QB Josh Allen completed 18-of-25 passes for 224 yards, three touchdowns and an interception before giving way to QB Matt Barkley in the second half. The latter had 164 pass yards and a touchdown. RB Antonio Williams led the way with 63 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while RBs Zack Moss and Devin Singletary had three runs and less than 10 yards apiece, mostly resting. WR Gabriel Davis ended up with two snags of 50-plus yards, ending up with 107 yards and a touchdown on his two catches. WR Stefon Diggs finished with seven receptions for 76 yards on eight targets, WR John Brown posted four catches for 72 yards and a score, while WR Isaiah McKenzie posted six receptions, 65 yards and two scores on a team-high nine targets. TE Dawson Knox also chipped in with two grabs for 29 yards on eight targets.
Footballguys view: Most expected the Bills to open play Allen long enough to set the team record for passing yards in a season, but he played the whole first half, which was too much for Miami to overcome. Diggs will lead the NFL in receptions and yards with the help of this effort and Brown looked good in his return from injury with Cole Beasley uncertain for next week's game against Indianapolis. |

Buffalo Bills QB Matt Barkley is expected to be the No. 2 quarterback this season, and head coach Sean McDermott said he has confidence in Barkley.
Footballguys view: That should end any talk of fifth-round round Jake Fromm potentially costing Barkley a roster spot. Barkley can keep the pass offense semi-functional if he is called on, which is possible since Josh Allen shows no regard for his health when he is outside of the pocket. |

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen made a cameo in Week 17 against the New York Jets, completing 3-of-5 passes for five yards before turning it over to QB Matt Barkley, who was 18-of-35 for 232 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions. RB Frank Gore ran six times for 26 yards while adding three grabs for 16 yards. RB T.J. Yeldon checked in with seven runs for 18 yards and three catches for 24 yards as RB Devin Singletary rested. WR Duke Williams led the way with six receptions while adding game bests with 108 yards and 12 targets.
Footballguys view: The Bills are back in the playoffs and it feels like just being there isn't good enough. Williams has had some moments in his "rookie" season and should stick with the team next year. Yeldon has been a non-factor and didn't do anything to change that today. |

Buffalo Bills QB Matt Barkley is being prepared to start Sunday against the Tennessee Titans in Week 5, according to head coach Sean McDermott Monday, Sept. 30, as starter Josh Allen (concussion) remains in the concussion protocol.
Footballguys view: We'll see if Allen can clear the concussion protocol later in the week. If Barkley starts that means you could use the Titans as a streaming defense. |

Buffalo Bills QB Matt Barkley is believed to be the frontrunner over QB Tyree Jackson for the primary backup job behind QB Josh Allen, according to beat writer Jay Skurski.
Footballguys view: Jackson has a skillset and top-end size/athleticism combination similar to Allen's even though he was an undrafted free agent. Some think he could have greatly improved his draft stock if he had gone back to school. He should be slowly developed as a #3, but projects as an ideal backup to Allen. |

Free-agent QB Matt Barkley (Bengals) signed a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills Wednesday, Oct. 31. Financial terms weren't disclosed.
Footballguys view: The team has to be concerned with Derek Anderson (concussion). We already know Nathan Peterman is starting in Week 9. If Anderson is out, Barkley would back up Peterman. |

Free-agent QB Matt Barkley (Bengals) has a visit scheduled with the Buffalo Bills Wednesday, Oct. 30. If he signs he could serve as the Bills' backup quarterback this week with injuries to QBs Josh Allen (elbow) and Derek Anderson (concussion).
Footballguys view: The Bills need to do something with both Allen and Anderson banged up. If they feel Anderson won't be able to get through the concussion protocol this week, then we could see them add Barkley. |

Cincinnati Bengals QB Matt Barkley (knee) has been diagnosed with a grade 3 medial collateral ligament sprain after suffering the injury during the final preseason game, according to a source.
Footballguys view: This makes Jeff Driskel the primary backup to Andy Dalton to begin the 2018 season. Barkley could be a candidate for the Reserve/Injured list but may have a chance to return at some point in 2018. |

Cincinnati Bengals QB Matt Barkley (knee) suffered a left knee injury during the preseason game Thursday, Aug. 30, and will not return.

