Raiders | Devontae Booker rejoins roster    Tue Aug 4, 06:00 PM

Las Vegas Raiders RB Devontae Booker was activated from the Reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday, Aug. 4.

Footballguys view: Booker was added in free agency earlier this year. He's not a productive runner but he has looked good as a receiving back. Booker is competing to establish a pecking order behind starter Josh Jacobs.

Raiders | Devontae Booker hits COVID list    Thu Jul 30, 06:04 PM

Updating a previous story, Las Vegas Raiders RB Devontae Booker was placed on the COVID-19 list Thursday, July 30.

Footballguys view: Booker is a good receiving back but has barely seen the field recently in his pro career. When cleared to practice, Booker is trying to earn a spot on the Raiders as a reserve behind starter Josh Jacobs.

Raiders | Devontae Booker terms    Tue May 12, 03:36 PM

Updating a previous story, Las Vegas Raiders RB Devontae Booker signed a one-year contract including a $50,000 signing bonus. Booker qualifies for the veteran salary benefit, which will carry a cap hit of $887,500.

Footballguys view: Booker is no lock for the 53-man roster but that veteran salary benefit could help keep him around. He's disappointed in the pros as a runner but Booker does flash good skill as a receiver out of the backfield. He'll compete with Jalen Richard to be a backup to Josh Jacobs in 2020.

Raiders | Deovontae Booker officially signed    Mon May 11, 04:38 PM

Updating a previous report, free-agent RB Devontae Booker (Broncos) officially signed with the Las Vegas Raiders Monday, May 11. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Booker disappointed during his time with the Broncos and needed a fresh start. He may not live up to his potential as a runner but he can be a good receiver out of the backfield. Booker will compete with Jalen Richard to establish a pecking order behind starter Josh Jacobs. He's no lock for the 53-man roster.

Raiders | Devontae Booker heading to Las Vegas    Wed May 6, 10:19 PM

Free-agent RB Devontae Booker (Broncos) reportedly agreed to terms with the Las Vegas Raiders on Wednesday, May 6.

Footballguys view: Booker was a fourth-round pick of the Broncos in the 2016 NFL draft. He was supposed to take over in that backfield but never did. Booker is a hard-charging runner but he lacks field vision. However, he has natural receiving ability and could be used as a pass-catching option behind Josh Jacobs.

Broncos | Devontae Booker expected to receive interest    Sat Mar 7, 06:32 PM

Denver Broncos impending free-agent RB Devontae Booker is expected to receive interest from multiple teams this offseason.

Footballguys view: We can't see that. Booker is 'meh' as a runner and a better-than-expected receiver out of the backfield. Perhaps it's that receiving ability that a team might covet on the open market. Booker isn't going to get a big contract, so the price tag is low and the risk is low....but production has been low. We'll see where Booker lands in free agency, but he's not staying with Denver.

Broncos | Devontae Booker to hit open market    Fri Mar 6, 12:29 PM

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker, a pending free agent, isn't expected to be re-signed in Denver, per source. He is expected to draw second-wave interest in free agency.

Footballguys view: Zero surprise here. Booker is a better-than-you-think receiver but he's not good as a runner. Some team will add him for veteran depth but we've gotten rid of all our Booker stock in deep dynasty formats.

Broncos | Devontae Booker leaned on in passing game    Mon Sep 24, 09:42 AM

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker had seven of his 10 touches after the team fell behind by 13 points in the third quarter as the team trusts him in the passing game as a blocker and receiver. He had 26 snaps on offense overall for 38 percent of the offense.

Footballguys view: The only reason we saw more from Booker is because Phillip Lindsay was ejected from the game for throwing a punch. Booker is likely to be used as the third back behind Lindsay and Royce Freeman. Even though Booker is second on the depth chart (behind Freeman), the team doesn't seem to want to use him much in the gameplan.

Broncos | Denver in no rush to name starting RB    Wed Aug 29, 12:29 PM

Denver Broncos RBs Royce Freeman and Devontae Booker are the two top candidates to start, but head coach Vance Joseph isn't placing an emphasis on declaring a starter for the Sept. 9 season opener against the Seattle Seahawks. 'It's not a focus of mine right now because it's going to take 3-4 guys (to produce),' Joseph said Tuesday, Aug. 28. "If we run a power play against Seattle on first-and-10, it's probably going to be Royce (starting). If we go empty and throw a quick pass, it may be 'Book' (starting). Who the lead guy is doesn't really matter."

