Washington Football Team QB Kyle Allen (ankle) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Monday, Nov. 16.
Footballguys view: This move is just procedural as Allen is undergoing season-ending ankle surgery. Alex Smith continues as the starter with Allen done for the year, and 2019 first-round pick Dwayne Haskins will continue to back him up. |

Updating previous reports, Washington Football Team QB Kyle Allen (ankle) will require surgery on his dislocated ankle, and his season is over.
Footballguys view: Washington now turns to Alex Smith as their starter. He should continue feeding WR Terry McLaurin (and RB J.D. McKissic) and the team needs to keep featuring RB Antonio Gibson in the backfield. That means 2019 first-round pick Dwayne Haskins should be activated as Smith's primary backup. |

Washington Football Team QB Alex Smith went 24-for-32 for 325 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions against the New York Giants in Week 9 after replacing QB Kyle Allen (ankle).
Footballguys view: Smith was much better than his first relief appearance this year and it looks like he can sustain the value of Terry McLaurin in addition to retaining his title as checkdown king, buoying the value of J.D. McKissic. We'll expect him to start and have QB2/Superflex/Streamer value against the Lions next week even though he threw multiple picks with the game on the line this week. |

Washington Football Team QB Kyle Allen went 15-for-25 for 194 yards and two touchdowns against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 7.
Footballguys view: Allen wasn't a huge hit against the Cowboys, but only because the Dallas offense did nothing to stay in the game and Washington was able to mothball the offense in the second half. Allen goes into his bye with a chance to lead Washington to a playoff spot in the abysmal NFC East. |

Washington Football Team QB Kyle Allen (arm) will resume as starter in Week 6 after he was taken out of the Week 5 game with an abundance of caution.

Washington Football Team QB Alex Smith completed 9-of-17 passes for 37 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 5 against the Los Angeles Rams after taking over for the injured QB Kyle Allen (arm).
Footballguys view: Smith looked overwhelmed and didn't move or throw like he did before his numerous leg surgeries. This is an uplifting story, but if Washington is being honest with themselves, they won't put him out there again. |

Washington Football Team QB Kyle Allen is the starter on a game-by-game basis, head coach Ron Rivera said Thursday, Oct. 8.
Footballguys view: No surprise here. We wouldn't be shocked to see Alex Smith start some games for Washington if Allen struggles. It also wouldn't be terribly surprising to see Dwayne Haskins get back into the lineup later in the year. |

Washington Football Team QB Kyle Allen will start in Week 5 against the Los Angeles Rams.
Footballguys view: Allen takes over at quarterback for 2019 first-round pick Dwayne Haskins. It's not a surprise given that Haskins was not selected by this new coaching staff and he's been on thin ice from the start of the regular season. Allen has experience under Washington head coach Ron Rivera and is a game-manager type of quarterback. If the team struggles with Allen, they could turn back to Haskins later in the year. |
