FanDuel was back at it again with their massive Week 6 Sunday Million contest, requiring a $25 entry fee with 46,000 people getting paid out. This massive $5 million GPP tournament had 229,885 entries available for buy-in and ended up selling out about an hour before lineups locked. Each week FanDuel will be running a Sunday Million GPP Contest and we will break it down here at Footballguys.com and see what the keys were to having the top lineup on the week and taking home the top prize of $1 million.
Here's how Week 6 of the Sunday Million shook out.
|
DFS Screen Name | Points | Prize Money |
1st | adrianbeatyerson | 205.80 | $1,000,000 |
2nd | sparty11 | 204.80 | $350,000 |
3rd | jakobe21 | 204.70 | $150,000 |
4th | tjv2015 | 203.14 | $100,000 |
5th | lilemavs10 | 202.42 | $75,000 |
Last week it was joshua9028 who took home the million dollar top prize with only having 8 total NFL wins on FanDuel to his name and this week we get a similar performance from adrianbeatyerson who also only had 23 NFL wins to his name before this massive $1,000,000 victory. adrianbeatyerson beat hung on to beat sparty11 by a single point as sparty11 was riding the wave of DeMarco Murray on Monday Night Football. With such a large field tournament it goes to show you that you don't have to be a DFS veteran to be able to compete in the large GPP tournaments.
Adrianbeatyerson had a very well balanced team overall with every player scoring in the double digits and Travis Kelce and Matt Prater as his lowest scoring players at 11.3 and 13.0 points each. The interesting point about this team is that he started it off at QB with Matthew Stafford who had 34.9 points but he did not stack it with Calvin Johnson who had a big game himself. The only stack on this team was with Stafford paired with his kicker Matt Prater. The QB/K stack is not one we usually see at the top of the leader board in these big GPP tournaments but with the price of the two this week (Stafford $6,900, Prater $4,500) it seemed to make a lot of sense.
At RB adrianbeatyerson started Chris Ivory and Matt Forte and got some solid performances out of those two with 27.1 and 18.4 FanDuel points. This was a week where a lot of the top RB picks seemed to not live up to the hype and picking a pair of RBs that scored 15+ points each was going to help set your team a part from the rest. At WR he hit it big with his trio of DeAndre Hopkins, Keenan Allen, and John Brown with 31.8, 22.7, and 22.6 points respectively. Hopkins and Allen seemed to be easy calls as they were both seeing crazy high targets from their QBs in previous games but it was only Hopkins that was highly owned at 32.2% where as Allen was only 3.2% owned.
Rounding out the nine man team it was Travis Kelce at TE who scored 11.3 points, Matt Prater at kicker for 13.0 and the Miami Dolphins defense for 24.0 points. The TE position was much like RBs this week that you wanted to get a guy that would score you 10+ points and paying up for Gronkowski would limit your ability to spend up at other positions especially when he didn't have a multi touchdown performance. The Dolphins defense was the play this week at defense as they were priced at $4,400 and were only owned by 1.6% of the field. Finding a defense such as Miami that outscores the likes of a popular play such as the New York Jets (owned by 23.1%) by 4x the value is going to give you a huge advantage over the field.
Position | Player | Salary | FanDuel Points | % Owned |
QB | Matthew Stafford | $6,900 | 34.90 | 5.2% |
RB | Chris Ivory | $7,300 | 27.10 | 18.8% |
RB | Matt Forte | $8,400 | 18.40 | 19.2% |
WR | DeAndre Hopkins | $8,500 | 31.80 | 32.2% |
WR | Keenan Allen | $7,700 | 22.70 | 3.2% |
WR | John Brown | $6,100 | 22.60 | 3.6% |
TE | Antonio Gates | $6,200 | 11.30 | 3.3% |
K | Matt Prater | $4,500 | 13.00 | 2.6% |
D | Miami Dolphins | $4,400 | 24.00 | 1.6% |
$60,000 | 205.80 |
Going through the top 10 teams in Week 6 of the Sunday Million it was Matthew Stafford who was the QB that you wanted to have rostered as he was priced under $8,000 and was on 8 of the top 10 teams. The other two QBs to crack the top ten were Blake Bortles and Brian Hoyer who were each on a single team. At running back it was somewhat similar with Chris Ivory being on 8 of 10 teams and DeMarco Murray and Matt Forte being each on 4 teams. Arian Foster was on 2 teams and Justin Forsett and LeGarrette Blount each on a single team.
At WR DeAndre Hopkins was most popular and was on all 5 of the top teams and 7 out of the top 10. Calvin Johnson was equally owned in the top 10 with 7 teams owning him. John Brown, Alshon Jeffery and Keenan Allen were the next popular choices at the position and Torrey Smith, Allen Robinson, Brandon Marshall, Steve Smith, Martavis Bryant, Anquan Boldin, and Stefon Diggs were also each owned by a single team. Something of note on the WR position is that you almost have to nail the top two WR plays of the week such as DeAndre Hopkins and Calvin Johnson this week and try to find a third WR with upside at a discounted price.
Antonio Gates, Greg Olsen, and Julius Thomas were each owned twice in the top 10 at the tight end position. Travis Kelce, Tyler Eifert, Rob Gronkowski, and Gary Barnidge were each owned once. An interesting note at the position was that each of the top three teams had tight ends that none of the others in the top 10 had (Kelce, Eifert, Barnidge). At kicker it was Prater, McManus and Gould that were each rostered twice and Gostkowski, Walsh, Tucker, and Dawson each on a single entry. The Defense position was all about the Miami Dolphins coming out of the bye week and providing great value at just $4,400 as they scored 24 points and were rostered on 7 out of the 10 top teams in the Sunday Million.

First prize drops down from $1,000,000 to $500,000 but it will offer a more balanced payout structure.
