Vikings | Ameer Abdullah totals 10 touches    Tue Dec 24, 12:47 AM

Minnesota Vikings RB Ameer Abdullah managed four runs for 27 yards in Week 16 against the Green Bay Packers and he added six receptions for 31 yards on a team-high seven targets.

Vikings | Ameer Abdullah catches TD    Thu Aug 29, 10:04 PM

Minnesota Vikings RB Ameer Abdullah rushed five times for 21 yards and caught a 15-yard touchdown in a 27-23 preseason loss to the Buffalo Bills Thursday, Aug. 29.

Footballguys view: The 2015 second-round pick is probably going to the street in favor of Mike Boone as the #3 back in Minnesota. He could be on tryout lists and get back on a roster at some point this year, but it's clear that he's never going to fulfill expectations in the NFL.

Vikings | Ameer Abdullah slated for return duty    Wed Aug 7, 01:33 AM

Minnesota Vikings RB Ameer Abdullah is listed as the starter at both kick and punt returner on the first unofficial depth chart of the preseason.

Footballguys view: Abdullah has failed to impress as a running back during his pro career. He's got a shot with the Vikings but will need to provide value as a return man if he wants to make the team.

Vikings | Ameer Abdullah re-signs    Mon Mar 18, 04:04 PM

Free-agent RB Ameer Abdullah (Vikings) re-signed an undisclosed deal with the Minnesota Vikings Monday, March 18.

Footballguys view: The Vikings lost Latavius Murray (Saints) in free agency, so they needed depth at the position behind starter Dalvin Cook. Abdullah has failed to impress as a pro. The second-round pick (2015) out of Nebraska has plenty of speed but doesn't work well in cramped space. He played in seven games in 2018 for the Vikings, contributing mostly as a kickoff returner. That should be his same role in 2019 with a chance to get some touches on offense here and there.

Vikings | Minnesota claims Ameer Abdullah    Wed Nov 7, 04:22 PM

The Minnesota Vikings claimed RB Ameer Abdullah off waivers from the Detroit Lions Wednesday, Nov. 7.

Footballguys view: The Vikings add Abdullah and let go of Roc Thomas in a corresponding move. Abdullah failed to impress with the Lions after they took him in the second round of the 2015 NFL draft. He'll serve as a change-of-pace back and veteran depth behind Dalvin Cook and Latavius Murray.

Lions | Detroit adds Bruce Ellington    Tue Nov 6, 02:22 PM

Free-agent WR Bruce Ellington (Texans) was signed to an undisclosed deal by the Detroit Lions Tuesday, Nov. 6. RB Ameer Abdullah was waived in a corresponding move.

Footballguys view: The Lions are looking for help at the no3 wide receiver position. They traded away Golden Tate (Eagles) last week and didn't get much production from T.J. Jones on Sunday. We'll see if Ellington, coming off a career high 29 catches for the Texans in 2017, can work his way into the mix behind starters Marvin Jones Jr. and Kenny Golladay.

Lions | Ameer Abdullah could have role    Fri Oct 19, 10:28 PM

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah could see some action in passing situations with RB Theo Riddick (knee) ruled out against the Miami Dolphins in Week 8.

Footballguys view: Abdullah has been buried on the depth chart but now may see some snaps with Riddick down. We're not expecting much, but it will be interesting to see what he brings to the game if he gets some playing time. Abdullah will have to get a chance with a different team next year once he hits free agency to get a better shot at more playing time.

Lions | Ameer Abdullah to remain a non-factor    Fri Oct 12, 11:26 PM

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah will need an injury to one of Detroit's other three backs in order to become part of the rotation again, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.

Footballguys view: In other news...water is wet. Abdullah just has never played up to his potential in the pros. He's fast, quick and could make big plays but with the Lions he's struggled with injuries and inconsistencies. The Lions backfield would have to be decimated by injury before Abdullah had fantasy relevance. Dynasty GMs in super deep leagues should just hope he gets a shot with another team in the near future because it's not happening for Abdullah in Detroit.

