RB Knile Davis
Outlook: Knile Davis fell to the Chiefs last year because of concerns over his injury history and propensity to fumble. Both issues reared their head in 2013, but that didn't prevent him from generating some excitement in the process. Davis saw limited action early but finished with a scoring flurry. Through the first 11 weeks of the season he had 21 carries, 4 receptions and 3 kickoff returns. From week 12 through the Chiefs playoff loss he received 88 touches and converted them into 7 touchdowns. Davis flashed his blazing top speed on a 108 yard touchdown return in week 12 but all too often failed to reach top speed as evidenced by his 3.5 yards per carry (starter Jamaal Charles averaged 5.0). Concerns over Davis' hands proved to be accurate as he fumbled 3 times in 88 touches, and he fractured his fibula in the playoff loss to the Colts. Davis has recovered from his injury but the question remains whether he'll be durable enough to handle the load if Jamaal Charles is lost for a long period.
RB James Starks
Outlook: Although Starks posted some of his best offensive statistics last season, he still had 11 games with fewer than 10 fantasy points, including eight games with less than five. By the end of the season, he will probably finish somewhere in the 45-50 range for fantasy backs. He may have a good game or two, especially if Eddie Lacy goes down to injury. But as long as Lacy is involved, Starks will have very limited upside.
RB James White
Outlook: With both Shane Vereen and Stevan Ridley in contract years, it made sense for the Patriots to grab a back for the future. James White is a patient runner with decent speed and clear football smarts. He can pass-protect as well, and rarely fumbles the ball. This year you probably won't see much of him, barring injury to Vereen or Ridley, but he's worth a later pick just in case and will have value in 2015, when he might carry the load.
RB Lance Dunbar
Outlook: Dunbar has been a limited contributor in his first two seasons, notching 225 yards on 51 career carries. Yet fantasy owners would do well to remember Dunbar on draft day as he looks poised to be DeMarco Murray's primary backup. New OC Scott Linehan made liberal use of both Reggie Bush and Joique Bell in Detroit, and has praised Dunbar's multi-faceted skill set since joining the Cowboys staff. At 5'8", 191 lbs Dunbar isn't suited to a full-time role, but he can factor in certain formations and on 3rd downs.
RB Dexter McCluster
Outlook: While the Titans didn't give Dexter McCluster a huge contract in free agency, they did appear to overpay him to make sure that he signed on in Tennessee. McCluster should feature prominently on special teams, but his contract suggests he will also be used a lot on offense. Unless Bishop Sankey establishes himself as the third down back, that role should be McCluster's. That should be the floor of his expectations.
