Giants | Saquon Barkley having surgery    Fri Oct 30, 11:50 AM

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley (knee) told NFL Network's Kim Jones that he's having surgery on his torn anterior cruciate ligament Friday, Oct. 30.

Footballguys view: Keep this in mind when calculating when Barkley should be back on the field. Letting the swelling going down in his knee was part of the delay, but the surgeon being the team doctor for the Dodgers, who just completed a World Series victory, also contributed to the date being this late.

Giants | Saquon Barkley to undergo ACL surgery    Sat Oct 24, 08:39 AM

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley (knee) is scheduled to undergo reconstructive surgery on his anterior cruciate ligament next week and doctors are optimistic that he will be ready for training camp. Barkley needed to wait for his medial collateral ligament injury to heal before he was eligible to undergo ACL surgery.

Footballguys view: It usually takes around 12 months for ACL injuries to fully heal after surgery. That means Barkley is likely to be limited in training camp next year and may not be quite himself until the midway point of the 2021 season. We'll be watching closely for any updates during the next offseason.

Giants | Saquon Barkley lands on IR    Tue Sep 22, 01:54 PM

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley (knee) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee Tuesday, Sept. 22. CB Ryan Lewis was elevated from the practice squad to take Barkley's spot on the roster.

Footballguys view: This is a major knee injury for Barkley, but hopefully he can be back in action at the start of the 2021 season. Barkley is a RB1 for Fantasy GMs if he's at full strength and we're hopeful he can get there for next season. The Giants move forward with (likely) Devonta Freeman, Dion Lewis and Wayne Gallman.

Giants | Saquon Barkley's season over    Mon Sep 21, 12:25 PM

Updating previous reports, New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley (knee) will miss the rest of the season due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Footballguys view: Just another gut punch for Fantasy GMs here. The silver lining is that Barkley should be ready for the start of the 2021 season. The Giants have Dion Lewis and Wayne Gallman on the roster to replace Barkley. Expect them to look at Devonta Freeman in the near future.

Giants | Saquon Barkley may have torn ACL    Sun Sep 20, 04:10 PM

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley (knee) left the Week 2 game early, and the Giants fear that Barkley suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament, according to sources. The team will have an official diagnosis after Barkley undergoes tests Monday, Sept. 21.

Footballguys view: This is a huge blow not just for the Giants and fantasy teams but anyone who loves watching excellent football players. Dion Lewis will be the starter, but Wayne Gallman will get some work and the whole Giants offense takes a step back with this development heading into a tough matchup against a somewhat depleted 49ers defense.

Giants | Saquon Barkley injured on consecutive plays    Sun Sep 20, 01:44 PM

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley (arm, leg) landed awkwardly on his left arm Sunday, Sept. 20, vs. the Chicago Bears. He went to the sideline and returned for a play. He was tackled out of bounds, immediately grabbing for his right knee while in obvious pain. Team trainers helped him to the sideline, and he is currently being evaluated.

Footballguys view: Barkley was carted to the locker room. We hope for the best but fear the worst. Wayne Gallman and Dion Lewis will split the work while Barkley is out.

Giants | Saquon Barkley shut down on perimeter in 2019    Tue Jun 9, 11:19 PM

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley averaged only 2.1 yards per carry on runs outside the tackles in 2019 after picking up 4.4 yards per attempt on such runs as a rookie.

Footballguys view: The Giants had a poor offensive line last year and that's one of the reasons why we saw Barkley struggle at times in year two. Add in the fact that he was banged up for most of the year and missed three games, and you can see why Barkley's numbers didn't get close to the amazing output he had as a rookie in 2018. With an improved offensive line and full health, Barkley could easily be in for a bounce-back season in 2020.

Giants | Saquon Barkley finished on high note    Sun May 31, 09:55 PM

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley averaged 131 rushing yards on 6.24 yards per carry in the final three games of the 2019 season, and he scored five of his eight total touchdowns in that span.