Cincinnati Bengals QB Matt Barkley brings starting experience and a quality arm, according to quarterbacks coach Alex Van Pelt, and Van Pelt said Barkley's timing with the routes in the playbook has been improving.
Footballguys view: The Bengals need a backup QB since AJ McCarron left and Barkley looks like the favorite. Barkley had a moment or two of promise with the Bears, but Cincinnati will be in big trouble if Dalton goes down. |

Cincinnati Bengals QBs Jeff Driskel and Matt Barkley are expected to compete for the backup quarterback job during training camp.
Footballguys view: Barkley has more experience and that may give him a leg up in the competition. Driskel is athletic and can make throws on the move with ease, but he's raw and needs to make better decisions with the ball when under duress. He's more interesting in deep dynasty leagues right now because of the unknown surrounding his game. |

Additionally, S Tyvon Branch (knee) , OT D.J. Humphries (knee) and TE Ifeanyi Momah (ankle) were placed on the Reserve/Injured list.

San Francisco 49ers QB Matt Barkley, RB Tim Hightower and WR Louis Murphy were released Friday, Sept. 1. The team also waived RB Kapri Bibbs, FB Tyler McCloskey, WR Tim Patrick and PK Nick Rose.
Footballguys view: Rookie UDFA Matt Breida appears to be the backup to Carlos Hyde in the 49ers backfield. Hyde hasn't been the most durable over the course of his career, so file Breida's name away, as he appears to be ahead of fourth-round pick Joe Williams. |

San Francisco 49ers QB C.J. Beathard will serve as the No. 2 quarterback in the preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings Sunday, Aug. 27. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said Beathard is still competing with Matt Barkley for the primary backup job.
Footballguys view: Brian Hoyer isn't the best at staying healthy or holding down a quarterback job. We could see Beathard by the end of the season. |

San Francisco 49ers QB C.J. Beathard has earned the right to compete with QB Matt Barkley for the backup job during the preseason, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan.

San Francisco 49ers QB Brian Hoyer is No. 1 on the depth chart, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan, followed by QB Matt Barkley and QB C.J. Beathard. 'We are bringing C.J. here to develop,' Shanahan said.
Footballguys view: Beathard is an interesting developmental quarterback. He's got the ability to stretch the field with his arm strength, and Beathard does a good job with bucket throws. They'll need to work on his intermediate and short accuracy if Beathard is ever to develop into a starting option. |

The San Francisco 49ers are likely looking at positions other than quarterback with the No. 2 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft after signing QB Brian Hoyer and QB Matt Barkley, according to Bucky Brooks of NFL.com.
Footballguys view: The 49ers have plenty of time to find their next franchise QB. They won't rush it by overdrafting a QB in a bad class for passers. We still feel the 49ers get Kirk Cousins, either by trade this year or as a free agent next year. |

The San Francisco 49ers will continue to look for quarterbacks this offseason despite signing Brian Hoyer and Matt Barkley in free agency, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan, who added he doesn't know whether the team will address the position in the free agency or the draft.
Footballguys view: The team is still in the market for Kirk Cousins. We could see Cousins and Shanahan reunited, whether it's this year via trade or next year as a free agent. The 49ers have time to build things the right way, and they're not going to rush any decision at the most important position in football. |

Chicago Bears QB Matt Barkley went 24-for-40 for 323 yards, two touchdowns and five interceptions against the Washington Redskins in Week 16.
Footballguys view: Barkley's interception number is horrendous, but he has still been effective enough to move the offense somewhat consistently, so he has still upped his stock going into free agency. |
Matt Barkley player page

Chicago Bears QB Matt Barkley completed 30 of his 43 pass attempts for 362 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions in the Week 15 game against the Green Bay Packers.
Footballguys view: Barkley has shown tremendous ability to operate in the cold and snow of Chicago for a Southern California college quarterback. He has 2QB/Superflex value against Washington next week and has made himself a lot of money as a long-term backup, if not a potential bridge quarterback in the future. |

Chicago Bears QB Matt Barkley went 11-for-18 for 192 yards against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 13.
Footballguys view: Barkley had two deep balls dropped by Josh Bellamy or he could have had an even bigger day. He's coming on as a 2QB/Superflex option heading to Detroit. |
Matt Barkley player page

Chicago Bears QB Matt Barkley completed 28 of his 54 pass attempts for 316 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in the Week 12 game against the Tennessee Titans. He wasn't sacked, and he did fumble once although the team was able to recover.
Footballguys view: Barkley was let down by drops or he could have won this game in thrilling comeback fashion. He wasn't nearly as poor as expected and Barkley kept the pass offense viable despite missing the top two receivers and tight end. He'll be a low-end streamer and DFS consideration against the 49ers next week. |

Chicago Bears QB Matt Barkley has impressed the coaching staff with his poise and intelligence, but offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains said it has been a challenge to build a game plan Barkley will be comfortable with for Week 12 against the Tennessee Titans.
Footballguys view: Barkley will be barely functional on an NFL field if his first action this year is any indication. The Titans D/ST looks like a good play this week, especially with Kyle Long, the lynchpin of the Bears OL, out. |