Lions | Ameer Abdullah staying ready    Fri Sep 28, 10:37 PM

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah said he is not in the position he wants to be in the offense, but he is staying ready in case his 'number is called' and isn't changing his work ethic.

Footballguys view: That's good news for Abdullah. He's been a disappointment to this point in his career and we don't think things would be much different if he all of a sudden got a larger role. Rookie Kerryon Johnson has emerged in the Lions backfield after recording the team's first 100-yard game in five years last Sunday.

Lions | Week 3 Detroit Lions inactives    Sun Sep 23, 06:58 PM

The Detroit Lions have declared OG Joe Dahl, RB Ameer Abdullah, OT Andrew Donnal, TE Michael Roberts, WR Brandon Powell, DL Kerry Hyder and DL Ziggy Ansah inactive for Week 3.

Footballguys view: Ansah is by far the best pass rusher on the team, so they will miss him against Tom Brady and company. The Lions defense at least got shutdown Darius Slay back after a Week 2 concussion.

Lions | Ameer Abdullah on the bubble    Fri Aug 31, 09:02 AM

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah is on the roster bubble as the team has a hard decision to make before the 53-man roster deadline, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Footballguys view: Abdullah needs to get onto another team if he is going to have fantasy relevance. It's early to give up on a second round pick, but the Lions wouldn't use or need Abdullah unless they suffer injuries in the backfield.

Lions | Ameer Abdullah to get plenty of work Thursday    Mon Aug 27, 10:10 PM

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah will likely see 'significant playing time' in the team's preseason finale against the Cleveland Browns on Thursday, Aug. 30.

Footballguys view: The days of Abdullah potentially being the lead back for the Lions are long gone. LeGarrette Blount, rookie Kerryon Johnson and Theo Riddick make up the backfield now. Abdullah is on the roster bubble. If he plays well in the preseason finale it might be enough to save his spot...or the team could be featuring him to draw interest for a trade. Stay tuned.

Lions | Ameer Abdullah standing out    Fri Aug 3, 12:53 PM

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah has caught the eye of OG T.J. Lang, who told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero that Abdullah has been the most impressive running back in camp so far.

Footballguys view: Abdullah and Theo Riddick are probably battling for snaps and touches in the Detroit offense, which means it's possible that neither are worth a roster spot in fantasy leagues this year without injury striking the Lions backfield. Abdullah is still worth holding in dynasty leagues in the hopes that next year his second team will use him more effectively.

Lions | Versatility to save Ameer Abdullah?    Thu Jul 12, 09:25 PM

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah's experience and his ability to contribute as a runner and a receiver out of the backfield should help him secure a spot on the 53-man roster, according to Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com.

Footballguys view: Abdullah has failed to live up to his second-round billing and will be marginalized this year, but the 25-year-old has arguably been misused and could have a future on his second team next year. Don't bail on him in dynasty leagues despite the lack of redraft appeal this year.

Lions | Ameer Abdullah unlikely to contribute much    Fri May 18, 12:24 PM

Detroit Lions RB Kerryon Johnson and LeGarrette Blount are expected to receive much of the early-down work with Theo Riddick playing a third-down role, potentially leaving Ameer Abdullah potentially as a game-day inactive or on the roster bubble, according to Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com.

Footballguys view: And what a mess this seems to be. This looks like a full-blown committee, which could limit every single back's value. We'll have to watch how this shakes out, but it looks grim for fantasy owners.

Lions | Ameer Abdullah frustrated with role    Sat May 12, 12:40 PM

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah said he was frustrated with the role he had in 2017 because he did not receive consistent touches during games.

Footballguys view: Abdullah needs to earn those consistent touches. He's been nothing but a disappointment during his pro career. However, some say he's just been misused as he should have never been considered a full-time back coming out of Nebraska years ago. Abdullah shouldn't be happy this year either as the Lions added LeGarrette Blount in free agency and Kerryon Johnson (Auburn) in the 2018 NFL draft. Add in Theo Riddick as the pass-catching back and you can see how Abdullah may not get many touches in 2018.

