contract discussions with the team before the March 18 new league year. Brady hasn't had talks with the team yet, but he would cost them a $13.5 million salary cap charge if he's not on the roster by then. The Patriots project to have about $29 million in cap space, per sources.

Footballguys view: If Brady's contract is extended before the 2020 league year begins, it would lessen the dead money on the team's 2020 cap because it could be accounted for over multiple years.

New England Patriots impending free-agent QB Tom Brady is not expected to receive much interest from the Miami Dolphins if he hits the free-agent market, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Zero surprise here. The Dolphins are all about Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa in the 2020 NFL draft. They have the No.5 overall pick but a projected QB frenzy could cause them to move up (perhaps to No.3 with the Lions) in the first round.

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes joined Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger and New England Patriots QB Tom Brady as the only quarterbacks to win a Super Bowl before the age of 25. Both Roethlisberger and Brady have gone on to win multiple titles in their careers.

Footballguys view: Mahomes is likely to win multiple championships as well. If the Chiefs play things right, they could be building a dynasty with Mahomes leading the way. They have an opportunity to be Super Bowl contenders for a decade so long as Mahomes is their quarterback. They should give him a new contract that makes him the highest-paid player in NFL history, but they do have him under contract for the next two seasons.

Footballguys view: Brady is in charge of this process at this point and he should feel like he can dictate terms beyond salary. Footballguys view: We're sure Patriots owner Robert Kraft does not want to lose Brady. Paying him $30 million sounds about right for the quarterback market...even at Brady's advanced age. He's not quite the player he used to be but Brady wants to play a few more years and could be capable of doing that provided he stays healthy.

Patriots | Tom Brady expected to test free agency waters    Sun Jan 19, 11:46 AM

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady appears unlikely to agree to a new contract with the team before free agency begins in mid-March, according to multiple sources.

Footballguys view: Brady is set to be an unrestricted free agent when the new league year begins as he cannot be franchise-tagged by the Patriots. We've seen it before with guys like Joe Montana and Peyton Manning, so Brady may just be the next superstar quarterback to change teams late in his career. He is expected to take a methodical approach to determine where he will play next season, since this is the first time in his career that he will be eligible for free agency.