Footballguys view: Barkley wasn't himself last year as he was banged up and missed three games. At full strength this year, Barkley should look more like the rookie that took the league by storm in 2018. He's a must-start RB1 for Fantasy GMs on a weekly basis.

Giants | Saquon Barkley not worried about contract    Thu May 14, 12:57 PM

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley, who is entering the third-year of his rookie contract, doesn't sound concerned about getting a new contract at some point. 'I'm a big believer in taking care of the little things first. I'm going to be the best player and leader I can be. If I take care of that, the rest will take care of itself,' Barkley said. He also noted he was excited to see the team adding to the offensive line during the NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: Barkley wants to have a bounce-back season in 2020. The team struggled last year on offense and Barkley played while banged up (in addition to missing three games). Even in a down season, Barkley was a top-10 fantasy running back. If healthy and effective or productive as he was as a rookie, Barkley can finish as a top-3 back. He has a current ADP of RB2 (1.02) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Giants | Saquon Barkley much less elusive in 2019    Wed Mar 25, 11:07 PM

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley managed to break only 16 tackles on 217 rushing attempts last season - once every 13.6 carries - after doing so 30 times on 261 attempts in 2018 - once every 8.7 attempts.

Footballguys view: Barkley wasn't healthy last year. We don't need advanced data to see that. Anyone could watch him play and know that he wasn't right compared to the player we saw when he was a rookie in 2018. We're expecting Barkley to have a bounce-back season in 2020.

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley rushed for 83 yards on 19 carries against the Green Bay Packers in Week 13. He also caught three passes for 32 yards during the game.

Footballguys view: Barkley got going as a runner to an extent but he still had little effect on the outcome of this game and fantasy matchups this week. He'll still be in lineups next week against the Eagles, but expectations will be low.

Giants | Saquon Barkley not blaming slump on injury    Wed Nov 27, 10:58 PM

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley was adamant Wednesday, Nov. 27, that his relatively poor play of late isn't the result of injury. 'Did I look hurt?' Barkley said, interrupting a question about a 22-yard run against the Chicago Bears in Week 12. 'I know that's where you're going towards (with this question). So did I look hurt? No. So let's stop making an excuse that I'm hurt. I'm not hurt. Let's stop making an excuse that I'm not 100%. No one's 100%.'

Giants | Saquon Barkley just so-so in Week 12    Sun Nov 24, 07:20 PM

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley rushed 17 times a game-high 59 yards while adding two grabs for just one yard on three targets in Week 12 against the Chicago Bears.

Footballguys view: Barkley dropped an early pass that could been a nice gain and never created any momentum in this game despite a good matchup against the Akiem Hicks-less Bears run defense. He'll face a possibly even better matchup against the Packers run defense next week.

Giants | Saquon Barkley held in check    Sun Nov 10, 05:39 PM

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley rushed for one yard on 13 carries against the New York Jets in Week 10. He also caught five passes for 30 yards during the game.

Footballguys view: Barkley was frustrated all day and couldn't get going against a Jets defense missing many front seven defenders. The bye this week should be good for him.

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley rushed for 64 yards on 19 carries against the Detroit Lions in Week 8. He also caught eight passes for 79 yards and one touchdown during the game.

Footballguys view: Barkley didn't look affected by his ankle injury this week after coming up gimpy at times last week. He's back to being one of the most valuable players in fantasy football.

Giants | Saquon Barkley poised for big game?    Fri Oct 25, 10:07 PM

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley faces the Detroit Lions in Week 8, and the Lions have the 28th-ranked run defense in the NFL.

Footballguys view: Barkley is poised for a big game every week he plays, regardless of the opponent. However, against a poor rush defense like the Lions he should have a field day. Barkley is a no-brainer starter every week for Fantasy GMs.

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley (ankle) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 25, and is not on the injury report for Week 8.