Lions | Ameer Abdullah on the block?    Sun Apr 15, 03:35 PM

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah would presumably be the easiest running back to move from the roster this offseason because he's in the final season of his rookie contract and his role appears to be less defined than LeGarrette Blount's or Theo Riddick's, according to ESPN's Michael Rothstein.

Footballguys view: Abdullah's pro career has been set back by inconsistency and injury. Too small to be a feature back, Abdullah has had his chance to prove himself as such and failed. The Lions have LeGarrette Blount to carry a heavy load and many expect them to select a RB in this talent rich 2018 draft class. Detroit should not expect much in return if they do get any takers for Abdullah.

Lions | Detroit to use committee backfield    Wed Apr 11, 01:37 PM

Detroit Lions RBs LeGarrette Blount, Ameer Abdullah, Theo Riddick and others are expected to be used as a committee, according to head coach Matt Patricia.

Footballguys view: Patricia is a proponent of using a running back's strengths in favorable situations...but his doesn't look like a favorable situation for fantasy owners. Blount could have the most value in leagues that reward heavily for touchdowns. Riddick should continue to be the most valuable Lions RB in PPR leagues while Abdullah remains a mystery as to what he can do and be as a pro.

Lions | Ameer Abdullah must produce    Fri Mar 2, 10:15 PM

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah has 'three-down value,' according to general manager Bob Quinn, but Quinn said he will have to perform well this offseason to 'prove himself' to the new coaching staff.

Footballguys view: Abdullah has been a bust for the Lions. He struggles to stay healthy and even when he's out there it's not like he is producing or even flashing. 2018 is certainly a make-or-break year for Abdullah.

Lions | Week 17 game recap for Lions    Sun Dec 31, 04:40 PM

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford completed 20-of-29 passes for 323 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 17 against the Green Bay Packers. RB Tion Green rushed for a team-high 21 yards, while RB Ameer Abdullah rushed eight times for 18 yards and a score. WR Golden Tate led the way with 104 yards on seven grabs with a score, while WRs Marvin Jones Jr. and Kenny Golladay also found the end zone. Jones had four grabs for 81 yards, and Golladay had 80 yards on his two grabs.

Footballguys view: Stafford and the Lions offense had one more excellent day in them, but the finish to the season feels disappointing after a more promising first half of the season. Jones established himself as a true WR1 this year and Golladay bookended the season with long touchdowns in a good sign for his future.

Lions | Ameer Abdullah on track to play    Thu Dec 14, 03:20 PM

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah (neck) fully participated in practice Thursday, Dec. 14, and is not on the injury report for Week 15.

Footballguys view: while he is healthy, the Lions weren't using him a ton when we last saw him in Week 12 and that should continue especially as Theo Riddick has done so well in both the running and passing phases of the game. At best we see Abdullah as an RB4.

Lions | Ameer Abdullah expected back    Wed Dec 13, 11:03 AM

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah (neck) is expected to return in Week 15.

Footballguys view: Abdullah should return this week and that negatively impacts the fantasy value of Theo Riddick. We'd seen Riddick thrive as a runner (and he usually produces as a pass-catcher) in the Lions offense without Abdullah. If Abdullah plays against the Bears on Saturday he's nothing more than a 'what the heck' flex we don't trust. Riddick would go from a borderline RB1 to more of a RB2 or flex option in PPR leagues.

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah (neck) worked on a limited basis in practice Friday, Dec. 8, and he is listed as questionable for Week 14 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Lions | Ameer Abdullah also limited    Thu Dec 7, 04:22 PM

Footballguys view: We're not confident Abdullah will be greenlit this weekend against Tampa Bay, which would make Theo Riddick the chief back, although he will split some carries with Tion Green. Riddick should serve as a decent RB3 with some upside depending on Matt Stafford's ability to throw with his injured hand.
