FanDuel was back at it again with their massive Week 7 Sunday Million contest, requiring a $25 entry fee with 17,830 people getting paid out at least $40. This massive $1,500,000 million GPP tournament had 70,588 entries and filled completely for the third time this season as the first 4 weeks there was some good amounts of overlay. While the overlay has been great for the consumer it probably hasn't been the best for FanDuel itself so seeing their big contest fill has to be a good sign for the Sunday Million moving forward. Each week FanDuel will be running a Sunday Million GPP Contest and we will break it down here at Footballguys.com and see what the keys were to having the top lineup on the week and taking home the top prize of $300,000.
Here's how Week 7 of the Sunday Million shook out.
|
DFS Screen Name | Points | Prize Money |
1st | tossboss | 205.32 | $300,000 |
2nd | terribad | 195.62 | $100,000 |
3rd | capri | 193.16 | $50,000 |
4th | littledonny | 191.72 | $30,000 |
5th | kornuts6384 | 191.34 | $20,000 |
The winner of FanDuel's Week 7 Sunday Million was tossboss who took home the $300,000 first place price with a score of 205.32. Tossboss outscored the second place team terribad by 9.70 points for a pretty sizeable victory. His team was built around an Indianapolis Colts super stack of Andrew Luck, T.Y. Hilton and Jack Doyle. The QB/WR/TE trio put up 68.92 points combined and locked in some low ownership with Luck at only 1.9%. Hilton was owned by 8.6% of the field and Doyle somewhat more popular at 13.4%. The nice things about locking in both Luck and Doyle was that those are positions that you only need to roster one player and they both were the highest scorers at their positions so it gave you an advantage over the field at the QB and TE spots.
Tossboss also had a popular stack of Jacquizz Rodgers and Mike Evans as they had a premier matchup against the San Francisco 49ers. Both players were very popular as Rodgers was only priced at $5,600 and was owned by 40.5% of the field while Evans was at 31% and was priced at $8,000. So out of the 9 possible players that you can roster tossboss had 5 players from just two teams in the Colts and Buccaneers. He made a strong stand on Melvin Gordon as he was low owned at just 4.9% and scored 3 touchdowns and 33.10 FanDuel points. Gordon had a good matchup on paper and continues to prove that he will find a way to make it to the endzone and reward his owners for it. Although both Spencer Ware and DeMarco Murray were also great plays at the RB position it was Gordon who was the top play and he came at much lower ownership.
At wide receiver along with his Evans and Hilton plays he took A.J. Green who was a very popular play at 43.0% ownership but also was the top scoring WR with 26.9 points. Paying down for Jacquizz Rodgers and Jack Doyle helped him in being able to roster three stud WR's in Green, Evans and Hilton and there really was no flaws in this team at all. Maybe the only position that he didn't hit a home run on was the kicker spot as he had Cairo Santos at $4,800 and 7% owned and was rewarded with 10.0 points. There were higher scoring kickers on the weekend but anytime you can lock in a double digit score from your kicker you have to be happy. Just like most of the other positions that tossboss rostered he also hit the perfect play at defense with the Philadelphia Eagles who were the top scoring team at their position with 24.0 points. This was a near flawless constructed roster with lots of chalky plays in Rodgers, Green, and Evans but also had a good mix of low owned players that scored the highest at their positions in Luck, Gordon, Doyle, and Eagles defense.

WHAT WORKED?
Super Stacking -- We had four out of the top ten teams consist of a super stack this week. Three teams had the stack of Andrew Luck, T.Y. Hilton and Jack Doyle and another had the stack of Jameis Winston, Jacquizz Rodgers and Mike Evans. The reason the super stack works for GPPs is because those three core players end up getting all the teams volume in touches and targets and are all in very good matchups. Looking at the Colts stack you have Luck passing for 353 yards and 3 touchdowns with 133 of those yards and a touchdown going to Hilton and 78 more yards and another touchdown going to Doyle. That is 211 of Luck's passing yards and 2 touchdowns going to two players and every time the Colts offense had the ball all three of these guys were putting up points.
Stud Wide Receivers -- Paying down for Jacquizz Rodgers at running back allowed you to have the cash to pay up for the stud wide receivers this week. A.J. Green at $8,500 was highly owned at 43% but he put up 26.90 points, Mike Evans at 31% owned scored 25.60 points at $8,000 and T.Y. Hilton at $7,800 was at 8.6% ownership and scored 22.80 points and the last big WR Julio Jones at $9,200 was at 47% and scored 21.90 points. Although all four of these WR's are highly priced and all have high ownerships, you needed to roster them this week to win the big money and the only way to do so was paying down at RB and TE.
The Chalk went off -- The cash lines were higher than normal this week and it was mainly because that all the chalky highly touted players in the industry all had good games. Everyone was on similar players this week such as Jacquizz Rodgers, DeMarco Murray, Spencer Ware, A.J. Green, Mike Evans, Julio Jones, Rob Gronkowski and Jack Doyle and they all hit big. There wasn't many bad plays when it came to the chalk this week and that is why you saw cash lines so high this week. It won't always be like that but Week 7 was one of those week's that we might look back on as the chalkiest week in the 2016 DFS season.
WHAT FAILED?
Paying down at WR -- With so many good matchups at the wide receiver position this week it didn't make much sense to pay down there as you could find value at QB, RB and TE to make the high priced WR's fit in your roster construction. If you happened to pay down at the WR position you probably struggled to cash this week as we look over the top ten teams in the Sunday Million only two teams didn't have a combination of Julio Jones, Mike Evans, T.Y. Hilton or A.J. Green as they went with Tyrell Williams and Marvin Jones.
Being Stubborn with Melvin Gordon -- We are seven games into the season and Melvin Gordon now has 10 touchdowns on the year to go along with 636 total yards. I get that he is only averaging 3.34 yards per carry but does that really matter right now? He is getting so much volume in this offense with 22.6 touches a game on average and now has 3 multi touchdown games on the year. Gordon was on seven of the top ten Sunday Million rosters this week and has been a popular play all year at the top of the leaderboard.
