Mississippi State Impact Players
QB Dak Prescott $10,100 - If you like to take QB/WR combos in your DFS games look no further than a Dak Prescott to De'Runnya Wilson combo on Saturday Night. Sure it will cost you a big junk of your salary but you are getting two proven assets in the Mississippi State offense. Prescott is one of the best dual threat QB's in the country coming off a fantastic 2014 season that saw him pass for 3,449 yards and 27 touchdowns and run for another 986 yards and 14 more touchdowns. He will be one of the frontrunners for the Heisman trophy this season and a big game to start things off will look nice on his resume. Prescott and Kessler are the elite QB's on this slate (or any slate they will be on all year long) but you will have to pay up to take full advantage of their potential. Prescott adds a little more value with his running ability and would be the preferred play out of the two.
WR De'Runnya Wilson $5,200 - Wilson was outstanding in 2014, catching 47 passes for 680 yards and 9 touchdowns. It is the touchdowns you want to look at and if you can look in a touchdown and its 6 fantasy points that is huge. A player like Wilson gives you that upside every game but also has potential to have a multi touchdown performance and having Dak Prescott throwing you the ball is very helpful.
Southern Mississippi Impact Players
WR Michael Thomas $3,900- Thomas is really the only Southern Miss player I would recommend even considering in this matchup. He started out slow in 2014 with only 4 receptions in his first 3 games but then he followed that up with a couple of 100 yard games and a successful season of 41/592/5. Southern Mississippi will likely be playing from behind a good chunk of the game and a player like Thomas could benefit from that and receive a big chunk of targets.
ARKANSAS STATE VS USC
- Kickoff: Saturday 11:00 PM EST
- Spread: USC -27.5
- Over/Under: 69.5
Arkansas State - Impact Players
QB Fredi Knighten $7,200 - Coming in as a huge underdog it is hard to recommend too many players from Arkansas State. Knighten is the one guy that could be a factor as he will likely be playing from behind most of the night and will be forced to try to take shots down the field and play catchup football. Knighten enters his Senior season on a high note coming off a strong 2014 season. In 2014 he threw for 3,277 yards and 24 touchdowns and was a nice dual threat as he added 779 rushing yards and another 11 touchdowns. Those numbers are fine and wonderful when the competition is the likes of Montana State, Idaho, Appalachian State, or New Mexico State but what do you expect when he has to face the likes of a Pac-12 powerhouse in USC? What makes Knighten an interesting play is his dual threat ability and his potential for some garbage points in the second half of the game.
Other players of note:
RB Michael Gordon $6,600WR Tres Houston $4,200WR Dijon Paschal $3,900WR JD McKissic $4,500WR/TE Darion Griswold $3,100USC - Impact Players
QB Cody Kessler $9,300 - Cody Kessler has a lot of positives going for him heading into 2015 as USC will return their entire offensive line and he has plenty of talented receivers to look for down the field. Kessler turned down the NFL this year to return to USC and take a run at a National Championship and the Heisman trophy. Kessler had an excellent 2014 season passing for 3,826 yards and adding a 39/5 TD/INT rate. Kessler became the first Pac-12 QB to throw for 7 touchdowns in the first three quarters of a game against Colorado. In an opening game with such a high point spread in his favor you have to believe that USC and Kessler will be stepping on the gas right from the start and not letting go no matter the score right up until the final whistle. USC could try to pad the stats for themselves and for Kessler's Heisman campaign in this matchup against Arkansas State
RB Tre Madden $4,000 - Justin Davis is doubtful for Saturday's game so Tre Madden will get a big workload in a game that could get out of hand by halftime. He is a bargain at only $4,000 on DraftKings and he allows you to spend up elsewhere. You always like to use a RB in a game at home with a high point spread for your team. Although I see Kessler making plays early on in the game it could be Tre Madden getting some work near the endzone and maybe pounding the ball and seeing extra carries in the 2nd half if the Trojans are well ahead and want to try to run down the clock.
WR Juju Smith $6,900 - JuJu has all the tools to be a special WR this year and projects to be a top 10 as far as numbers go by seasons end. He posted a 54/724/5 statline last year and is set for an even bigger breakout with Nelson Agholor now off to the NFL. Kessler is loaded with talent at the WR position and he will use both Smith and Darreus Rogers as much as possible and this opening matchup against Arkansas State will be a nice warmup game for the entire passing offense.
WR Darreus Rogers $4,900 - Rogers returns with a 21/245/4 statline himself and even in limited looks in 2014, Kessler still looked for him in the end zone and now with only having to fight with Smith for targets, surely his 21 receptions will increase dramatically this season and it will all start on Saturday Night with a big opening performance.