Footballguys view: Most Fantasy GMs expect Freeman to be the lead back for the Broncos in 2018. Freeman has looked like one of the best (if not the best) rookie running back in the preseason. He's got three touchdowns in three preseason games and has the skill set to be a bellcow back. Booker is a perimeter player who could work as a receiving back or on toss plays outside the tackles.

Broncos | Denver RB competition ongoing    Sun Aug 19, 12:55 AM

Denver Broncos RB Royce Freeman and RB Devontae Booker are still in a competition, head coach Vance Joseph said Saturday, Aug. 18.

Footballguys view: Joseph is saying the right things, but Freeman is decisively better and if the coaching staff is rational and Freeman stays healthy, he'll lead the team in running back touches this year by a good margin.

Broncos | Denver to use two RBs with starters    Thu Aug 9, 05:15 PM

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker and RB Royce Freeman will split snaps with the first-team offense during the first preseason game Saturday, Aug. 11.

Footballguys view: Freeman is the guy we're expecting to be the lead back, but the two will still probably split carries for at least the beginning of the season. He's tracking as the 27th RB off the board right now, and that's a safe spot. He can easily outproduce that, but barring injury, we don't see him producing less right now.

Broncos | RB job wide open in Denver    Sun Jul 29, 03:19 PM

Denver Broncos RBs Royce Freeman, Devontae Booker, De'Angelo Henderson and Phillip Lindsay all received first-team reps Sunday, July 29, prompting Lindsay H. Jones of USA TODAY Sports to say the 'running back job is totally open.'

Footballguys view: Lindsay is drawing a lot of praise as a receiver, but he has to keep the momentum going when the intensity turns up later this summer. This isn't going to be one of the most productive backfields in the league and will include 2-3 backs every week, but all of the Broncos backs are modestly priced when looking at their range of outcomes. They have a place in draft plans.

Broncos | Devontae Booker to open season as starter?    Sun Jul 22, 01:45 PM

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker has 'good command' of the offensive playbook and become a competent pass protector, according to Mike Klis of 9News, who added Booker is expected to start the season opener over Royce Freeman against the Seattle Seahawks on Sept. 9.

Footballguys view: Booker should be the favorite to start Week 1 with his experience in the offense, but Freeman has more to offer as an inside runner and is capable in all aspects of a running back's job. Freeman's higher ceiling justifies his earlier ADP, but maybe not the large gap. Booker should be a very cheap early season flex as long as his ADP doesn't trend up.

Broncos | Steady role for Royce Freeman?    Sat May 12, 09:29 PM

Denver Broncos RB Royce Freeman will have a chance to become a '1B' back to RB Devontae Booker, according to Mike Klis of 9News.com.

Footballguys view: Notice how Klis is reporting a '1B' situation. That's accurate at this time as Booker should be the lead back for the Broncos to begin training camp. However, we think Freeman is just a better talent and could overtake Booker for the lead job. We'll watch this unfold in camp as the Broncos look to replace former 1,000 yard rusher C.J. Anderson.

Broncos | Devontae Booker to remain top RB?    Fri Apr 27, 09:43 PM

Denver Broncos RB Royce Freeman will likely compete with RB Devontae Booker for the starting role, according to Mike Klis of 9News.com, but Klis expects Booker to open the season as the starter.

Footballguys view: Booker hasn't caught the confidence of the staff completely and Freeman does so much right, he really could have a big role early on.

Broncos | Devontae Booker alone at the top    Mon Apr 16, 10:58 AM

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker is atop the depth chart after the release of RB C.J. Anderson Monday, April 16.

Footballguys view: Booker may not be there for long. Expect the Broncos to select a running back in the 2018 NFL draft, perhaps in the first round at no.5 overall if Saquon Barkley (Penn State) is there.

Broncos | Devontae Booker the lead back?    Sat Feb 17, 11:00 PM

The Denver Broncos are hoping RB Devontae Booker emerges as the No. 1 running back in 2018, according to Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com, and Legwold believes RB C.J. Anderson may not be back with the team.

Footballguys view: The Broncos coaching staff likes Booker. Now it's time to see if he can play at a high level. Booker is swift and tough to bring down when he builds a head of steam. However, he is often banged up and has only averaged a measly 3.6 yards per carry through two seasons in the NFL. With this great RB class in the 2018 NFL draft, we think the Broncos would be wise to add a rookie with a premium pick to push or unseat Booker as the top back.

Broncos | More carries for Devontae Booker?    Fri Nov 3, 11:15 PM

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker has made the most of his limited touches, according to head coach Vance Joseph. 'He's a young guy with strong, fresh legs,' Joseph said. 'He has great ball skills. As we go along here, he should get more opportunities.'

Footballguys view: All fantasy owners need to take note here. Booker may be on some waiver wires out there, and he needs to be stashed on your bench if possible. The Broncos really like Booker and had plans for him to be the starting back before he injured his wrist in June. As Booker gets more touches..and perhaps even starts for the Broncos...it will decrease the role for C.J. Anderson. Using more Booker could also really impact the touches for backup Jamaal Charles.

Broncos | Devontae Booker has his best game of '17    Mon Oct 30, 11:53 PM

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker rushed for a season-high 40 yards on six carries and scored his first touchdown of the year in the team's Week 8 loss Monday, Oct. 30, versus the Kansas City Chiefs. He also had three receptions for 14 yards.

Footballguys view: It's interesting to note that during the broadcast they said Booker would have been the lead back had he not been banged up before training camp. Fantasy owners need to see this Broncos team as a full fledged RBBC with three backs.

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker's (wrist) status for the Week 4 game against the Oakland Raiders will be determined Sunday, Oct. 1, according to head coach Vance Joseph.

Footballguys view: Booker has been practicing for about three weeks, but he has yet to make his season debut. He missed all of training camp and the preseason due to this injury, and when he returns Booker could get a series or two in order to spell starter C.J. Anderson.

Broncos | Devontae Booker listed as limited    Thu Sep 14, 06:19 PM

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker (wrist) was limited during practice Thursday, Sept. 14.

Broncos | Devontae Booker expected to sit again    Wed Sep 13, 08:47 PM

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker (wrist) is not expected to play in Week 2 even though he was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 13, according to head coach Vance Joseph.

Footballguys view: Booker is getting back into shape and participated in the team's 'jog through' practice on Wednesday. He may be back in Week 3. His return impacts the roles of C.J. Anderson and Jamaal Charles.

Broncos | Devontae Booker's work is limited    Wed Sep 13, 05:36 PM

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker (wrist) was listed as a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Sept. 13.

Footballguys view: Booker isn't going to play in Week 2 per head coach Vance Joseph. However, he did participate in the team's 'jog through' on Wednesday. Booker will return in the near future, and that should lower the touches for guys like C.J. Anderson and Jamaal Charles. Anderson is the bell cow for now, but he's on pace for over 300 carries and he's never had 200 carries during a season in his career. Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker's (wrist) X-rays on his injured wrist looked good and he may practice as soon as this week or next week, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Booker was always pegged for a return in Week 2 or Week 3 and it looks like he's on track. When healthy, Booker will push for snaps in the backfield with starter C.J. Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker (wrist) returned to practice Wednesday, Aug. 23. He is hoping to be back in action by Week 3 of the regular season.

Footballguys view: Booker is coming back to a somewhat crowded backfield. C.J. Anderson is the starter and behind him we could see Jamaal Charles or rookie DeAngelo Henderson mixed in as the change-of-pace back. Unless Anderson gets banged up (again), we don't see much of a role for Booker.

Footballguys view: Expect CJ Anderson's ADP to rise from 23rd back and 59 overall, though how much Jamaal Charles may impact it is still a question mark. That said, Anderson is likely to be the lead back and carry a full load until Booker gets back, at the very least.

Broncos | Devontae Booker to have surgery    Thu Jul 27, 11:04 AM

Updating an earlier report, Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker (wrist) will have surgery Friday, July 28, and will miss at least six weeks. He could be ready for Week 1.

Footballguys view: Booker was supposed to compete with C.J. Anderson for the starting job in Denver. Now he'll show up-- maybe in Week 1, maybe not--and find Anderson as the lead back. Booker might end up fighting with Jamaal Charles for the number two spot. Anderson has tracked as the 23 running back off the board in early drafts, with an overall ADP of 59, but you can expect that to zip up, fast, over the next few weeks.

Broncos | Devontae Booker has wrist fracture    Thu Jul 27, 09:53 AM

Updating previous reports, Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker (wrist) has a fractured wrist that he has been lifting with for weeks, according to a source. He aggravated it in training.

Footballguys view: Man, that's just bad. This is why athletes have to immediately check in with a trainer or medical professional when they feel pain, kids. Because he likely took an injury which might have slowed him down for a couple weeks and made it bad enough to miss potentially 6 weeks. Booker was going to compete with C.J. Anderson for the starting job in Denver, but with him missing training camp, that's not happening. Write Anderson in as the lead back, with Jamaal Charles behind him to be brought along slowly. Don't be shocked if rookie DeAngelo Henderson plays well too.
